What an experience! We were greeted with wine as soon as we opened our car door(we had a driver). Got a tour of the winery and then we headed down to the caves for our wine tasting. All the wines were great and we really enjoyed the education and the fine details. Our guide had us try wines different ways and also kept the olive oil pouring(which is fantastic). We were so happy to find this place! Reasonably priced and bourgeois views.

My boyfriend and a buddy of ours and I went to Petroni last weekend for my boyfriend’s birthday and had one of the best days ever! Background– my boyfriend’s family goes way back with the Petroni family from his grandpa and the late Lorenzo being buddies decades ago to his dad working at Lorenzo’s son Peter’s wonderful restaurant in San Francisco(North Beach Restaurant– best fine Italian dining in the city) so we knew we had to visit the family winery as well. A bit hard to find, Petroni is situated off a bumpy, windy, tree-lined road up into the hills of Sonoma atop a hill surrounded by lush valley and vineyards they own. It was amazingly green and the view was spectacular. Photos would not do it justice. Lorenzo’s family has a home on the property with a pool and beautiful grounds with roses and other flowers. You do need a reservation, and we were a bit early but greeted with glasses of sauvignon blanc to sip while we waited for our appointment time. We found some wooden chairs overlooking the valley and made ourselves comfortable. Once it was our time, we entered the wine cave and were in awe. The temperature in there felt amazing and it was all lit up with sconces and candles with some feel-good music playing in the background. We began our tour with Ryan who showed us the grounds, and took his time with us, not making us feel rushed. We enjoyed having him as a host and getting to know the grounds. We spent the majority of the time in the cave at a private table, sampling different wines that we all loved, and enjoying each other’s company. It was fun to see the area where the wine is made. And what a gorgeous place to work! Ryan, our host, gave us a wonderful experience that is definitely worth mentioning– from his warm and funny personality to his knowledge of the wines and the estate, he proved to be the perfect host to tie together our day. He showed us a fun aerating trick for the wine and even let me take home a huge lemon from a tree on the property that I couldn’t stop sniffing haha. He was the best host and a major asset to Petroni. We joined the wine club so we will be back very soon and we can’t wait to see Ryan and Lorenzo’s wife Maria(wonderful spunky woman who was an absolute pleasure to chat with). I recommend visiting Petroni if you are in the Sonoma area and want to have a wonderful day tasting amazing wines, meeting good people and having a true Sonoma wine country experience.

My wife & I have been club members here for several years now, and our visits to the winery just keep getting better. We love all their wines: sauvignon blanc, chard., as well as all the reds; the rose, a bit less so. The staff have always been the very model of professionalism and courtesy, and members of the Petroni family are frequently there to greet us. If you can tell the difference between good wine swill, you owe it to yourself to visit Petroni. If you can’t, go anyway. You’ll learn.

Petroni Vineyards was my second vineyard I visited in Napa and I was so happy we found this gem. The drive(one lane road) is absolutely stunning and once you get to the vineyard the scenery is amazing, breathtaking! I was in town from Texas and this place is truly spectacular! The winding road is so quaint and helps set the mood for the vineyard. I was not sure what to expect since this was my first wine tour and I was pleasantly surprised. Scott met us outside with a glass of wine and our tour began. He is very knowledgeable about the wines and the history of the caves; he is also very personable and sat down with us and talked to us not at us. He did not rush us and if you are a novice like me, he will take the time to explain the difference in soil, grapes, how the barrels are prepared and what regions they come from(Europe or the US) . Scott really helped me understand wine, appreciate all of the different tastes he was pouring which helped me gain a better understanding of the different smells, tanins and spices which all make up the wine. I truly enjoyed it — so much so I became a member and looking forward to my wine deliveries in the new year!

I visited Petroni Vineyards for the first time last night as a guest at their holiday party. It’s impossible to know where to begin with the accolades, but this is a winery, so let’s start there. Not only were the varietals served all outstanding, but even the young barrel wine we tried was fabulous. Their wine is delicious! Many wines tend to give me a headache later and although I consumed my fair share, there was none of that. Kudos also to a top notch staff. The hospitality, professionalism, and quality of the experience night was above reproach from beginning to end, and the food and music was every bit as impressive. After spending nine weeks in Italy recently, I truly felt like I back in Tuscany last night… and here they are, right in my hometown. This place is a treasure.

