The food and service was outstanding by far. I would give it 6 stars if it were possible! I had the chicken fried steak with eggs over medium and potatoes o’brian. I also had a hot chocolate, it was a little cool outside! The waitress was always available for refills on coffee or hot chocolate. It was a perfect breakfast for our last morning in South Lake Tahoe! See you in a couple of years!

The owner showed us to our table, explained the menu and that her food is all homemade and fresh. She gets her bread from a local bakery. There’s coffee set up in case you have to wait for a table(we came on a busy Sunday and the wait wasn’t too bad, especially with the coffee!) Food was delicious, generous portions, exceptionally friendly staff. Drinks are strong:) The outdoor patio is shady and pleasant. I can’t recommend this place enough! Love it.

This is going to be a regular stop for us whenever we are in Tahoe. The breakfast here was AMAZING! I tried a bit of everything my family ordered and it was all good! The outdoor setting is beautiful. Just make sure to bring a sweater in case it’s chilly out. The staff was also friendly and helpful in getting our large party seated together. Can’t wait to return!

Snow capped mountains in the middle of June, friendly service, and amazing food. We did have to wait about 15 min to be seated and another 30 for our food to come out… but the portions were large and the ingredients and presentation were 1st class. We enjoyed lunch today and the fam and I will be coming back tomorrow am for breakfast. Well worth the drive from SLT.

Great service, tasty food and the kitchen was quick to getting food out on a Saturday morning. Lots of out door seating and fair amount of tables inside. Highly recommended location if you’re in the area. «The morning after» menu item was biscuits and gravy on steroids with eggs over biscuits w/gravy + choice of hash browns or sausage.

We just tried this place for the first time and are delightfully impressed. I ordered the coconut French toast, it’s sweet and delicious! Hubby ordered an omelette it was really good as well. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our glasses never got empty, as they were refilling them quickly. The owner was super friendly as well, made us feel right at home. This will be a must visit place for us every time we come to Tahoe.

I originally gave this place a 5 star rating as we went there back in November 2015 and had amazing amazing Food… we were back here on 05 – 14 I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich which was horrible the chicken was dry and had so much sauce that made it really hard to eat the sandwich. I had to take the chicken out of the buffalo chicken sandwich and I ordered a side of bacon and avocados to eat with my sandwich. The soup that came with it was really good though. We also ordered the deluxe eggs Benedict and this time around it didn’t taste the same as when we had it back in November.

My boyfriend, Zach, and I went up to Tahoe for our 5 year anniversary and the entire weekend there, or even before we left, I was raving about this place to him. I was there once with a couple friends, but he had never been. I couldn’t wait to go back and try pretty much anything on their menu because I had such a good experience the last time. We started off with some clam chowder soup which was a little pricy for the amount you get(about $ 5 for a small cup) but you won’t be disappointed with your order because it was actually very tasty! Zach got a breakfast burrito and I ordered what’s been on my mind ever since I left the place last summer –their coconut crusted french toast(about $ 10 for the half order and $ 13 I believe for the full). &Yes, it was just as delicious as last time. I recommend always getting the half order bc even with 3 – 4 people at the table, it will probably be enough! The half order is 3 generous slices of french toast with a heaping amount of their sauce and coconut flakes. It’s very sweet and full of rich flavor so I would say get it as a side-order along with a more breakfast-ty dish. I was already pretty satisfied after eating only half of one toast. Zach and I shared both our orders and it was enough to get us full and bring home leftovers. I plan to be back on my next visit to Tahoe :)

This is a cute place. It looks like a cottage outside, but is really bigger on the inside(cue Doctor Who joke), and seems to be rather popular on a late weekend morning. The food is just pretty run-of-the-mill diner stuff. They are supposedly known for their french toast — I got some with eggs and sausage, and it really was just toast grilled after dipping in egg, which wasn’t all that. The mister got eggs benedict(duh), and didn’t care for it all that much. So there, it is on par with most other diners we’ve been to. Tons of eggs and calories, but not the taste we’re looking for. Ugh, times like these, I miss the east coast.

Ran into this place on the way to Tahoe. I knew right off the bat that I was going to order the biscuits and gravy because of what people have recommended. The waitress told us the soup of the day was new England clam chowder, so I decided to give it a shot, too… HOLYSHIT, WASITGOOD!!! It’s been a while since I’ve had clam chowder that reminded me of something made at home… Same as the biscuits and gravy… Definitely worth a look if you’re in the area… The waitress with all the tattoos was cute, too.

