Been going to ricos for a long time, particularly have enjoyed their kids eat free Sundays with adult meal purchase. Ordered takeout, they messed up my order. The thing that made me the most upset was their overpriced queso container was only half full. Done with this place. Too many options out there.

My wife, son and I visited Rico’s on a Sunday evening for dinner. I ordered the three enchilada dinner with I believe one cheese, one chicken, and one beef enchilada. The food was served very hot(temperature) and was just the right amount after about two baskets of chips and salsa. The service was not bad, and the restaurant was not very crowded. Our waitress was very personable and always had a smile on her face. I think Rico’s is okay. It’s not on my favorites list of Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston, but it satisfied my need on this trip.

We stopped by Rico’s last night on a whim for date night, it was our second time dining with at Ricos. Started with a delicious Michelada and ordered the Shrimp Cocktail as an appetizer. The Cocktail sauce in our appetizer was a little too sweet for our taste so we just munched on chips and salsa. We ordered The Texas Grill(I think that’s what it’s called) as our entrée. Huge platter of chicken and beef fajitas, ribs, grilled shrimp, quail served with the fixings. It did not disappoint! It is also entirely too much food for two people, which our waiter warned us when we ordered, but I wanted leftovers. The service was pretty average but I was pleasantly surprised when our waiter removed the appetizer from our bill after noticing we hardly touched the Shrimp Cocktail. Overall, pretty average Tex-Mex with awesome Micheladas and family friendly atmosphere.

Came here last night because my husband and I wanted to try a new Mexican food spot. He found a Groupon online so we were excited to give it a try. We were seated immediately upon entrance and the same person who sat us took our order. He would ask us what we wanted and then almost immediately walk away before we could even finish– this happened when ordering drinks and again with food. We ordered fajitas for 2 which we thought would be way enough for two people. Usually we are able to split fajitas for one and still have leftovers. The fajitas came and the meat was flavorless. I don’t think I have ever had such bland Mexican food. There was just enough for my husband and I to make two small tacos each. I’m glad we had a Groupon for this meal, and I don’t think either of us will ever return.

Needed a cinco de mayo spot, me and my fiancé always pass rico’s and finally decided to try it out! We got seated fairly quick which is great, and as we sat down we saw this sign that said if we text this number we get $ 5.00 off our first visit we thought how cool is that so we did so! But, then it went down hill from there. It took them 15 min to even come to our table and ask us what we wanted too drink and another 15min too take our food order. We finally got our food after who know’s how long it was horrible and flavorless, i would never call this mexican food. It was a HUGE dissapointment The food was horrible and the service was just as bad. We didn’t even have a specific waiter, just honestly who walked by sadly. I would never recommend this place.

I came here to use my Groupon which was about to expire. I called and asked if they would take the Groupon on Easter, and the person was quite polite and said sure. This was a surprise based upon previous reviews, and I was glad that I came here today. We ordered the guacamole, but did not want to pay the $ 10 for table side service. instead, the waiter said that we can have a large guacamole for $ 5.99 that was prepared in the back. The guacamole was good, but it did have more avocado pulp than the actual fresh avocado. It was certainly comparable to guacamole in other restaurants, but if you are a guacamole purist, then you may want to go forward with the table-side preparation. My wife ordered the chicken soft tacos, and they were made with all white chicken that was cooked with ranchero sauce. I ordered the El Gallo plate with a chile relleno and 3 ounces of beef fajitas. The relleno was a bit oily for my taste, but my wife loved the dish. Since I really liked the chicken soft tacos, we switched plates and our meal was good. I received great service, and no problem with my Groupon use. I tipped 20 percent on the total original bill. My only complaint or criticism was that I believe the cook should have monitored the oil temperatures better as the food was a bit oily and apparently cooked at a lower temperature than needed.

My son chose to eat here for his 10th birthday celebration after school. Before his dad and I’s divorce, we would always let the kids pick a place to have family dinner and we continued it even after the divorce. My son eats here a few times with their paternal grandfather so anyways… Pros: Food was excellent, Not too crowded, food came out adequate timing, and my son had a great time. They brought out a gigantic mariachi sombrero and sang to him. Birthday dessert was on the house and was delicious. they put whip cream on his nose at the end of the song and he thought it was funny. and FREEICECREAM Cons: Some of the wait staff were rude and ignored us. Wouldn’t refill our waters or chips until realllllllly long time and seemed to have preferences to who to pay attention to and not to. They messed up our bill and had to get manager come out to fix it. Tip: Don’t forget to check in with Unilocal for coupon code

