Over the years we have made Chop our special occasion restaurant and have never been disappointed. The attention to detail is awesome. From the warm welcome when you arrive to the food served everything is amazing. Corina was our waitress on Saturday and took the time to talk about specials and wine suggestions. She was awesome! The food… sigh. was delicious. The Escargot was perfect. The steak was cooked perfectly. This is a must go while you are in Door County. The deserts are made by Grandma. The carrot cake is so good. They now have 3 restaurants in Door County so they must be doing something right!

Very compact restaurant that is tucked behind a Piggly Wiggly. It’s pretty easy to miss. I don’t know what it used to be but it is pretty small. There’s a tiny bar right next to the entrance. People wait there until their table is ready. It probably would only allow 4 people to use the bar comfortably. I went with a large party and I was impressed with how efficiently the staff handled us. Our orders were brought out at the same time which is quite a feat with a large party and such a small kitchen. Chop is fine dining so I was surprised when we were given a wine list that had a huge chunk missing from it. That wouldn’t surprise me at Olive Garden but it detracted from a supposed fine dining experience at Chop. I was surprised at how limited their beer/cocktail selection was but that could be because of space. To begin the meal, we were served popovers with sweetened butter. I enjoyed mine but I can see how other reviewers just wanted plain ol’ bread and butter. I chose a mushroom bisque instead a house salad. The soup was very flavorful and I was glad I chose it although the salads looked very good as well. I ordered a 6 oz filet with a plain butter topping. The other options were bearnaise, Cajun, bacon bleu cheese or a Chop’s house topping. I should have asked what the Chop’s house was but I did enjoy the butter. Because hello, it’s butter. My filet was perfectly medium as I requested. The mashed baby reds were very tasty. My only complaint about my entrée is that it disappeared so fast.

We were here in mid April on a Wednesday night. Surf and turf was the special and it was wonderful. The warm popover at the beginning was a great touch. Good wine selection, cozy atmosphere. I’d recommend reservations, this is the quiet time of year in Door County and it filled up quickly.

The boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night and we couldn’t get a reservation until 9. It’s off-season, and a lot of places are closed until May, so there weren’t that many options to choose from. We didn’t get seated until 9:20, but there’s a mini bar where you’re able to wait. I didn’t realize how small the place is! Adam was our server, and he was great with explaining the selections on the menu and providing us with what we needed. I got the shrimp which wasn’t anything special, but the boyfriend really enjoyed his New York Strip Steak. We also had the House Salad and shared the ice cream sundae, which also wasn’t anything special but still tasty!

Was out first time at Chop and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very attentive and knowledgable of all cuisine. I ordered surf and turf with lobster, I was hesitant but was very satisfied with my choice. My husband had the New York strip with crab and again very good choice. We followed dinner with carrot cake, delicious! The only downfall is the lack of elbow room.

The food was good, but a little pricey. Small restaurant that got busy. With that being said we had no issues with the wait time for food. Staff seemed friendly.

We’ve been coming to Door County for over 20 years and this is one of our new favorites. We happened to arrive just before 5:30 and were able to enjoy the 3-course $ 19.95 dinner special, which was a salad, entrée’, and dessert. There were a variety of choices for each course, and all were very fresh and flavorful. The soup had a nice blend of spices, but was not too spicy. The salad was fresh, with a nice variety of greens, and flavorful toppings. Salmon was prepared just as it should be — nice and hot, but still pink and flaky, and the pork chop was meaty and juicy. Carrot cake for dessert was excellent as well. Decent wine selection and very efficient and prompt service. We sat on the enclosed porch on a windy night, and the heaters were ample to keep things warm. On the Friday night we were there we may have lucked out a bit to get a table right away as we didn’t have a reservation and they were full when we arrived, and full when we left.

The service was great. Our waitress had a smile on her face the whole time. I ordered the surf n turf: petite filet with lobster! It was phenomenal. I literally could cut my steak with my fork. Everything was great. I HIGHLY recommend coming here. However, make a reservation because although we were seated immediately, there are a lot of people here.

This is my first 5-star review. I am not that easy to please, but this was excellent. The place is small and crowded, and understandably so with it being so good. Definitely make reservations. Excellent escargot, very good beef wellington, best crème brûlée ever, and a bananas foster cheesecake that was amazing. The service was excellent — our waitress was attentive without being annoying, which can be more of an art than a science. One of the best dining experiences ever.

Quality meal. Strak tartare, ny strip, shrimp, asparagus soup all excellent. Service was a bit slow at first but then very attentive. Seating somewhat cramped but nice ambiance

We chose chop after talking with others who had visited there. We were not disappointed. I had the surf and turf special. My lobster was tender and cooked perfect. The small strip steak that came with it was amazing… Great flavor. My son ordered the large strip steak veggies. He is still talking about that steak three days later. My husband ordered the rib eye… he was raving about it as well. We have traveled all over and lived in Japan for five years so I do not hand out reviews lightly. I’ve got to say we were over the top pleased with Chop. Make a reservation and go enjoy one of the best restaurants in the Door.

