I don’t know if it’s because I only go through the drive through at midnight, but it always takes at least 20 minutes or more to get my milkshake. None the less my foods always been good.

My boyfriend practically lives at the Steak N Shake breakfast lunch and dinner. Everytime I ask him what kind of fast food he wants he could to say Steak N Shake. It has truly grown on me they offer a nice breakfast options while still doing fresher than McDonalds. Dinner options are also great at like the crispy burgers and the straw fries. Not to mention the shakes and cookies!

Is it bad that the cook came out of the bathroom with his gloves on? and then proceeded to make burgers? yuck. Will not go back.

Ok, this isn’t just the best Steak n Shake in Springfield… it’s the best period. I know because I worked here. I started a week after turning 16 and saw that we consistently rank in the top five in sales and customer satisfaction. But before you say I’m biased and anything along those lines, let me tell you I did everything from bussing tables, thousands of tables for dumb [sensored] waitressed that tipped me a couple bucks after 10 hours, to washing endless dishes when it was 90+ degrees outside(so… about 110+ inside w/no windows and the boiling hot water). I pretty much have every reason to hate this place(as I do the thought of working in any restaurant). Why the 5-stars? Why do I love it? We are talking about horseshoes here people! If you don’t know what those are, then do yourself a favor and find out. Go to Springfield for the State Fair or to rub Lincoln’s nose… I don’t care; just find an excuse to eat the wonderous creation that for some reason has failed to escape the 217 area code. I won’t try to explain what it is, since I won’t do it justice and it has several variations, according to taste. I will say two things: 1) if you don’t like cheese then stop reading now 2) Much like Brazil did with Pele and Canada tried to do with Gretzky, Illinois should declare the horseshoe a(national/)state treasure. Forget the wetlands… the horseshoe is truly something we must preserve for our future generations to experience. …mmm. Oh, what was I reviewing? Oh yeah, this place is great and everything on the menu is excellent. Stay away if you’re a health nut. Also, this place is great for after the bars. It’s kinda like a Denny’s(that’s where small town bumpkin folk go after the bars close at 2 am) only its food doesn’t suck and they’ll actually serve you if you’re colored. So, two pluses there. Go. Have a steakburger. Thank me later.

This is the best Steak n Shake in Springfield. They welcome visitors of all kinds. I’ve even been here as a rowdy teenager with 10 other rowdy teenagers, at 2 am, and the staff is very amenable. For some reason, their food is less greasy than the other SnS’s in town. Maybe they’re doing something special here?

I was born/raised in California but Springfield is my dads hometown. Steak and Shake to the midwest is like In n Out to California(actually, in n out is much better but different too). No matter what we ALWAYS have to go to steak and shake for my dad to get his home-town fix. Ever since I was a little girl… single steak burger, fries and a salad, or maybe a cup of chili. Chocolate shake… YUM. Then there was the year that the peanut butter shake came out! oh. my…dear! then there was the time I was in town and they just started the side by side shakes. ahh! I now eat nothing like I used to and the last few times I went to S&S I got a salad. It was your basic fast food salad. Not great but not bad either. I love the décor of S&S and the diner part of it but the reason it gets 5 stars is because a) the memories I have going here since I was a kid and b) the really nice man that has worked up front for as long as I can remember. Is his name Kip? I could be wrong on his name, but he always remembers my dad and I and we only go 2 times a year! He is always so friendly and has great business skills!

Interesting diner. Good burgers. Great fries. Love their shakes. They have decent chili too! They’re pretty fast, and the service is okay.

I love it all. Friendly service, great food, inexpensive, and many of them are 24 hours now. I always get the same thing, shame on me, but the Steakburger platter with chili, fries and a side of cheese sauce rocks my world. I love their chili, full of meat and a great gravy, and the cheese sauce is incredibly tasty and doesn’t congeal on you. The fries are thin, crisp, and just salty enough. I love the way the edges of the Steakburger are thin an a bit crisp and the fact that they cook them in front of you. Bonus points for the hot peppers in juice on the table for spicing things up. Food always arrives hot, and they are always happy to accommodate special orders. Shakes and other frozen beverages are always good, and they bring the extras to your table. I know this is technically fast food, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. It’s probably good I can only eat here when I’m traveling or I’d weigh about 300 pounds.