From the outside, this place looks like some greasy diner populated by working men and women fed by sweaty cooks with big, hairy forearms dishing out hits of nostalgia food. I walked in to find nice floors, cozy air, natural lighting(not a bad thing), a yuppie clientele and, naturally, yuppie prices. I had their Coconut French Toast. The thing I heard they were famous for. It arrived the way most lovely things do, unexpected and well-dressed. I enjoyed it more than my bacon burger, which isn’t saying much. I should learn how to order better. I liken this place to an Ihop if Ihop tried to go indie by killing the lights and introducing alcohol. The Getaway Café satisfies. That’s all One of the classier wifi-hotspots in Meyers

Me and my husband walked into the café famished after out 2 hour early morning snowmobile tour. We hadn’t had breakfast, a mistake we didn’t regret because of what that followed later. To begin with we were so warmly received the moment we entered. The owner of the café made sure we’re comfortable and also recommended the best on the menu. We ordered the Deluxe Benedict, the Sweet and Sour French toast, and two mimosas. The blood orange Mimosa was delicious and so was the Benedict! The French Toast tangy with the sweet berry sauce was total bliss. And so being hungry turned out to be quite an advantage. We couldn’t have tried all this otherwise! :) Only request… If they could add some smoothies and shakes to the menu. Anyway here’s one more thing I’ll look forward to on our future Tahoe visits besides the lake and the snow, a hearty meal at Getaway! :)

Pretty standard breakfast spot. Eggs benedict, omelettes, scrambles, pancakes, french toast, sausage, bacon, hash, etc. Food is solid, nothing super special(not the omelettes anyway), but it’s conveniently located on the way from South Lake Tahoe to Kirkwood, so it’s a good place to grab food in the morning before hitting the slopes. The place is somewhat small, so I can imagine it being pretty busy on the weekend. –EGGSTRAORDINARYVEGGIEOMELETTE($ 10.95) — 3⁄5 [zucchini, yellow squash, tomato, spinach, mushroom, choice of cheese; served w/toast + fries, hash browns or fruit] What you would expect from an omelette. Decent size — maybe 3 or 4 eggs? I ordered mine with egg whites only(unfortunately for an extra $ 1) and no cheese. Definitely pretty filling, especially with the toast and side.

Normally I like coming to the Getaway Café in the summers for great outdoor dining, but this visit is the middle of Feb in the winter, so indoor it is. I had my BF meet me here as I was coming up from Sacramento and had such an awful sushi dining experience in Placerville, I just wanted some tasty food to get my mind off of that experience. Tasty food is what they do here at the Getaway Café. We meet up and go on in. Wow, tons of people here midweek at 2pm! We get a nice table by the window. Just waters to drink this time please. I wasn’t super hungry this time, so what we did is split the splendid Beef Dip Sandwich($ 13.50). We opted for the side salad instead of my usual fries, yeah, a little healthy kick. When we ordered, I told the server we were going to share the beef dip. I was expecting just to share off the same plate, no biggie. But when the food arrived it was split onto 2 plates, even the salad was split… all no charge… now hows that for service? Most restaurants, there’ed be a split plate charge, but not here at the Getaway Café! The Beef Dip, I think, is my most fave thing to order here, although the burgers are a very close second. I’ll tell you, this beef dip is life changing… really …it is! It’s grilled, sliced thin and seasoned beef piled into a Dutch Crunch type roll topped with cheese and grilled and battered onion strings and then you dip that into the best au jus, before you slide that dripping succulent sandwich into you mouth and bite down. OMFG! is the soooo good! My feet do the happy dance under the table! Just look at my pic… and you’ll get the point. I even asked for extra onion strings … no prob and NO charge! They treat the customer right here, cause it’s customers that keep this place in business. Service is super friendly and perky by the young staff. Diane, the owner, only hires the best here and it shows. After finishing my half Beef Dip, I was feeling a whole lot better than when I arrived and my terrible dining experience in Placerville is behind me. Come to the Getaway Café in Meyers, right near the Cal AG inspection station and Highway 89 on Highway 50 for some happy food! This is my, happy food restaurant!

Having poured over Tahoe restaurant reviews for our upcoming trip to Tahoe, I came across this gem. The Getaway Café is the highest rated breakfast in South Tahoe. And now I know why. Came in on Tuesday morning. Famished. We were warmly greeted & told to sit wherever we like. I’d had their Coconut Crusted French Toast on my mind since I’d found out about it on Unilocal. So that was a no brainer order for me. Our server told me that they do half orders. Perfect. I ended up ordering the combo; a half order of coconut french toast, a scrambled egg, &2 strips of bacon. My man went with the omelette we both wanted; the spanish omelette. Holy cow. When my plate was put in front of me, I thought it was a mistake. It was huge. I thought they surely forgot that I ordered a half order. «That is a half order» she told me. Wow. Let me just tell you about this dish. The beautiful aesthetic of it… the white cream of coconut sauce, w all the shredded coconut & sliced bananas, on top of the perfectly golden french toast… matches the taste. My egg was scrambled perfectly, too. A home run. I assumed going in that the french toast would be the winner at the table. I was wrong. This spanish omelette was an actual explosion of flavors in my mouth. The salsa, the chorizo, the onion, the olives… they melded together so harmoniously it made my mind stop. The flavor was amazing. What I thought was going to be just good but nothing special, turned out to be the best Spanish omelette that I’ve ever had. Hands down, this is where to have breakfast in ST. 5 stars.