Rico’s is in our neighborhood and we support local businesses whenever we can. The first time we went there, everything was good. The next visit, just a few weeks later, not so good. I love flan, and ordered it that time. it tasted like the Jello version of flan, but it was grainy and watery, so that’s off my list. We wondered if it was just the cook that time, so we waited a few months and gave them another chance. I’ve waited a bit before I wrote my review because I wanted to cool off and try to be a bit more fair than I would have if I’d written it immediately after our last visit. Here goes: My husband ordered a seafood entrée. The seafood tasted like it had been freezer-burnt. He also asked for a Coke Zero and as with another reviewer, he was told that they don’t have it. I don’t like a lot of heat in my food, so I asked ahead of time whether the gravy on the cheese enchiladas was spicy and the waiter said no, it was very mild. NOT! I asked him to please bring me another order but not to put any sauce over the enchiladas. This time, they came with some type of cheese topping.(It wasn’t even as good as the cheese sauce you make at home with Velveeta and Ro-Tel tomatoes.) I ate one bite and again, too much heat. This time someone else came over — perhaps a manager — but since he didn’t tell us who he was, I’m not sure. I’d heard a comment before that and it went partly like«what does she expect, it’s a Mexican Restaurant.» They offered to make another batch but without topping(what I asked for) but by then, my husband had finished his entrée, so I told them no.(Lest you think I’m a total«wuss» I do enjoy the«milder» of the two hot sauces they usually put on the table, and I’ve never had this problem anywhere else.) I tried to get an ice cream as we were leaving, but there were no cones to be had. We’ve given Rico’s as many«chances» as they deserve and don’t plan to return.

I went with my family to try this place. even tho I read all the bad reviews, it was too late cause I had a groupon for it. we got seated pretty quick. one of the dishes we got was the fried platter I think, it was fried shrimp and fried talapia. shrimp was ok and the talapia tasted like they rolled it in dirt, pretty bad. the fajitas were ok. the free icecream machine, is bad and they took for ever to come and charge us so I had to go and pay. anywas, we will never go there again.

Big Tex Margarita was perfect. One of the best I have had. Jalapeño chicken was delicious Exceeded my expectations. Surprised they have negative reviews here(mostly Groupon people?).

Wasn’t very impressed with this place. First time was a bust. Watery queso and blah food. Tried it again just to give it a chance. Same thing. Won’t be heading back. At least the staff was great!

Absolutely flavorless. Horrible service. My Mother got food poisoning from her meal of chicken flautas. We waited 15 minutes to ask our waiter for the check and there were maybe 5 other tables in the whole restaurant, we didn’t even see him on the floor. We got up and had to wave our arms around to get someone to give us the check.

Went here because I bought the groupon, arrive and see the sign on the door that says no groupons on Friday. I spoke to the man up front who I think was the manager, he said oh ok I’ll let you use this but you need to check before you buy one next time. Um, no, you and groupon need to specify on YOUR voucher any disclaimers. Whatever. So we sit down and I order a coke zero. The server lady says«we don’t have that.» I said«hmm, it says you do on your menu» no response or explanation. Ok, I’ll just have a water. We order, food is just ok. Not very hot. Aside from taking our order, waiter does absolutely nothing, walks by and looks at us several times, but says nothing. I finally asked him for some more salsa. The couple behind us, who also had trouble using a groupon, stood up and walked over to another table and grabbed their own silverware. Maybe groupon users are treated as second class citizens here. Kind of defeats the purpose of participating in groupon, doesn’t it?

Chicken fajitas were ok; everything else was so-so. The refried beans were runny, and they up-charge 1.50 for cheese and 1.50 for sour cream(separately). Margarita was cheap(2.99/happy hour), but they weren’t anything worth being excited over. Overall, this place is an average to low-end Mexican restaurant. Most wait staff seemed friendly, though.

The food is good, but they don’t have a lot of selections for vegetarians. Service seems to depend on who is working, but I haven’t had a lot of problems.

Horrendous service and the food was cut rate. We came in near closing time, after the Nifty Fifty show in the Kroger parking lot(a must see if you’ve never been and like old cars). So anywho, we decide to go in for a later dinner. The restaurant was nearly empty and it still took us 15 minutes to get drinks. My sister ordered a top shelf margarita and it was, without a doubt, the worst margarita ever. I’m not sure if they had already put away the sweet and sour mix or what, but it was straight tequila(chheeeeeap tequila mind you… even though it was«top shelf») with a kiss of sprite!!! Quite the opposite of tasty — so much so that we sent it back. Then we all ordered our food. And when they brought it out I noted that my son didn’t get the queso we had ordered for him. So I asked the rude and slow waiter what the deal was, to which he answered that he forgot to tell me that they were OUTOFQUESO??? No tell me, what tex-mex restaurant runs out of queso? I’m pretty sure«we’re out of queso» translates to, we already cleaned the kitchen and threw it away for the night. So 45 minutes in, everyone has food except for my son, who was starving. I ordered cheese enchiladas, which I had one bit of before queso-gate, and left. They were terrible as well, and I hope my parents sent them back as well. All in all, you couldn’t pay me to return here. I’ll hit up McD’s across the street instead.