My boyfriend and I were extremely disappointed by this place. This was our first time visiting Door County and after reading all of the great reviews for Chop we decided to splurge on a nice dinner. We both ordered $ 408oz filet mignon cooked medium and received steaks that were so charred we couldn’t taste anything except for burnt crisp. Definitely NOT worth the money we paid. To make matters worse their oven was broken that night so half of the menu was unavailable.

Arrived without a reservation but the owner Patsy was very helpful and fit us in. She then talked with us while we waited and explained how the whole family works there. Once we were seated the wait staff was great. Went on a Monday and got the surf and turf special, what a great deal. The salads were excellent, the steak was cooked exactly as ordered and the lobster was delicious. Both potato options were amazing too. Beer and wine prices were very reasonable with all but 2 beers being from Wisconsin breweries. This will be a stop for us every time we come to the area! Definitely head to open table or call for a reservation. We got lucky but saw several others turned away. The building is not too big, so tables are fairly close. However, they make it work well. Thanks Patsy for allowing us to spend our honeymoon dinner with you guys!

Wow! What an amazing steakhouse!!! I hope they expand to a larger space! So impressed with our main courses. I got the new your strip. 16 oz. and my husband got the crispy duck. Both were absolutely amazing. For dessert we both got the floured chocolate torte. Hands down the best chocolate torte I’ve ever had. Tasted like fudge!

For our last night in Door County, my husband and I went to Chop in Sister Bay. We were originally going to go on Saturday, but they were booked until pretty late. So make sure to get your reservation in a day or two advance if you are planning on visiting on the weekend!(though this is true for a quite a few places in Door County in the summer). I had a Moscato and my husband had a Bell’s Three-Hearted Ale. They seemed to have a decent beer/wine selection, though I would have appreciated some more sweet and local wines. The food was AMAZING. I veered away from a steak and got the Burgundy Beef and my husband got the surf and turf with a NY Strip and lobster. The burgundy beef had a wonderful red wine sauce and the smashed potatoes were great. My husband’s steak was a little overdone(he had requested medium rare), but still good. Even though I was pretty stuffed, we had desert(because it was our last night on vacation). I had the crème brûlée, which was good but not the best I’ve ever had by any means. My husband had an irish coffee which he enjoyed. The service was good. Our waitress was very attentive. No complaints.

Good meal, but timing was off. Went on a Wednesday, and they had a date night special. We started with escargot and tartare. Both were tasty, but the beef was a stand out. Second course was a delicious chop salad, one of the best I’ve had. The ratio of toppings and greens was perfection. My husband tried the asparagus bisque which he said was just ok. We both had the NY strips which were slightly overcooked, still very flavorful and juicy, but mid-well rather than medium/mid-rare. The chocolate torte was very decadent, and beautifully presented. A solid meal. My only gripe was timing. Our salads came while we were halfway through apps, and coffee came after dessert had been finished. Small tweaks would have made a good meal exemplary!

With all the great reviews, I was expecting something a bit more impressive. Very small dining quarters inside and they put us right next to the front door… literally. We did have a group of 8 so maybe they just can’t accommodate big groups. I had steak Oscar. It was a bit over cooked. I understand, asking for a steak medium well is difficult, but I have gotten plenty of fantastic steaks ordered that way other places. My husband got steak Wellington. I think his expectations were too high because I have made Wellington at home before. To sum it up, it was a piece of steak with a big puff pastry on top and underwhelming. The complimentary bread was also not my type of bread, it was some puff biscuit/bread. Definitely won’t be coming back and looking forward to trying other places in the area in the future.

As a former vegetarian, I’ve only ordered two steaks off a menu in my lifetime — and it’ll be hard to top the filet mignon I had at Chop last night. The steak was delicious — tender, moist, and the bearnaise butter was a great addition. The summer salad was a perfect complement to the steak, and I rounded out the evening with the crème brûlée. The hostess was kind and gracious, and our waiter attentive and helpful. The owner stopped by our table at one point to ask how our meal was, and I appreciated that. It’s off the beaten path — you’ll need to look for the restaurant, as it’s a bit tucked away — but it’s a gem. Go for it — you won’t be disappointed!

The steak at Chop is great! I split a NY strip and rib eye. The special sauce of the night(peppercorn mushroom) was very tasty, even though I’m not a huge mushroom fan. If you are looking for any deals, there is a $ 203-course meal if you go between 5:00 — 5:30pm Thr-Sat or anytime Sunday night. The dining room is small, so make a reservation and expect to sit close to other tables. It’s totally worth it if you love steak!

My wife and I travel all over the United States and know a thing about good food. We couldn’t have been more impressed this evening! Literally, I am typing this as soon as we arrived home because I don’t want to spoil a great review. Unbelievable food! My wife had a NY Strip steak(not her favorite cut) and honestly thought it was the best she has ever had. Second, I enjoyed the 12oz pork chop and couldn’t be more impressed. It was unbelievably good. Cooked to perfection with apple slices and a sweet glaze. WOW! The dessert also did not disappoint with a great carrot cake(fluffy and rich all together) and my wife had the salty caramel sundae, which was simply awesome. The location is a bit unusual and not easy to find, but well worth the effort to venture in. Small place so make sure to make reservations. It was packed! We will certainly be back…
