I didn’t get the chance to try the food but the bar was excellent! I grew up in Southington in the 70s &80s when there were a number of great bars serving food which are now all gone but this place is a real keeper. I wish I had tried some of the food but I had already eaten dinner. Their pudding shots were addictive. My old friend Dee suggested this place and I was not disappointed. Nice mixed crowd from 20s to 50s and a drop dead gorgeous bartender(Jill the mixologist) with a fantastic personality that made everyone feel at home the moment you sat down. The owner and a few of the regulars were incredibly nice as well. I would come here anytime even if I were by myself. This place is like Southington’s version of «Cheers» for those of us old enough to remember…

Delicious nachos. Huge proportions. Big ass nachos earn their name. Best nachos between the east coast and North Dakota.

For a crappy looking dive, they have pretty good food and drink specials. I had the weeks and they were cooked perfectly and had many flavor choices.

Very fun atmosphere, always a mixed crowd which is nice. In the warmer months the patio is open unless you’re a hard core smoker then you smoke out there year round which being a non smoker is greatly appreciated. Prices are always low and they have pudding shots, I repeat Pudding. Shots!

Wings were terrible, that was the only reason we went. They taste like the oil they are fried in and it wasn’t good. My brother even thought they tasted fishy which leads me to believe it probably was fried in old oil. The burger was good, fries undercooked… ok beer selection. My guess is this is a local hangout because of the looks we got walking in, but the server was friendly enough. If I had known the area better and didn’t depend on Unilocal to find me a local sports bar, I would not have stopped here.

I love being the bearer of good news… I think that’s why I like Unilocal. Well after many years of living in Southington, and hearing about the food there from other restaurant owners, I finally made it down to the Frog to get some wings and burgers. This is your typical dive, very small with limited seating, yet they make do with what they have. Tons of great beers on tap, live music, and a great bar menu. It’s very intimate and we ended up having some great conversations with the staff and clientele. Okay so the food… The Frog has slayed many local competitions with their wings for many years. So we ordered a standard medium buffalo wing to see what they’re all about. They were fresh and meaty, and the buffalo sauce was super tasty. I also liked that the bleu cheese dip had some garlic in it, so good. You can go to their site and see all the wing flavors they have, as there is definitely something for everyone! We also heard that their homemade burgers are to die for, so we ordered«The Classic»(lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and bacon), medium rare. I posted a picture… This was one of the freshest and juiciest burgers I have had in a long time. This is definitely my favorite burger in the area now. The burgers come with fries, waffle fries, or onion strings. I don’t really know if I am happy about this find. I mean the food was so good, and it is so close to home. This could be a recipe for disaster… Great job guys!

This is the best local bar in the area. Hands down. The people are exceptionally friendly and the food is great… WIngs(the Hot Toddie’s) and the Meatball sanwiches are exceptional — especially the sliders!

Nice atmosphere for a hole-in-the-wall. Went there twice for live music and enjoyed the darts/mini games in the corner. Never had their drinks before or their food, but I intend to come back one day and try their 10 oz burger that is advertised on the side of their building. On cold nights, there is very limited seating. During the warm days/nights, there is plenty of outdoor seating and the music can be enjoyed outside too. They also have a few tvs and nicely decorated«Froggy» inside with tons of little froggy trinkets. It is a nice place to go with the guys or even to bring a date to live music, but nothing overly special if you are not from the area. Fun anicdote — The last time i went, I not only ran into 3 different people from my childhood, but I also saw a whole wedding party stop by to enjoy a few drinks after the wedding. When we asked why here of all places, we were told«stfu». This place really is the place to be, just ask anyone in there.

I want to start off by saying I refused for years to come to this bar just because it looked too much like a crappy dive bar. I was quite surprised with it when I made my first trip here. It is a bit divey but in a good way. Nothing fancy but nothing bad either. All of the bartenders are actually quite friendly and very fast. It s also not too expensive which always works for me. What really got me was the food. I was SHOCKED how decent the food is. I would get the wings here over Sliders and J Timothys any day of the week. They have a lot of different flavors and they are always crispy. I normally get their hot wings which are easly better than Sliders but it was actually their mild wings that got me. They were great! For me mild wings are a waste of time. Somone happened to order these and I couldn’t believe how good they were. Even if you dont care for local bars give their food a chance. Especially if you get wings from Sliders and Tims. I think you will be surprised.

