Waited over 40 minutes without any explanation until asked. They couldn’t seat a party of 7, yet several sets of party of 5 and 2 were promptly seated. Even if it’s heavy traffic or busy, as a first come first served establishment, we should have gotten better attention for standing there while a full 3 sets of the line passed by my group by. To make things worse which led my group to leave, the manager came out and asked us to be patient… Lady, 40 minutes waiting is being patient! Wasted time and they didn’t even try to combine tables together. Only go to this location if it’s non rush or a small family… IHOP here we go. They never disappoint!

There are some good items on the menu. The locally sourced produce in some of their salads is quite good. This place is not cheap though. Conversely I think consistency and quality have gone down overall since this place opened many years ago. Not sure if Bob Giaimo is still directly involved with management but it doesnt seem like it. The place gets dirty and as I said the constancy is down a little. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

After my last review I received a Unilocal message from Silver Diner asking me to contact them about my review. I noticed that most anyone who left a critical review often got the same message. Well, I went ahead and emailed them as they asked. No response at all. This leads me to believe they send out those Unilocal«please contact us» messages publicly so people think they are following up on complaints, but they really don’t do so.

We need more of these all over the country! Check out their website! True leaders in the service industry! Absolutely incredible. My new favorite east coast place to eat! Great concept, amazing execution! Fabulous menu and service. I love the atmosphere of the diner feel with outstanding, delicious and creative menu options. I am interested in almost every item listed, which is unheard of! I’m coming back for dinner! Marquis was one of the best servers I’ve ever had, anywhere! Props man.

«Apathetic» would, upon reflecting on the two hours we just spent at Silver Diner, be the word that I would choose to select the staff of this Silver Diner. Let’s start with the good: the food was good. Silver Diner good. If you’ve eaten at one, you’ve eaten at them all. Good selection, reasonable prices, good options for kids. In fact, we frequent the one in Clarendon for all of those reasons. Lunch at the one in question today was as predicted and warm when it(eventually) arrived. The food was warm, the order was correct(though it didn’t come together), the prep was OK(tomato stems in the salad…) This garnered the singular star. Now, on to the not so good. We showed up at lunch time on a saturday with a party of 4 adults and 5 kids. Pretty good sized group, and we expected to wait for a table. Which we did. For 25 minutes. After being told they simply couldn’t help us(?), then being told they might be able to let us eat if we split our group into two. With hungry kids we conceded to that, luckily the manager eventually came by and said that there was a chance we could all sit together at a specific table they were cleaning! Huzzah! 15 minutes later it was cleaned and we sat. 15 more minutes later, arriving with a sneer, a waiter brought waters for most of the table and left. Another 6 – 8 minutes go by and he comes over asking if the kids wanted food. We gave him the order and we asked for another minute to decide on the adults’ order. He re-materialized 15 more minutes later when the kids’ food came out and we ordered. We don’t see him again for 25 minutes(no water refills, no nothing), until a portion of the remaining order comes out, 10 minutes after that, the rest comes. We don’t see him again to clear tables, ask how the food was, apologize for the wait, ask if we wanted dessert, refill water or even clear the long-sitting empty plates, until we’ve been done for some time. He dropped the check and didn’t look back. It was a long, LONG visit, not worth the effort, and frankly wasn’t worth pushing on the 110% guarantee as it would have prolonged an already painful visit. Lord knows why nobody cared, particularly the waiter. It was busy, but silver diner always is busy. We had kids, but they’re a kid friendly restaurant. Basic training seems to be lacking and perhaps the waiter constantly getting terrible tips will eventually convince him to find an industry that’s better for his. .. skills, but I won’t be back to find out when that happens. Hopefully I left enough tip that he can tip out the kitchen staff who put together a relatively good meal, and no more. Update: Following Emily asking me(below) to contact her, I did. .. to no response. So much for that glimmer of hope.

The food is good, but it always smells like a backed up sewer in this location; it’s especially horrendous when it rains. Otherwise, it’s as good as any other SD location, smells notwithstanding.

I am giving the stars for their food & not for their service. Service is always GREAT but food sucks and the SMELL as soon as you enter the restaurant is just unbelievable. The first table we sat on smelled like someone peed all over, we had to ask to be seated else where. I think they should have a different section for beers & alcohol. It could be the smell of beer mixed w/their nasty food creating this ugly smell. I am a picky eater and this place food is nasty and OVERPRICED. I ordered Greek salad & it had no taste to it, they used lettuce instead of spring mixed. I tried a bite off my friend’s pancakes & it was spungy. I wouldn’t go there again, place is nasty &STINKY yuck

The smell as soon as you enter this restaurant is the biggest turn off! It smells like someone mopped the entire restaurant with a dirty mop! We have been here couple times before and every time it smells like this! Today, the food was cold, not cooked well and caused me stomach issues. Never going back!

I like diners and breakfast foods but this is not the place to go for that craving! The place was dirty, the floor should have been cleaned up. The service was alright and so was the food. I had the paradise french toast and it was okay, nothing special. I have also had the Belgian waffles and it was very hard and dry.

