Awesome outdoor seating area overlooking pretty vineyard and flowers, comfy chairs, chill music, breeze running through your hair, sangria at your fingertips… THATSANGRIA. It’s what they’re known for. It’s unique and not what you think. It’s made with triple sec! They also do wine flights. Their own wine are amazing.

I posted the following email to the contact email on the Mattebella Vineyards website on April 21s, 2016. As on May 6th I’ve yet to receive a response. My contact information was posted in the email, but feel free to PM via Unilocal. The two stars is for the lack of response… not the wine. **************************************** To Whom it May Concern, I visited your vineyard last fall and purchased a mixed case. One of the bottles I opened tonight, Old World Blend, was corked and the wine was oxidized. I’ve stored the wine in my temperature controlled wine cellar since the day of purchase. The cork crumbled upon opening. What is your replacement policy? I’ve had this wine, as well as others from your vineyard several times and always enjoyed both the vineyard and the wines. *******************************************

Awesome vineyard and great wine selections! It was relaxing being able to enjoy our tastings outside sitting near the fire pit. The lemonade was very good too!

Great time in an awesome location on the NoFo. The staff at the winery were very accommodating and the wine was very good. Only thing that I would change is either offer more food choices or allow outside food. Overall a very good, low key winery with amazing potential. I will be back for sure.

Our server John was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the wines he served us and gave us thorough explanations of how they were made and what type of weather makes for good grapes for wine. Many of the other wineries I went to you just buy the wine at the bar and enjoy it elsewhere. This was more of an interactive, educational experience. I really liked the seating arrangements. They had both tables and benches which were good for groups of up to ten if you want to sit closely to each other. They also offered a few non-alcoholic beverages to chose from, I had a lemonade that the offered.

I’ve been to Mattebella dozens of times, literally, dozens, regardless of Unilocal reporting my ten check-ins as of this review being written. And here we go again, yet another absolutely amazing business that I’ve owed a review, for years. So many reviews to write and much love to show on Unilocal, yet soooooo little time. Let’s get started: The Name: + Mattebella is named after their beautiful children, «Matte“o and Isa“Bella» — they’re even featured on certain bottles(on the label). How cool is that? Grounds: + You cannot park your bus or limo in the main parking lot, it must be parked in the annex parking lot so that you can’t see it while you’re tasting their fabulous wines. This is amazing — I’m tired of bachelorette parties and shenanigans that ensue from other large groups, and I equally dislike seeing busses/limos. + They have the loveliest garden surrounding you full of roses, fig trees, flowers, shrubs, grape vines(experimental varieties), various types of seating in several arrangements, and even a fountain during the warmer months which is replaced by a fire pit in the cooler months + Ample parking in both lots + Do you play bocce? They have bocce courts… show me your skillz Vino: + Old World(OW) Blends — in the essence of full disclosure, their 2005OW Blend was my favorite wine they’ve ever made. Their ’07OW Blend is equally fabulous, their ’09 is drinking very nicely right now(even though that vintage for the region wasn’t that great), and their others are great as well(’08, ’10, etc). Each one is distinct and I suggest you try them all to determine which one is your favorite + Chards — I’m an odd duck and love 100% New French Oak, 100% ML Chards. I do enjoy their Chards but I prefer their OW Blends more. Most of my friends love their Chards as it’s the balance that most Chard drinkers are looking for + Sangria — Yes, they make a great sangria based off their older Rosé vintage(s), with fresh cut up fruit and mint from their garden. If you don’t like wine, drink their Sangria. + Sparkling Rosé — they’ve recently released a sparkling Rosé which is very exciting! They make a cocktail out of it featuring Amarena cherries… soooo good. + Rosé — Their Rosé(non-sparkling) is the best Provencal style Rosé I’ve had on the NoFo to date. If you don’t like Provençal style Rosés, it’s not for you! Flights: + They feature both red/white flights as well as small bites paired with certain wines. When was the last time you were at a winery on the NoFo that is still featuring small bites/pairings to augment the wine(or vice versa)? Music: + They have the best damn music selection(Mark, the owner’s iPod) that you’ll hear at any winery. One minute, you’ll hear Missy Misdemeanor Elliot and four minutes later, you’ll hear Phil Collins. The Owners/Staff: + Mark and Chris(tine) Tobin(the owners) are always present and working incredibly hard. It ain’t easy to do what they do and truly do love what they do. It’s easy to see the passion they have in what they produce and the pride they take in serving you their wines! + John R. has been there for many years and is incredibly knowledgable about their wines and wines in general from various regions of the world + Trish, Christine, and the rest of the crew are fabulous. If Chris Tobin hires you to work for the winery/tasting room, you’re obviously top notch. ++ Not a single pourer here will ooze an ounce of machismo regardless of how much you do or do not know about wine. I’m TIRED of going to tasting rooms where the pourers shake their heads at you or argue with you about what you’re tasting. Get over your yourselves — it’s wine, you can’t tell me what I taste is wrong! There’s Two Negatives: — They don’t take American Express! :( — They close the tasting room during the extreme Winter months :( I could talk to you about the«Mattebella» family for hours(over several glasses of wine of course) — these guys really are awesome and have managed to elevate their game without turning in to a Frat house winery like so many others have become. Maintaining the boutique-y(even though they’ve become very popular over the years) as well classy status, is tough to do in this region. Keep doing what you do guys… THIS has been a review by Gaurav