I love this place! When I am not working this is my bar I go to. The owner is awesome, the atmosphere is great, décor is very nice. Mike M does a good job with the karaōke on Friday Nights and the selection of bands they have are good.

Only had the wings. Tried a few different flavors including hot, honey hot, chipotle horseradish and spicy garlic ginger. The hot was the only decent one but could use more of a kick. Spicy garlic ginger was NOT spicy. Honey hot was the closest thing to a spicy bbq. Chipotle horseradish was not smokey and didn’t have much chipotle flavor. Some of the wings were on the smaller side, but on par with most of all the places I’ve had on CT. They were well fried and not overcooked. I like hot but was hesitant to try the FU hot since most places will just kill you with heat and lack flavor on their hottest sauces. I will go back again to see if consistency is there. Not allowing multiple flavors on an order or 20 wings is BS. You wouldn’t see that in Buffalo(I’m originally from Buffalo). The beer selection was well stocked with regulars and seasonal crafts. Very enjoyable. If the wings are consistently good on the next trip, and the beer selection remains positive, I’ll bump them up to 4 stars. Service was excellent!

We enjoyed the Groggy Frog. We went on a Sunday with a certificate not knowing what to expect. We really liked the food and the service was great. We have been back a few times since to enjoy the patio during happy hour. Just wish they would serve food during the afternoon before 6 pm on weekdays.

Not good at all, very filthy– poor service unless you are a local bar fly. forget about getting anyone to serve you — not going to happen. .It really is as dirty on the inside as it looks from the outside. One word to sum it up-Gross!

When I first entered, it seemed like the Groggy Frogg iis more of a bar than a restaurant. I’d recommend going early or on weekdays to have a meal. They had very juicy, handcrafted burgers and some of the best and most authentic Mexican food I have ever eaten, which was a pleasant surprise. For a place that seems to have a reputation for great beer, the selection was not terribly impressive and there are only one or two tables to sit and eat at. The quality of the food here is outstanding and I can only hope that the owners make it more inviting for casual diners looking for a great meal.

Located within a block of at least 5 bars in the heart of downtown Southingon lies this great watering hole. Cool little cozy pub, very nice draft beer selection, great bartenders, and tasy food. Karaōke Thursdays and live music some nights. Definitely a must see for the local crowd. Bonus: Nice side patio.

A buddy and me went here on a Saturday night because his friends are in a band(Drift) that was performing there. I was told«great cover band, all songs you will know.» Well, they were good… but not really my idea of a bar cover band playing only songs you can sing to. Although, they did play a Weezer song so… Needless to say, the place was pretty cool. Reasonably priced everything, good aesthetic feel, typical CT crowd ranging from 20s to 50s. There were some REALLY cute girls there, but they were all with their boyfriends. Go figure… We also tried their snacks and I was impressed, although it is hard to mess up bacon/cheese fries. Ultimately the place is too small to have a band play. They take up good standing room and then everyone is facing them, so it is hard to maneuver. Plus, people are too scared to get close to the band so their is a big chunk of wasted space between them and the crowd. I prefer a jukebox 9 times out of 10. Check it out cause it is a really nice area of Southington anyway.

This is a little bar that has nice food and drinks. We always go on a Sunday, ½ price wings, but when we go for lunch, even tho the kitchens open at noon no one is ever there to cook! So if you want ½ price wings go for dinner. Friday and Saturday nights are nice, there is always a live band playing. The place is small so it gets hot and packed. The wings are amazing. Hot or mild, both are great. They smell so good, you have to order them! Fries are also good. They have a small menu– appetizers, sandwiches and burgers. Never had a bad experience, except when the kitchen isn’t open when it should be. Drinks are reasonable. A big pint beer glass of a mixed drink is $ 5 or so depending. Bartenders are always nice. They also have a bunch of TV for sports games!
