Apizza Heaven now under new management as the Avano Bistro is a refreshing«new» restaurant still maintaining some of the dishes we enjoyed before. We tried it just a few days ago and were not disappointed. They’ve moved mostly away from Italian(there is now a glut of Italian/Pizza places in Sedona) and have gone toward more continental cuisine. We started with the antipasto salad with a great creamy dressing. Our entrees were the crab and shrimp ravioli and the pastry crusted ratatouille. We saw the Tutamari pass by and it looked great. They still have a good wine list and the bar. Fabulous!

If you want to know the true pie get the cheapie basic and it should stand for itself. That’s what we did very early this evening. The pie was great! I saw the ‘apizza’ in the name and was reminded of the greats in New Haven, CT where i went to college and could not resist! Although it was a little different than ‘Sally’s Apizza’ and others like Frank Pepe’s «Apizza Heaven» would hold its own without question. I’ll be back!

We ordered their fried calamari and a Hawaiian pizza. All I have to say is wow. Their calamari is covered in marinara sauce and has the perfect texture. I love that it was not super greasy either. The pizza was a mouth orgasm. The crust was my favorite. The waitress said it was the best pizza in town and I certainly don’t doubt that!

Great food, solid service. We had a Caesar salad, bruschetta, and a «Make-Your-Own» pizza(cheese, bacon, and meatball). This place is a nice little spot for some very good Italian fare.

5 stars is not enough! Went to Sedona for a few days with my family and my dad recommended that we visit Apizza Heaven, and it was a great suggestion! First, the service was amazing. Our server was a gentleman who had great energy, made great recommendations based on what we were looking for and was very friendly with out two young children. We started with the mussels, which were cooked perfectly — my husband and dad used the bread to soak up the broth, it was amazing. We also had the antipasto salad which was good. Watch those hot peppers though! We ordered a cheese pizza for the boys, and the Clams Casino Pizza for the adults, as Italians we just couldn’t pass that up, and I’m so glad we didn’t! It was terrific — they have some of the best crust I’ve ever had and everything was served piping hot and cooked to perfection. We rounded out our meal with a few orders of cannoli and spumoni(which is tough to find in AZ!). All this for under $ 200 with tax and a generous tip(including 2 kids’ drinks and 6 beers/wines for the adults), and plenty of leftovers to take with us. It was a great experience, looking forward to returning on our next trip to Sedona :)

Came here for dinner. It’s pretty hidden. Nice ambience. The patio is very nice. We got a medium shrimp florentine pizza. Nice, crispy pizza crust. It was fantastic and a huge pizza for my daughter and I. The homemade balsamic vinaigrette was great. They also brought out delicious, warm bread with a yummy garlic butter. I would definitely go back again.

We had just come back hiking in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona. We were tired, and in need if a homey and hearty meal. «Apizza Heaven» did not disappoint! We had the garden pizza and added mushrooms to it. Great tasting pizza! Wonderful bread! The service was excellent as well. The ambience was quietly beautiful, we went at 2:30 pm on a Sunday so it was very peaceful and quiet. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Sedona.

My second visit is even better than my first. Excellent wine knowledge. Delicious mussels and great personalized service with no push to get you out. I will always come back. It’s definitely not just pizza despite being voted Sedona’s best.

Our absolute favorite restaurant in Sedona! It’s hard to pick just one favorite, but we love the crispy spinach and consider the calamari number one in Arizona. The owner and staff are friendly and make you feel welcome!

This was another of Eileen’s recommendations. It was difficult for us to find. We bypassed it twice this afternoon when we were trying to scope out the menu. Heading south on W. 89 it’s on the left. The sign is a little set back from the road and the restaurant itself is set way back. Between the three of us, we found it. We walked in and were greeted warmly by the hostess. It was clear that many of the patrons were regulars who were greeted affectionately and seated at favorite tables. The walls were a warm Tuscan yellow/orange, aside from the one that was a richly vibrant red. The ceiling was white and the half wall next to us was a soft green. As we were leaving we noticed there’s a large, attractive patio that must be lovely on warm days. We were given menus and brought a basket of soft, crusty house-made bread accompanied by a small container of heavenly garlicky softened butter. I decided on a shrimp scampi served w/angel hair pasta. It came w/a house salad. Alan decided on a shrimp Florentine(large prawns, spinach, garlic, mozzarella) pizza and Jim ordered a Hawaiian pizza(pineapple, ham, red onions, bacon, mozzarella) to which he added mushrooms. Both pizzas were 12″. The guys shared a Caesar salad. My salad was a generous size and the balsamic vinaigrette was tasty. The guys were pleased w/their salad. I didn’t have a bite. The shrimp in my dish were enormous, plentiful and delicious. The pasta seemed heavier than angel hair, more like vermicelli. The white wine, garlic sauce wasn’t well blended and basically the pasta was more trouble than it was worth to eat. Alan’s pizza, on the other hand, was fabulous, w/the same shrimp and more cohesion to the flavors. The crust was perfection, thin but not too thin, sturdy enough to support the toppings and very tasty. Unquestionably we will order this when we return next time, and there will be a next time. Jim loved and finished his entire pizza. Every bit. Our waitress was adorable and fun, joking and playing w/us and other patrons. She’s been there 12 years and we look forward to seeing her when we return. We were certainly glad to have finally discovered Apizza Heaven.

