Thought I would feel slightly uncomfortable patronizing a German brewhaus when I don’t drink. Totally welcoming and relaxed. Big plate of food. Pork schnitzel is like a moister lighter battered version of Katsu. Jäger sauce(gravy) is a drooling keeper. Great place to hang after a day skiing conveniently located right across the road from Heavenly ski lift.

Finally discovered what Schnitzel is and it is delicious! I ordered the pork schnitzel and it was deep fried moist goodness. German version of Katsu. The Jaga sauce which is really gravy over the mash potatoes pulled it all together. I wouldn’t order the brats sausage plate again though. Flavor was lacking and texture was a little on the tough chewy side which is not my taste. Salad and Brussels sprouts were good. Great customer service. I will be back for schnitzel next time I’m back in the area.

Pretty cool authentic-ish German Haus. Went on a snowy night with not many visitors. We were only two of 12 people in the dining room. Sat at the end of a long Haus table and had a pretty decent schnitzel and cheese spaetzle. Schnitzel was a touch dry, but didn’t belly up for the $ 21 Jaeger Sauce. Wish I had had a sauce, but I know the cost of Jaeger, so thought the«up charge» for the sauce was exorbitant. Had a pretty extensive selection of German beer, so got another star for that. Service was non-existent. The bar area was more populated, so the service staff lingered in that area. Don’t be fooled to think the lead Unilocal photos of the authentic German Band in lederhosen will be the crew working there. Definitely not the same impression.

If you are in Tahoe, it’s a must go! If you aren’t in Tahoe, you should get in your car and drive there right now! Absolutely delicious food, great location, incredible customer service, knowledgeable staff, an overall great experience. I was part of a large group and our time there couldn’t have been any better. Our drinks and food came out within a reasonable amount of time even for such a large group. David was GREAT! He let us sample some beers before committing to an entire liter or two of whatever we chose. Make sure to get a boot when you are there for the full experience. Also the pretzel and schnitzel are a must get. Hands down Himmel Haus was a highlight of our bachelorette weekend. Thank you David and Kelly for going above and beyond and making our time there so enjoyable!

I kept meaning to try this place but kept putting it off because it was a bit off the beaten path. After my 1st visit I was bummed I didn’t go there sooner. This is a must go spot when your in the area. Everything was great, even the stuff you have never heard of, bier & food. Check it out.

Saturday road trip to South Lake Tahoe for lunch and other things. Himmel Haus has been on our hit list for a while. Arrived shortly after opening(after 12-noon) and surprised how few patrons were here for this apparently popular beer and food destination. Within a half-hour, other peeps were arriving. Overall 3 stars, not quite 4. Food was really quite good. Somewhat pricey. Daytime vibe is probably much different than late afternoon/evening. On wurst plates, four different wurst sausages to pick from. The food deserves 4+ stars. A really nice selection(50+) of German and Belgian beer — mostly bottled, some draught. Our appetizers: * Bavarian pretzel with bacon/onion jam, and a spicy mustard * Brussel Sprouts, halved and sautéed(these were awesome!) Our lunch mains: * Wurst smothered in a curry ketchup, side of salad, and Belgian Frites(almost burnt) * Spätzle(house made) sautéed in butter with onions, loaded with smoked gouda and other cheeses; added a wurst … delicious and rich. * Slow roast pork, gravy, with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes I didn’t care much for the curry ketchup and the fries were overcooked. The pork didn’t belong to my S/O so I didn’t dive in. The building is somewhat unimpressive with some obvious maintenance needs. The entrance — a wide hallway, empty kegs lined up on both sides, with the awkard host podium at the far end. I was told that the 45+/- empty kegs are typical for a weeks consumption here(not sure I believe it). Interior, layout, and fixtures are definitely dated and in need of sprucing up. Carpet had stretch ripples and was worn. We were seated in the sunken area by the gas fireplace(that doesn’t work, we were told). Two tables in this lower area as well as a sectional upholstered cozy bench/couch. The ladies restroom is in view for all to see. Located such that peeps in the dining area can see those who enter and exit. When not occupied, the door swings open about half way leaving an excellent view it’s interior. The men’s room was filthy — fixtures and floor had not been cleaned before opening. The food deserves a good rating. Unfortunately, the other factors here marred the potential 4+ rating. During the day, when day lit, some things become more evident. During the evening/night, much of this might be easily overlooked and left with a different impression — as well as much more beer consumption happening later in the day. This was a fairly pricey lunch at $ 131(before tip). 2 appetizers, 4 lunch plates, and 4 beers.

