Sam’s Southern Eatery

This place is OK. I got the Fried Shrimp Po’Boy and it could’ve used more flavor, but was good. The Mac and cheese was par, at best. I’ll give this place another shot to try the catfish.

The woman who is a manager wears a rag around her head and she is Very, very unprofessional. A boy that looked like he was 12, rang us up at the register. 3 men were sitting inside eating what they ordered here and we waited on my daughters food to go. However, the men got up to leave and got in their truck & the woman chased down the guys & told them they didn’t pay for their drinks & made them come back in to pay. The guy told her he thought the drink came with the food & she said no. She charged them $ 5.38 for the 3 very small drinks they had. She was laughing and told the little boy «yeah I charge them $ 6.00 for their drinks, you bet». Why didn’t she tell them while they sat there eating instead of when they were climbing into their truck! She and the boy were laughing from the time my daughter paid for her food until we left. The manager told the little boy that someone had called earlier asking about employment & she told them they weren’t hiring & that the person on the phone wanted to talk to a manager & she told them she was the manager & that they were not hiring & nobody is taking her job! Then she told the cook through the small window– «that’s probably why you’re broke all of the time» — and threw a plastic
bag through the window. It sounded as if she was referencing the drinks not being paid for earlier buy the 3 men. I am not sure. But her and the little boy stayed laughing and cutting up even as we walked out the door. Take this review serious. This location is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! Do NOT stop here!!! I would not give ANY stars for this place but UNFORTUNATELY,
you have to put one on here! :(My daughter has eaten at other Sam’s location and never had anything like this happen before. She loves the Jewella Ave. and Barksdale Blvd. locations the best!

This place does not need my business but they treat every customer like it’s their only one. They are always packed, and it’s not just because of their amazing food. They have great customer service. When they got my order wrong they (unlike most places I’ve come across in Louisana) corrected my order with a smile and without grief. Delicious food and warm customer service. My seafood place spot in all of Shreveport!

I’m a HUGE Sam’s fan. I really am. I always have been. That being said, this has GOT to be the dirtiest, nastiest, scariest, grossest, most grotesque location in the entire growing franchise! Now, I believe that most of this is due to the fact that this location shares space with an Exxon gas station (blech!) I have always had serious reservations about eating at gas station/​truckstops that share intimate space with a food franchise of some sort. It just grosses me out. It probably has to do with my whole restaurant/​restroom belief system that I have shared here on Unilocal before. And that is, if the restrooms are filthy in a restaurant, then the whole restaurant is probably contaminated. And well, this being a gas station… you can imagine. So. Ick. But, this is the closest Sam’s to my new domicile now, so I thought I’d forego my apprehensions and prejudices, if just for halftime of the LSU-​UA-​Birmingham game. I wanted a fried shrimp po boy badly! I ordered one from here, on the spot, waited about 20 minutes… they were pretty busy, got it and made it back home for the first snap of the 2^nd half. My po boy was actually quite delicious and it upheld the standards that I have come to expect from all Sam’s…but I will not return to this filthy location at the hectic intersection of Youree and Bert Kouns. It just grosses me out too much. No. Next time, I will hit the much, much cleaner Barksdale Blvd-​non gas station location in Bossier City.

I think they recognize my voice when I call in orders now so I guess that means I like the food.

The food here is delicious! The prices are very reasonable and you are guaranteed to get a HUGE portion of whatever you ordered. My husband and I ordered 6 grilled catfish plus two sides, and it was enough to feed both of us AND STILL have plenty to take home. This particular branch is located inside a gas station, which is strange, but I think it is meant for people in a hurry and looking to take some great food home. I honestly can’t wait to try their other menu items as well as the other locations.
I’m sold!
