One of the best sushi places in Suffolk. It’s always crowded. Located in the heart of Smithtown you have many places to eat at but aji is by far the best sushi in town. The décor inside is of a high end restaurant. The staff is nice and doesn’t keep nagging you. Their house choclate desert is by far the best!

Trendy and modern? Definitely. Spacious? Absolutely! Good service? So-so. Top notch sushi/sashimi? Eh. Good value? No way! What can I say, I think Aji is an example of a restaurant where the trendiness precedes its food. Inside is dimly lit with high ceilings and modern décor that’s bordering on tacky. The service was friendly but quite slow and the dishes slowly trickled out to the point that I was hoping not to get the last couple of rolls because I was ready to leave and pick up a few slices of pizza. Here’s what we sampled — sashimi dinner, spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon crunch roll, eel cucumber roll, and dancing dragon roll. Sashimi slices were thinly cut and beautifully presented. Presentation is nice but I much rather have slices of fresh fish double the thickness thrown on a plate. One of my pet peeves is that the spicy fish rolls taste like bland mush and theirs is the perfect example of it. You can’t tell how fresh or what type of fish was all mushed up. Anyway, if all you’re looking for is a trendy place that serves mediocre sushi at best, then give it a try.

Aji 53 is not your typical Japanese restaurant. It’s more trendy, fun and high energy. The music is loud, the atmosphere is cool and the drinks are good. They have a great cocktail menu, my favorite is the Dragon Punch. The food is a mix of your typical Japanese offerings and more unique offerings. My favorite salad is the warm wild mushroom salad which includes a variety of mushrooms and a truffle dressing. The dressing is nicely balanced and not overpowering with the truffle flavor. The vegetable tempura was good except a bit on the oily side. Rolls are good but I am vegan so I can only comment on the veggie rolls. My other dining companions enjoyed their sushi though. The night ended with a free round of sake bombs which was fun and unexpected. Service was not bad but a little all over the place. All in all, a great night out!

RIght in the heart of Smithtown you can get a lot of errands done and sit down for a quick bite. You can’t go wrong with this solid sushi joint. The lunch special is 6 pieces per roll, not the usual 8 so do not get overly excited if you order 10 rolls thinking they are the regular size. The Lunch Special is Mon — Fri 11am — 3pm 3 rolls for $ 11 with soup or salad, you cannot beat that for quality sushi. If you are a sushi advocate and want to expand your options there is also Tomo within walking distance next to Napper Tandys on main street, you cannot miss it.

My favorite sushi spot in LI! All of the signature rolls are delish but my all time favorite is the mango madness! Everything about this place is fantastic– the service, the ambiance, and the food. Definitely a must go!

Today was a super winner. I ordered the«Maki B» platter and am always picky about eel. It was surprisingly my favorite roll on the plate, on top of the rolls I usually call my favorites. Not too much for the fried food here… last time I bought a bento box, I wasn’t happy with the soaked texture and grease taste overpowering the foods themselves. Still, the salad is fresh and tasteful and I am leaving here with a smile!

The food here is certainly better than the location, but don’t let the outside fool you ! Inside it’s a cool and trendy place with very good food. The rock shrimp tempura is great — the rolls are creative and the Delight roll with Banana is amazing. The servers are good and attentive although some do struggle a little with English. Been here probably 6 times and always enjoyed the ambiance and food.

First served for the day we absolutely loved it, they brought out free edamame which my gf can’t really be eating, yet she devoured the bowl(she loves the stuff but for specific health reasons it’s really not good for her) loved it. The rolls were great and felt more substantial than aji bayshore Service was great and that’s that.

Food is just ehhhhh. I feel like Unilocal makes the food sound so good but when you go there it’s just over priced and nothing special. I got a lunch special here a few months ago and it was not bad(standard price). Just got a tuna tartar which was vey overpriced for the little amount of tuna they give with some chips on the side. American Dream roll was good. Spicy mayo and eel sauce is a dollar each compared to the normal 50 cents every where else. Staff is not so friendly, kinda rude when you ask questions and don’t want to help out. Overall, probably won’t go back, not worth it with all the better sushi so close around

Aji 53 is outstanding! I was so happy they decided to come to Smithtown! I have always been a fan of the Bay Shore location. I don’t believe you can find fresher sushi anywhere around. I look forward to my usual Sunday happy hour(at the bar) where their specialty cocktails are heavily reduced *(We’ll Always Have Paris)* — a LUSHious combination of Grey Goose, Chambord, fruit juice, and champagne. Specialty rolls and select appetizer are also half priced. A great deal! Service here is as always impeccable. From entry to exit, you are treated to real individualized service — something that is rare these days! I significantly appreciate the complementary edammame on my last visit. Thanks guys! The décor is absolutely stunningly modern, which in combination of the exquisitely presents sushi dishes, makes for a 4-D experience in living art. Do yourself a huge favor and visit Ali 53 for an extraordinary experience in fine sushi dining. You’re senses will thank you for it!
