If you are looking for an amazing and unique pizza, this place is great! The crust and sauce compliment each other fantastically. If you have the opportunity to dine in, do. The atmosphere is awesome. Fair warning, there is another Barnabys location in Mishawaka, the quality there isn’t quite as good. I found out the(2) locations are operated by different owners. Stick to the Jefferson Rd. location!

Been going here every year or so since the 1970s. Yeah, its dark, its a bit pricey for what you get, but, hey, they serve beer and its open on Sundays. Whattdayawant!!!

Barnaby’s was a let down for me. We got a sausage, mushroom and green pepper pizza which I did not like at all. The crust was over baked on the bottom and very yeasty. The sauce was way too runny and bland. The toppings were generously packed on but the pieces of sausage were huge and overwhelming. I honestly think Domino’s pizza would’ve been better, and cheaper. If you want a nice local relatively inexpensive pizza place, Rocco’s has my vote. That being said, the service here was very good and I liked the low-key almost bar-like atmosphere. Still, I will not be returning next time my pizza cravings hit.

Good pizza, and nicely priced. Crust is yeasty, sausage has lots of fennel. Not my favorite pizza in town but certainly second place. They have«sort of» remodeled the inside recently, although the tiny booths are still there. The salad bar has disappeared, which is ok because it was never that fresh to begin with. If youre staying downtown and youre looking for some pizza, this is probably your best and closest choice.

Barnaby’s has some superlative, kickass pizza; we hit this place up weekly when the craving for that glorious ground beef topping hits. They just toss big hunks of hamburger all up on that pie and baby, you can’t handle how delicious it is! The crust is good, the cook quality is consistent, and they aren’t cheap with the ingredients. It is true that the place is dated. And dark. It is also true that the ordering and obtaining of your meal takes some getting used to, and nobody here is lying when they say that after high school sports events the place is just a madhouse and waits are unbearable and the quality of service declines. However, that the pizza is so fucking awesome that none of that shit matters. We always order carry-out on account of the idiosyncrasies of dining in, and are never let down by the quality and taste of our pies. When they say«15 minutes», your pizza is ready in 15; when they say 40, it’s 40; I’ve never gotten home and opened the box to find a cold pizza. If these guys delivered, it would be 5 stars all day. Avoid the sandwich side.

Best pizza ever, I crave it way too often. With their crisp cornmeal crust they put a unique style on good solid Americanized pizza. Their veggie pizza is personally my favorite and their sausage pizza is also very tasty. I can go on for days raving about Barnaby’s but I’ll stop now.

The pizza is always excellent, and the staff was friendly. No better place in South Bend for pizza.

I really don’t know what I can say about this place that hasn’t been said. This place is legendary in South Bend and probably the best in the area. I’ve been coming here since I was a probably a new born and I was basically raised on this pizza. I feel like I didn’t appreciate it back then like I do now. The crust has great flavor and the sauce is awesome. Call me crazy but those two things are important when it comes to pizza. I usually just get pepperoni but the sausage is worth a taste too. If you want to get unhealthy and like appetizers, try the bread sticks. They deep fry them and they smell like an elephant ear. As far as the atmosphere goes, I thought it was weird when I was younger how dark it is in the place but I’ve grown accustomed to it. This place is a South Bend staple. One more thing, I recommend this one and NOT the Grape Road one. I hear they have different owners and it’s just not the same.

Good pizza, but not worthy of price. This place has the feel of ordering from the«soup nazi.» They herd you thru like cattle and the staff aren’t particularly friendly. Ambience is loud kids and dark(not dim) lighting.

The crust is what makes it happen here, and if it’s not your thing, then so be it. However, in my opinion, this is one of the top 3 pizzas I’ve ever had. I grew up in the area, and now make it a point to find time for Barnaby’s whenever I am back in town. The ordering system is a little funky, and you kind of have to know what is going on, but it’s just part of the experience.

This place is not good for kids, the food is not special, and the cashier couldn’t bother to tell us it was going to be 40 minutes for pizza. Which is not good when you have toddlers. Our fries were cold by the time we got our burgers. Worst experience ever. I will never return.

I am mixing 2 visits into 1. First is for the pizza. It is by far my favorite in South Bend. I have never had one I didn’t like. Second visit is for the Italian beef. This wasn’t very good. Tough, chewy and not much flavor. Cole slaw is very good here. I believe it is made in house So if I combine the 2 visits I still come up with 5 stars. Pizza is that good and that consistent for me to give them that.