Sucks. not a traditional diner. Nothing worse than trying to be something that you’re not. Growing up with diners in New Jersey for over 20 years this is far from it I don’t know what they’re doing here weird twisted vegetarian crap waste of my time

I am not that into the healthy eating phenomenon with free range, antibiotic free, locally sourced, kale and quinoa, etc. Especially for breakfast when I want real eggs and lots of cheese or a stuffed French toast. However silver diner does all of the above. They shame you a bit with that amazing menu into getting something healthy but they have plenty of other options too. Occasionally the healthy stuff is a bit mediocre like the southwestern type options even with buffalo meat seemed to be lacking in flavor. And the home fries were ok but needed more fat or flavor too. The smoothies are great, the kids menu is great, plus lots of interesting options. The French Toast coated in coconut was great, the egg-based choices were interesting and tasty. The service was good and quick and kept the busy line moving.

Normally, we love Silver Diner. My advice is to avoid this location. 10 minutes to get a drink at 1230 on a Monday when the restaurant was virtually empty. Every food item we ordered was a disappointment. The oranges on the salad had so much peel that they were inedible without a knife to peel them; the mushrooms on my burger were raw and my request for no mayo was ignored. The malt vinegar we asked for came at the end of the meal. The tablespoon of cole slaw was warm and miniscule, and the tartar sauce was only enough for one piece of the fish and chips. Even the coffee cup was dirty. Bottom line: avoid this one and hit the one near Potomac Mills instead.

I have been here a couple of times when I visit my college friend in Alexandria and am really happy it it’s here! Many more vegetarian than vegan options, but the vegan options they do have are yummy. I had the mango stir fry one time and the roasted veggie salad today. Both were great, particularly the roasted veggie salad. Brussel sprouts, squash, beets, and other yummy stuff. Wish there was a vegan breakfast and dessert option, but still good! Also the jukeboxes are fun and the service was good. Rewards program is also good, free entrée and dessert on your birthday!

This place is awesome, yet not what I expected. Me and the fam stopped here on a whim looking to try something new. We were expecting to walk out 10lbs heavier with greasy hamburgers, fries, and milk shakes to go. WELL, this is not the place for that. This diner is presented as an old school diner café(with the lil juke boxes at each table) but is full of healthy food. The menu is MASSIVE! Me and the wife took 15min going through all of it and trying to decide what to get. Every page of the menu looked and sounded amazing. I finally had to ask the waiter what he suggested. I got the Bison plate, and it was great! The Bison plate was full of flavor and all kinds of veggies and extra toppings. The presentation of all the plates was very nice and really added to the quality of the food and our experience. Our waiter(Jaime; I think that was his name) really helped push this place to FIVE stars. He was a younger guy, but was very well spoken and did a great job describing the history of the restaurant, where the food comes from, and the menu. You can mix and match all the food items, and plenty of Vegan, Gluten Free, and Vegetarian plates to choose from. Jaime engaged in a great conversation with us, and once he discovered we were new to the area he immediately began the up-sale! He was not pushy about it at all. The whole family got signed up for birthday notifications, and their rewards program. He even mentioned the Tuesday night kids event. Silver Diner setups activities for the kids(face painting, balloons, free dessert) while the grown up can eat! I will definitely come back here!

Came her twice a bit ago ms never reviewed. First time I had the bison burger and it was amazing. I would say order with cheese and toppings to give it the extra edge I got mine with Swiss, mushroom and caramelized onions. It was amazing, super lean and very tasty. The second time I got the Bison Huevos Rancheros and that is the photo. It was the perfect mix of sweet, salty and tangy. I’ve never in my life tasted something so rich, perfectly mixed with ingredients for breakfast and less than 14 a plate. This was a shocker and definitely a game changer. The service both times was phenomenal as well. Servers stayed on top of drink refills, needs of the table and were amazing to my four year old. I highly recommend coming to try the bison anything because it will change your life. Seriously… It will!

My family and I planned to celebrate my nephew’s 8th birthday by having breakfast before hitting to road and heading back to Rochester. Knowing that there are tons of restaurants to choose from in the DMV, I decided to narrow my search down to Springfield. When my brother mentioned Silver Diner, it was an automatic yes, because I’d already researched and read through the reviews of my fellow Unilocalers. All was in alignment with the universe… We arrived around noon on Sunday July 5th and the line for seating was through the door. The wait ended up being around 15 or 20 minutes. It moved at a steady pace and I was actually surprised to see how quickly and efficiently that the staff were able to accommodate such a large line of people. Their menu is amazing! They have a variety of vegetarian /gluten free options. They even had vegetarian sausage on the menu! I also loved how they had the calories listed beside each food item for those who are living a healthier lifestyle. Silver Diner also uses locally sourced food. Our party ordered a variety of different meals(some lunch and some breakfast) and we thoroughly enjoyed each one. I have posted photos of each. The icing on the cake was the manager named Jackie. She was celebrating her birthday on the same day as my nephew. She was so kind and generous. Jackie took special care to make sure that my nephew had the best birthday and even gave him a slice of birthday cake and a milkshake. The staff all came over to sing and celebrate. It was truly amazing and I’m grateful to have chosen Silver Diner to celebrate this special occasion. I love Silver Diner. I have been to diners far and wide and have never seen a diner near in comparison to this one. Visiting this restaurant will be a top priority when in the area.