It’s truly beautiful here like a piece of heaven. They have multiple areas to sit surrounded by fig trees, canopies, and beautiful trees. The wine flights were a great way to try all their white, red, and rose options. Their rose sangria is a fun drink too. Lovely owners who love sharing their passion for wine with us.

About a month ago we joined a wine club and were told by the gentlemen who works there regularly that the credit card info was needed only for when you purchase wine… there was«no commitment for future purchases» Suddenly we are invoiced for over $ 90 in wine(types we don’t even like) and were told you«should have known there was a commitment to purchase wine». Very unpleasant experience. Mattebella customers BEWARE Mark and Mona Osmer Southold NY

Grounds are gorgeous and it’s quiet and a bit more secluded. Not a big corporate affair. Which is prefer. Charcuterie is served. Pelligrino too. The outdoor seating area is comprised of bistro tables on stone patio overlooking lush flowers & huge vineyard. And there are these intimate small gazebo type seating for smaller groups to hang out together and relax while enjoying the tasting flights. Too, there is an event space which is reminiscent of a greenhouse. The service is attentive. Staff is cordial & knowledgable. Not my fave wines on the northfork but the experience & surroundings are relaxing. Whites were definitely better than the Reds. We purchased a steel barrel aged Chardonnay.

Things Mattebella Vineyards Has: 1. The best sangria I’ve ever had. I’m not really a sangria guy, but this is basically as good as sunshine drinks can be. That should be enough to get you over there, but they also have other stuff. Like: 2. Excellent music. 3. Comfortable seating(like the best beach cabanas). 4. Beautiful fields that your friends can frolic in.* 5. Bocce. 6. Oh yeah, and good wine, if you’re into that. ______________ *Much of the frolicking in this video was done at Mattebella:

Another beautiful winery along the North Fork! Skip the big boys and head over here with a small group to really enjoy what the east end is all about. There were good tunes, comfy seats and excellent wines all while sitting along the vines. Do yourself a favor and order the rosé sangria!(It’s a mix of their rose, lemonade and fresh fruit). It’s incredibly easy to drink and the fruit is fresh. When you get your first round, I would put in an order for round 2, bc you’re gonna want it. Overall, an excellent small winery that deserves a visit!

I enjoyed most of the Chardonnay that they offered. The proprietor seemed terrified when I told her I was originally from California, fearing that I was going to judge their wines too harshly but I actually enjoyed them. Property is beautiful and it was a great day

A real classy vineyard, through and through. Our server was lovely; very charming, funny, and informative when it came to priming your palate for what to expect. We tried the old world wine tasting and it was delicious. And then there was some kind of bacon-infused fig spread? They don’t sell it, but they should! If I were back in the area I’d definitely take the time to bike back here.