We got here just before noon and we were welcomed in early by Terence. He was also our waiter. Very friendly and he had a very laid back mannerism. While waiting for our food my wife gave him 20 questions or so about various things Tahoe. He was more than willing to help us out with information. Since we got there early nobody else was there. It soon started to fill up once we got our food. We had the Bavarian Pretzel $ 10 and the warm German Potato Salad $ 5. Both were Excellent. The Potato Salad brought back childhood memories for me. My Mom is half German, half Swedish. My wife had the Sausage Plate $ 10 with Knockwurst. It came with mashed potatoes, sauerkraut & macaroni. No bread though. She loved it but of course couldn’t finish it. I had the Pork Roast $ 18. Cooked perfectly on top of the mashed potatoes and covered with a herb gravy. It came with rotkohl and sauerkraut. No bread. I savored this dish as I slowly ate it. Again more childhood memories. I highly recommend Himmel Haus. The ambience of is great. Very relaxing. We watched people come down the slope of Heavenly since it is almost next to the Gonola. Great service, great food. The only recommendations are include sliced bread with the meal and get the WiFi working.

Food: I’ve been here twice and the food+beer has been fantastic each time! The only thing is they have run out of the Schweins-Haxe both times I’ve been there, stating that it’s a super popular dish and they always run out by Saturday evening. Why can’t they just make more of it?! Service: Great the first time and very very very slow the second time. Ambiance: One side is sit down restaurant and the other side is bar-style.

This place has great food and an awesome selection of European beers. The service is slow in a good way. Even though they were very busy they never rushed us to leave. Reservations are a must. Don’t even bother showing up without.

First off the beer selection here is first rate. There are several German beers on tap all for $ 6 for the customary half liter. Excellent! Try the Schwaben Brau dunkel, very easy drinking, yet mystical finish. German Weizen von Fass, is also hard to find. They have it. My advise is go GERMAN from the fass/keg. It is a German place after all. Food wise is where I drop them a star. BUTONLY minor miscues, like my red cabbage was mushy, and just too tart, most Germans use apples in various forms to even out the bitterness. The Schnitzel was big and perfectly cooked. The ambience is middle of the road beer house style with a great bar, a cozy band stage, and some nooks. There are awesome fireplaces, and great wood tables to bring nice size parties. Service was efficient and friendly. Love it!

I’ve been trying to visit this place for the last year and I finally made it. It gets VERY busy so don’t hesitate to make reservations. The food was so tasty, I am definitely going back. The dipping sauce with the fries was addictive, the extra cheesy spätzle was to die for, and all the sausages were great. German beers are all good and they have a great selection. The servers were nice and the crowd was very hip. I’ve been to Germany and love everything about their cuisine and beer and this place did it right. The cons: terrible parking, also the chairs and tables were super janky and the carpet looked gross(the pictures of that fireplace area were deceiving). With the prices and the crowds, they could probably afford to give the place some love.

I always like coming back to Himmel House for that authentic German mountain village restaurant experience. The food is quintessentially German, my favorite being the sausage platter, frites, and pork Osso buco. Be prepared for large portions that are great to share with large groups. Above all, the German beer selection here is unparalleled, my favorite is Fruh, the cleanest I have ever tasted. The service feels like you are dining at a family restaurant where everyone knows not just you but your whole family across multiple generations, down to kid menus. One of my favorite restaurants in town to relax and unwind after a hard day on the slopes.

Fantastic service, great food & great beer! I loved the Kas-Spatzen with bacon! It’s a little heavy, but so good! Also, we got a pretzel as an appetizer and later we wanted another after our meal. Our amazing server was kind enough to prepare us a pretzel to go. She verbally told us how to bake it when we got home. It came out great! I’m definitely coming back!

