The one time we tried this restaurant, the staff was nice, the food was okay. What gives the two star rating was when they sat a table of five, and one of the diners had his pocket dog with him. Yes, his Yorkie. It wasn’t a service dog that I could see, and he kept feeding it scraps from the table as he held it on his lap. I’m an animal lover, and I’m guilty of feeding my dogs from the table as well. Just not inside a restaurant. But then, my dog is a 150lb mastiff, not a Yorkie. I just can’t get past it. The food was not memorable, but the dog was.

This place was very good! The complimentary chips and salsa taste so delicious and homemade, The complimentary queso is delicious too. I ordered the lunch special chicken fajitas. They were so flavorful and it was a really big portion for lunch. The chicken was seasoned very nicely. Everything was very tasty! :)

My wife and I were looking for a go to cheap Tex Mex place near our house when we decided to try El Rincon. Service was good, price was fair, but the food was very disappointing and lacked flavor. I asked my wife half way through if she knew the Spanish word for mistake. I’d go with other options in the area.

I had no specific negative experiences here — I simply found the food to be undistinguished at best. There are soooo many competent, and a few outstanding, Tex-Mex restaurants in this area that I see no reason to come here. Service was fine, but… I’d recommend going elsewhere.

Great authentic Mexican restaurant. Tamales are great. Enchiladas are amazing. Love this place. Even the chips and salsa are homemade I believe. And the staff is very friendly. All in all a great place to eat.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. My family used to go here a lot because it’s close to home, but due to reoccurring issues over the past year or so we rarely go anymore. The waiters are beyond rude, it smells like a bathroom, and the food is mediocre at best. Every time I go, the waiters act as though we are an inconvenience. We used to let it slide, but its just getting worse. If you ever need a refill or another margarita, then you’re out of luck because they don’t care. I will never go back.

Went here for lunch today because it’s close to the house I’m staying in for a friend. Wasn’t too sure from the outside but I braved inside the tinted window establishment. Service was great, the waiters were attentive and helpful, but listen to me… I know flavor, and there was none here. Steak and chicken fajitas came out sizzling and hot, I was excited but the steak had an awful odor to it and the chicken was rubbery and only had a slight pineapple taste to it. It did not meet even my lowest expectations. If the flavor matched the service this place would be an absolute hit. I hope to return one day and see that they’ve stepped it up. This is Houston, Mexican joints have no excuse to not use at the very least some salt and pepper… Come on.

I love this place. Every time I come home, I will always stop here at least once. I get the same thing every time, but it works for me so why change? The chicken enchilada al carbon is fantastic. It doesn’t look like it gets as much business as it used to when I lived here 10 years ago, but it still tastes just as good. For me, this place is old faithful. It tastes a hell of a lot better than the Sonoran style Mexican food we have in Arizona.

Checked this place out for the first time last evening. They were highly recommended to me by a co-worker. So I read all the negative Unilocal reviews and went in with the mindset of finding positive things to talk about. I failed. The margaritas were terribly weak. The beef fajitas were not just poorly seasoned, I doubt they were seasoned at all. Tortillas were definitely not fresh. The queso dip was not the absolute worst, but close. The reason I give this a 2 star instead of a 1 is that the service was good and the bacon-wrapped shrimp that was part of our dinner was pretty decent. Not gonna say I would NEVER be back, but if every other TexMex joint on this side of town closed, it would be a definite maybe.

El Rincon use to be the neighborhood place for Tex Mex and a Margarita or 3. Everyone went there once a week or so. I’m not sure what caused the change, but our last two visits will likely be our LAST2 visits. Food I guess was passable for being simple, not too flavorable Tex Mex. Margaritas were a complete and total rip off of some lightly green tinted, lightly flavored water — and if there was Tequila in it… we sure couldn’t tell. After all of these many, many years — we’re done. Hope you get back with the program El Rincon and some how the word gets around. But for now ADIOS old friend.

I gotta say… This is Tex-Mex at its most simplistic form. Do NOT expect much flavor. They do have quite the variety of selections, but the food is rather BLAH. Mamma Juanita’s a bit further east down Louetta is 1000x better. I had the«Burrito California» and my wife had the Poblano pepper. We give it a «meh». I will not return. But, the wait staff are very polite. I just, yeah… There are better options on pretty much every corner. :-/

I used to love the food at this place. .but I ate lunch there Friday and had a lunch special of chicken enchiladas with mole sauce with rice and beans. the beans were burnt. ugh…and so was the mole sauce. the rice and the salsa for the chips were the only thing edible on the plate. will probably not go back. for a long time… with so many Mexican joints in any given vicinity of Houston. .your food has to be top notch to stay in business. .this place has decided that just being a Mexican food joint with mediocre food is good enough! Eat at El Rincon at your own risk

We tried this place for the first time tonight. My boyfriend had the Alamo and loved it. The portions were great and for a good price. He however thought the salsa could be thicker I thought everything was just right. And for us being smokers we liked they had a smoking section. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Will definitely be coming back

I’ve been here plenty of times and would normally give it three stars all The time. However, I finally broke free of fajitas and my taco salad, and I tried the Mexican tacos! They were awesome, and they totally hit the spot! My group and I were definitely the loudest table there, and it was nice to have service that seemed very laid-back and relaxed. Once you explore. Around the menu, you’ll start to notice that there are definitely some signature items that are worth getting. The Mexican tacos are definitely a must try. You also should try the tilapia also. And by the way, I’ve heard that their margaritas are off the chain! That’s the only reason why my other friends go there

Great tex mex. Very good enchiladas. And the stuffed bell peppers are to die for. All the food here is great. Service can be a little slow some times but we still keep coming back for the food. And there is never a Waite. And the prices are very cheap!!! me and my wife get 2 combo dinners and got got for $ 20.00 !!!

Probably one of the most unappetizing places I’ve ever been to. Due to the fact that this is a smoking restaurant, chances are that you’ll end up smelling like a Vegas casino by the time you leave. They have a smoking section, which really means nothing because the entire restaurant reeks. The food is ok. Very cheesy and rich. The staff was friendly and my order did not take long to come out. In the end, I felt that I could get a better meal somewhere else and not have to worry about having to Febreze myself.

Wow does this place suck. This used to be a regular place for us. Not sure if the ownership changed or if they food service company changed to some crapass place like Sysco. Won’t be going here again. Chicken was precooked and prebagged. Even the kids couldn’t eat the cheese enchiladas. They might be saving money by using cheaper stuff but the income will make up for that. Done with this one, NEXT!

I have to give an update from my previous review… I came here on a Friday night and had the cheese enchiladas. They were the worst cheese enchiladas I have ever had! They were burnt black! Who in their right mind would look at a plate that had completely black enchiladas and say«These look delicious! The customer will love these for sure!» So I was a bit surprised they were served to me at all! The waiter dropped them off and then was never seen again… I will not be back! I think this was a sign to show me that my diet needs to start now!

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but I had the best enchiladas I’ve had in Houston at El Rincon last night. They were the Anaheim Enchiladas — an unusual concoction of fajita beef stuffed Anaheim chilies rolled up in tortillas and smothered in cheese and a sour cream sauce. The fajita meat was tender and flavorful, the anaheim chilies had the right level of spiciness and the sauce and cheese were delicious. We will be back and I may try other things, but right now I’m ready for more Anaheim Enchiladas!