It’s so dark in there man. The pizza was a 7⁄10 but the lights left a lot to be desired. I couldn’t see anything the whole time. I felt like Stevie Wonder when I was in that place. Sometimes I tried to reach for my cup full of fruit punch and ended up grabbing some fries from my fry basket instead. That is really annoying because I need to drink something when I am thirsty not eat a food like fries that just make me more parched. It took me about 2 hours and 45 minutes to finish my meal because of the darkness. I would say this place is more of a $$$$ joint than a $$ joint. If you are going to drop a few bucks on a pizza here then you might as well go out and buy some nightvision goggles. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and gave the joint 4 stars. Maybe the lights were just not working that day. I understand that electricians are in hot demand these days so the problem is understandable. Definitely going to hit up a sbarro next time instead.

This is an interesting place. Based off of the reviews we were hoping to find our new go to pizza place while we lived in the area but sadly that didn’t turn out. When you walk in the place is completely windowless and there are mainly two person booth tables. Instead of a waiter you order at the front and pick it up there as well. The pizza was decent but not anything to write home about.

How disappointing! I am a long time Barnaby’s customer in Illinois. I travel to South Bend a few times a year and was thrilled to find two Barnaby’s locations. Last time I was here I tried the Grape rd. Location in Mishawaka. Yummmm yummm yummm! The crust was thin and crispy and the sauce and toppings were perfect. I read the reviews online and saw the high praise for this location and thought I needed to try it on this trip… What a disappointment! YUCK! The mushrooms were chopped into little pieces of nothingness. I could barely identify them. I asked for fresh garlic and got WHOLECLOVES throughout the pizza! The biggest offense was the thick, doughy crust. What a shame! You forgot how to make Barnaby’s pizza… Visit Mishawaka or Northbrook, IL for the right way to make a proper Barnaby’s pizza… Well, I decided to head over to the Mishawaka location and get a delicious Barnaby’s pizza for the ride back to Chicago. The dogs will be eating SB Barnaby’s pizza tonight.

Best pizza in South Bend. Supreme is the best. You order at the window and they will call your number. Seperate bar area to order your drinks. Great for delivery! Seating is first come and it can fill up quickly.

I was in south bend for the first time on business and wanted to try some pizza for dinner. This place had pretty good reviews on Unilocal,so I decided to give it a try. I have need been to a pizza place quite like this before. The other reviews prepared me for the mideval ambiance, but not the flow of the place. First you see a big counter and you go and fill out a paper ticket for your good one for any sides and another for the pizza. Then they call your number when your order is ready and you seat yourself. From what I could tell the only way to get any beverage was to go to the bar and order your beverage separately. Which, was a by perturbing since I’m on business and have to fill out ppw and submit all receipts for meals. They made up for the inconvenience by having hard cider at the bar in a fairly small establishment. The pizza was delish! I very much enjoyed eating it. The breadsticks I ordered looked like they were extra deep fried in the outside. They looked similar to a corn dog without a stick or a dog, but they tasted way better than they looked. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to bus my own table or not, but I saw a fellow cleaning off tables so I let him do it. I didn’t realize that this place was a sort of chipotle style eatery only for pizza. I was expecting sit down tables. The method looks great for take out and I liked the pizza. It was very similar to the pizza I would get in my very small hometown in rural IL.

This is for anyone traveling through, I cannot speak for locals. To summarize, I am a pizza lover and can enjoy the most basic of pizzas, the only pizza I won’t eat is cici’s until now. I would suggest purchasing a personal sized microwave pizza from a gas station and heating up at your hotel over this. Full details below, if you do go here, I wish you a much better experience than we had. Ambiance: quite dark, nostalgic, midwest feel, family friendly, hard wooden benches for seating. Ordering: Walk-up order for food on right and then drinks on left-you’ll pay separately at each station and they do take credit cards. They’ll call your number when food is ready for you to pick up. Rationed amounts of Parmesan cheese in small cups, none on tables. Price was appropriate for what we ordered, breadsticks, large pizza and 2 drinks for around $ 22. Service was helpful, not overly friendly. Food: Breadsticks with cheese is not what I would expect from a pizza place. Here it is fried bread with nacho cheese dip. Pizza-basic flavors of cheese, pepperoni, minimal sauce, crust is thin and hard and crunches like it’s stale, although I’m not sure how that happens. Ordered a large-could feed 3 – 4 depending on how much you eat. Ours was half extra cheese, half pepperoni-only found 2 pieces without pepperoni. Women’s bathroom: old-although being remodeled, not too dirty, not too clean, water is hot, no drain cover so don’t drop a ring and paper towels are auto-although it’s hard to tell unless you’re 2′ tall and can see the sign on the underside of it. Left without finishing for snacks back at the hotel. From my husband: a few things never to be found in a «pizza place»: Awkward ambiance, Nacho cheese, Dust, Stale crust