I have been here a couple times and I am glad I am writing this after my second trip. The first trip would have gotten a lower review only because on a Tuesday night ‘Sierra’ was the only person working and she was could not adequately serve as many people that were there. * Great German and Belgian beer selection * Food that will make your mouth water just by walking in the door * Not to large and has nice, cozy, social vibe. * Friendly service * BLACKOUTBINGOEVERYTUESDAYNIGHT!!! Parking can be difficult.

I’m so glad that I stopped by Himmel Haus on my recent South Lake Tahoe trip. It was the best food I had there! I loved the environment of Himmel Haus. There is a cozy area which they hold their open mic nights. There are also board games enticing you to lounge around. Our waiter was genuinely friendly and helpful. He made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. The restaurant has a rotating list of sausages. Our waiter shared the five sausages they had for the night. Our group shared a sausage platter, which comes with four sausages, but we added the fifth sausage for a little extra. We also ordered Belgian frites and the Bavarian pretzel. The Belgian frites was good but not amazing. However, the garlic aoili it came up with was addicting to dunk the frites into! However, I was pleasantly surprised by the pretzel! It was delicious and came with a mustard dip and onion jam that only elevated the flavors of this pretzel. By the way, the pretzel was huge and is easily shareable with friends! It was bigger than my head! Lastly, I had no regrets with adding that extra sausage to the sausage platter because they all tasted so good. They were all so flavorful. It is hard for me to recall what exactly we ordered and while each sausage offered a different flavor, I found myself liking each and every one of them for different reasons. The sausages came resting on top of the best sauerkraut I have ever tasted. I cannot find one thing to say I didn’t like about Himmel Haus! We came on Sunday so it was unfortunate that we could not catch one of their events. They have bingo nights, trivia nights, and open mic nights! That only means I have to go back one day. It is definitely worth the visit while in South Lake Tahoe!

Our group of 17 was well taken of by the friendly folks at Himmel Haus. We showed up at around 5pm without a reservation and it was pretty empty but they did say that two larger groups were coming later that night. There was a special family style meal that costs $ 26 per portion and includes the pretzel, salad, spatzel(two types), schnitzel, sauerkraut(purple and regular), sausages(four types), and apple streusel. The reason I say it’s $ 26 per portion and not person is because one portion can feed multiple people. For 14 adults and 3 kids, we ordered 10 portions($ 260) and we had plenty of leftovers. Given, we had ordered a couple appetizers(more pretzels, Belgian frites, brussel sprouts) before even finding out about the family meal. All the food was great! If you’re coming with a group and/or for the first time then definitely get the family meal. You have an opportunity to try a little bit of everything. If I were to come a second time, I’d try the roast pork with gravy and mashed potatoes. Also, you have to get the das boot. It comes in 1−4L but it goes fast if you have a group. Overall it’s a fun environment with people because they have tons of long tables. Definitely a must visit if you’re in Tahoe!

What an amazing find!!! This place was beyond amazing. They have great beers, great food. The place is kind of hidden its not by the main village where a lot of shops and restaurants are located but rather hidden towards the mountains, isolated from any businesses. We sat by a nice warm fire and ordered some delicious beers. I got the Paulaner Munchen which is a very good hefeweizen and my boyfriend got the Zwick’l which was really really good, we had to get another one of the Zwick’l. We decided on the kase spaetzle and added two sausages. OMG! The spaetzle was incredible, it was creamy deliciousness. It was very rich in flavor and it was very filling, my boyfriend and I actually shared the plate. After every bite I couldn’t control myself from making yum noises after every spoonful. hahah. But I have to say hands down the garlic veal sausage was to die for! It was very tender and juicy with not too overpowering garlic flavor. I don’t think I’ve ever had a better tasting sausage than that! The combination sausage was pretty good too but it was shadowed by the super star garlic veal! I cant wait to come back to Tahoe just to come eat at Himmel Haus again!

Awesome German beer. Awesome bingo Tuesdays. Awesome food… I found the pot o gold. This place is cash money. This place is as authentic German as it gets around here. The pretzel is really good, fresh and nicely salted. Comes with three condiments. The pork roast is very soft. It melts in your mouth with the gravy. The mashed potatoes are on point too. The currywurst has awesome curry ketchup that kind of tastes like a peculiar BBQ sauce. But it goes so well with the sausage. Definitely hunt this place if youre in town.