I’m sorry to start this review on a negative but I cannot help it. I went to this vinery for a few good wines I thought it carried. It does, although I ended up leaving not buying a single one due to the extreme rudeness of the owners’ son towards my party and me. At one point during the tasting, a personal conversation was interrupted by this individual with him being upset that certain words were being used in «his cave».(His quote). This was intrusive and out of line. Out private conversation was quiet enough that other members of our party weren’t even aware of it. Conversation was not about wine, the individual or anything possibly related to him. Needless to say, we ended up leaving, though another member of staff(I believe Ryan) was very apologetic.

Inspiring Landscape Produces Exceptional Wine SITREP The Petroni Vineyard is at the end of a 2 mile trek up a windy, fun 15MPH little road(barely more than a path) and sits atop a beautiful Sonoma Mountain Top. It is well worth the drive to visit! THESETUP Petroni features a gorgeous mountain top winery, surrounded by valleys of vineyards on every side that are actually harvested, FORTHEIRWINES! None of this shipping in the majority of their product from outside the area — it’s all locally-resourced, and the best Farm-To-Fork example you can find in Wine production. THECAVES You come for the vineyards, but you stay for the CAVES! Over 150,000 square feet of cave tunnels, for both the storage of the wine barrels, as well as for their elegant tasting spaces. THEWINES There are so many delicious varietals. I loved the Syrah and their Rossi(which is 75% Syrah). Their Chardonnay and their Cabernet Sauvignan were absolutely devine. But I found their 2008 Rosso di Sonoma to be my favorite — a delicious Rose with fruity notes(I detected berry) & a refreshing choice for my palate after cheese and Thai chili nuts throughout my day! THELOWDOWN A great way to spend a day, enjoying wine in the Sonoma Valley.

I visited Petroni as part of a Unilocal sneak peak tour and tasting. Thank you to our North Bay CM Kevin B. for setting up another delightful Flight Club event! Ryan from Petroni greeted us as we drove up into the gated and private entrance. He was very friendly and eager to share everything he could about what we were going to experience. What a gracious host he was! The newly built wine caves were quite amazing. Very large and spacious and several private tasting areas set up throughout the caves. Ryan started with the Sauvignon Blanc, which I found to be bright and crisp. The Chardonnay was one of my faves as well as it was done in stainless steel with absolutely no malolactic or buttery undertones! Many of the Unilocalers liked the heavier Italian style red varietals made by Petroni. It was good to know that they have a wine for everyone’s tastes. This winery is located off the beaten path, about a mile up a narrow .road. Tours and tastings are by appointment only so be sure to call ahead. Many thanks to the Petroni staff for making this private tour one to remember and to share with others!

Petroni Vineyards is awe-inspiring indeed. We brought the sunshine out as we arrived onto this beautiful Estate, a total gem nestled in the hillside. Many of us missed the windy road leading up to this vast piece of land. Captivating views once you make it up there. As we entered the cave, we were greeted by a table full of delicious«Hallowine» treats thanks to our exceptional North Bay CM Kevin B. Our docent Ryan opened up a bottle of Chardonnay, as others were already sipping on the Sauvignon Blanc. He lead us on a special tour and generously poured Rosato, Rosso di Sonoma(nice red blend of Cab, Sangiovese & Syrah), and more Chardonnay. He lead us back to the main tables, as he poured their classic 2009 Estate Cab, which paired nicely with their olive oil and bread. Although, I was daydreaming of how well this bottle will pair with Filet mignon! Grazie! to Petroni, Kevin, Ryan, William, and Brandon for a memorable experience in the heart of Sonoma; this is why we live in California. Loving every moment ~ cheers to all. This is such a beautiful and amazing property, tucked away in the back hills of Sonoma, if you pass the Italian and American flag, you’ve gone too far(GPS will take you about 200 yards past the entrance). Make sure to get reservations and once you do bring friends and enjoy the amazing and tasty wines on offer. I was part of a Unilocal group coming through and we were served the Sauvignon Blanc then the Chardonnay. I have to admit, I used to be a huge fan of whites, then moved to reds(seems the right path…), I remember why I lovedddddd Sauvignon Blanc’s… it was light, sweet, and fruity, such a great start to the tour and day. Then came the chardonnay, which I am usually not much of a fan, and this was soon much better than the Sauvignon blanc, extremely light on the tongue, no bitterness, and a hint of sweetness, but a beautiful aroma as you bring the glass up… Damn, they do it right here! Come on up, make the reservation and enjoy the beautiful countryside!