We got there about 7:30pm on a week night. The place was pretty empty — a few people at the bar, and another couple at a table. We ordered gnocci and baked penne. We probably waited half an hour for the food. I understand it takes time to bake, but they also never served us bread that they were supposed to. When the gnocci showed up, the waitress finally asked us if we’d like some bread. The bread came so late that another serve thought it was for other customers who showed up much later. And then the penne took another 5 – 10 minutes. So, the gnocci was ok. Baked penne was not. When I ordered, I asked the waitress if they baked it crispy. She said they did. Well that wasn’t the case. At least they offered to throw it back in the oven for a few more minutes — which ended up being 10 – 15 minutes. At least the parmesan was actually baked properly this time. I found about 10 noodles a tad crispy. That was all. One or two of the employees were singing(not like serenading, but more joking) around, making the restaurant a playground for themselves. I was happy for them that they were having a good time, but I was disappointed for the lack of respect. Also, this meant that they left our waitress manning the restaurant front AND the diner herself, as if we didn’t have enough trouble trying to get refills already. There’s absolutely no reason for us to go back again.

A pizza heaven it is! This place is a hidden gem. It’s located away from the tourist area in a tiny plaza. The restaurant is lovely. We chose to sit outside because the weather was beautiful. The patio was nicely decorated with Christmas lights and gave a homey feeling as if you were sitting in your own backyard. We got the small garden pizza and the small traditional pizza. The pizzas were very thin which I usually don’t like, but this was a whole different story. Both of the pizzas were absolutely delicious!!! You could taste everyone of the toppings! It was garlicky but not overpowering, the sauce was fresh, the tomatoes tasted like what tomatoes are supposed to taste like, and the basil was to die for fresh! Yum! It was definitely one of the best pizzerias I have been to! The 5 star review was solely based on the pizzas. The service could be better though and that’s where I would have given them less stars but I was too busy enjoying all the deliciousness the pizzas had to offer to notice anything else.

Clueless waiter, rude waitress, wrong orders, no compensation for screw-ups, slow service and the drinks were mediocre at best. The only redeeming feature was the pizza itself which was fine. I’ll never go back.

Once again back to this establishment with friends to enjoy antipasto, beer and pizza… Mine being with a gluten-free crust. Enjoyed outdoor seating this evening.

We always visit Apizza Heaven during Thanksgiving Week when my brother and sister in law visit. They love this place and we always have a very enjoyable dining experience there, This past TG week visit came on the Friday after. The food and service are always dependable and delicious. As the night wore on, Dave the chef owner came out to greet us and eventually pulled a chair to chat for a while. He’s a delightful, hard working restauranteur originally from Connecticut and has been in Sedona now for quite some time. Eating here is more like visiting Dave at his house than eating at a restaurant. He will prepare just about anything you want if you take the time to ask although pretty much anything Italian you could desire, and then some, is already on the menu The prices here are typically higher than you’ll find at most Italian eateries but keep in mind this is Sedona where all commercial leases are sky high. Ever notice how few franchises are in town? They can’t do business because it doesn’t pencil out to the company pro forma. P. S. I was surprised and saddened to see that APH has closed.

Pizza(take-out) Pay-per-view(Girl w/the Dragon Tattoo) Justin(cab) = Perfection I can’t speak for the pasta but we enjoyed the pizza. The cannolis are okay. It’s a pizza place in Sedona… I don’t know what more to write about the topic.

Came here after a recommendation from the nice folks at Sedona Olive Oil Company. We were starving and not sure where to go in town. We figured pizza would be easy since that is always an option for us vegetarians. The plan was to get a pizza to go and head back to the hotel since we were pretty beat up from the day. We get inside and find out that it is a 35 minute wait for food. *Cue silent sobbing from my belly* At this point we are just too tired and hungry to think about driving around aimlessly trying to find another veg-friendly place that isn’t crazy expensive. So we grabbed a seat at the bar. Our waitress was friendly and took good care of us. I ordered a glass of wine and decided that we would just eat at the restaurant and be done with it. Since I was so hungry I started to peruse the appetizers but nothing was really jumping out at me. I didn’t really feel like spending $ 8 on an appetizer so I just went with the bread. I really think it’s pretty outrageous for an Italian joint to charge for bread and butter(just like a Mexican place should never charge for chips and salsa) but I was hungry and that was the cheapest thing I could get. The bread was $ 2 and was supposed to come with«whipped garlic butter.» It just tasted like regular butter to me. But maybe I was just that tired. We ordered the Garden Pizza in a medium to share. The medium was more than enough for the two of us and we both thought it was really good. Lots of onion and tomato and a good bit of basil. It said there was garlic on it but I didn’t really notice a lot(maybe I have a high garlic tolerance??). I think what could have made this pizza a little better would have been some roasted garlic cloves. The restaurant is small and gets really crowded when full. The bar area is tiny. It appears as though there is lots of room for outdoor seating when the weather is right, but the patio was closed when we were there. In all, I think this is a nice little place for dinner. It has a homey atmosphere and the food was good. I just think everything was overpriced. $ 2 for bread and $ 22 for a medium pizza is crazy to me. Would think twice about coming back the next time I was in town.

Review on service and appetizers alone. But by the looks of it, if you’re looking for good pizza this may be your place! It’s off the beaten path. You’ll have to look for a sign and then turn down an alley but from the smell of the nearby tables and the taste of our incredibly flavorful appetizers, I highly suggest you give this place a shot. We actually had the nerve to walk in New Years Eve at about 9:30p.m. or so but they found a way to accommodate us regardless, which scored serious points. We sat at a table next to the bar and noticed a high concentrate of locals, which is normal for Sedona, but nonetheless, our sweet little bartender was on the ball with both food and drink. I’m looking forward to our next visit to Sedona so we can come back and enjoy one of their incredible looking pies! P. S. Heard their white sauce pizza is spectacular!