The atmosphere in this small, intimate winery can’t be beat! My husband and I have been here twice, he absolutely loves the wines that they offer in terms of reds. The Famiglia is his favorite. All of their wines are on the dry side, and I prefer sweets, so I wasn’t expecting to taste while we were here the second time. The staff members were very nice and tried to find something that I would like. They offered me their 2009 White and their rose to taste. Both were enjoyable for me, and I usually do not like drier wines. I even ordered a glass of the 2009. The red flight that my husband got was paired with small bites which was a great touch. Definitely on our favorites list!

After visiting Mattebella a few weekends ago and having a great experience I decided to go back this past weekend with a group of friends. It was raining, windy, and freezing cold. When we arrived at the vineyard we were greeted in the rain by John, our pourer for the day, who showed us to a enclosed porch. John and the owner Chris had set up a fire pit and blankets to keep us warm during our visit and went the extra mile to make us comfortable on an ugly day. The wine was fantastic, Johns knowledge was insightful, and Chris’ bites were delicious. This is a small, intimate vineyard with stellar wine and owners and staff who genuinely care about their wine and their guests. Cannot wait to go back.

Came here a few Sunday’s ago for my second visit and I dont know how i didnt review it the first time! This place is top notch when it comes to wineries. Its cozy, friendly and the staff is knowledgeable. I dont feel like Im just another customer they are feeding wine to when I come here. The backyard is a nice well situated garden where you can come and just spend time with your friends and family for a nice day. The staff knows about the wines they are serving and provide you with cheeses and breads to taste with the wine so you can see a difference in flavor it gives to the wine. If your in town and passing by or spending the day wine tasting, you MUST stop by, you wont be let down!

Enjoyed north fork wine tasting at Mattebella Vineyards. We had a difficult time finding the place but when we did it was a true gem. My husband had the flight tasting and they automatically had it paired with some cheese, toast and jam. Wonderful right? The reds were really smooth. Holy cow the bacon jam was awesome! It’s too bad they don’t sell it by the jar. The fire pit with a nice touch overlooking the Vineyard view. A very peaceful place to come and relax and enjoy a nice bottle of wine.

I wish I could come here every weekend. Mattebella is a stunning vineyard where you can sip on delicious wines in the most perfect setting. The comfortable seating area is surrounded by vines and flowers, with soft music and a fountain in the background. The tastings came with some delicious bites that they really should start selling– that fig spread was amazing! The service was wonderful and very attentive, even when larger wine tour parties came through– thank you for that! It is easy to be forgotten at wineries when a group of 15 comes through and you are a group of 2! We spent hours here, wishing it was our backyard and enjoying the 07 red blend that I cannot get enough of! am already planning a trip with my family to return to this little wine oasis.

When you pull up the driveway and park, look past the house and you’ll see a walkway that leads to a couple random small buildings. The random small building you want is to the left when you hit the outside seating area. Nothing’s marked, but that’s part of the charm here… You literally feel like you’re in someone’s backyard. The people make it feel like that someone is an old friend. The woman who set up our tasting chatted with us like she knew us, and talked about the wines in a «real» way. No pretentious air, just down-to-earth love of wine. She recommended different spots to sit and even helped gear the tastings depending on what we generally like to drink. We were happily surprised that with our tasting, they pair small food samples so we could get more out of the wine itself. I will say this is a smart move — their wine is good, but better for pairing than drinking on its own, in my opinion. She offered lots of little tidbits about their wines and was lovely. She was not a pushy sales person and seemed grateful that we wanted to purchase two bottles as opposed to expecting us to. Just lent to the backyard, friendly feel and I appreciated it. For its calm and inviting backyard atmosphere, pretty good wine and excellent people, Mattebella earns the #2 spot on our four-stop run. This is definitely somewhere I would return and bring friends or family.