We had a great time at Petroni Vineyards in their beautiful cave with our host Ryan. My favorite wines were the Poggio Alla Pieta Sangiovese(2008) and the Estate Cab(2009). They also had a lovely Rosso di Sonoma, a red blend of 75% Syrah, 20% Sangiovese and 5% cab. A group favorite was their Rosato di Sonoma, a rose of Sangiovese, cab and syrah. I also enjoyed the Sav Blanc(A perfect start). They are about a mile or so up a one lane road, but once you are there it feels like you are on top of the world(maybe in Italy?). You can call to reserve a tasting with numerous areas in the caves available for small to large groups. It is a pretty elegant cave and a beautiful spot.

Came here today for a Unilocal wine tasting.(Thank you, Kevin) Wonderful experience in their gorgeous caves. Petroni Vinetard Sauvignon Blanc may be my favorite ever-brought home 2 bottles. It’s nice and green apple, citrus-y crisp. Also loved their olive oil. It had a dry, fruity aspect and would be marvelous over good vanilla ice cream. Ryan and Mike ?, who led the tour, are both very genial and knowledgeable about the area, the wines, and the olive oil. I would recommend adding this to a tour itinerary, but have a designated driver because single, roughly paved Cavedale Road is quite the beast.

This place is a little off the beaten path and is well worth the discovery. They have an aweosme underground«cave» that stores their barrels of wine and that is where I did the tasting. I dont think there was one variety that I did not like and the atmosphere is freaking awesome! Definitely loved going here and recommend to anyone who is looking for a cool and unique vineyard to visit.

Tasted 5 of the wines @ a Unilocal event. We all sat deep down a tunnel in the caves. Room is not too cold and the air is fresh. Great folks gave us the history of the Petroni winery and the facts about the wines. Kudos to Ryan for his super hosting. Call me a peasant as the $ 14 rose’ is my favorite Petroni wine. It’s an enjoyable quaffer with a european flair. Other folks in our group liked the bolder reds(Sangiovese, Cabernet). The reds are higher priced. $ 40 to $ 70. Appointment required.

Wonderful views, great service, and exceptionally good wine. Labor day 2014 was our first visit here. We didn’t have an appointment, but we got lucky and were still allowed in for a tasting. This was the only wine tasting experience where we loved every single wine we tasted. My wife and I loved it so much that Petroni became the first wine-club we’ve ever joined.

Blown away again. My husband and I have been wine club members since our first visit here a year ago. They have the best Sauvignon blanc I’ve tasted. On our last visit, I was truly impressed by the quality of the tasting experience, the wide range of available wines, their dedication to quality(they allow their reds to age much longer in bottle to make sure the customer is tasting the highest quality product), and the new cave that is shortly opening! We enjoyed each wine so much that we keep increasing the size of our wine club shipment to incorporate all the different wines. It sounds like the cave is going to be the largest in the Napa /Sonoma area. I do hope that Petroni continues to make this a very friendly experience and it doesn’t end up being a large-production Sonoma tourist attraction!

We had a great tasting appointment up at Petroni. They have a great view of the valley and backwoods of Cavedale Rd. They are putting in a cave on the property which will be exciting to see when it’s done. They are also opening a tasting room in town, so they have a lot going on. I ended up buying 6 bottles of wine, which waived the $ 25 per person tasting fees. It seemed worth it to me since some of the Rose’ and white wines were reasonably priced. Everything we tasted was very nice.
