must have been there on an «off» night as the bartenders were extremely rude! We sat at the bar but could not get good service and when I waved to try and get their attention, after sitting for 20 minutes with empty drink glasses in front of us, the response was «come on, don’t do that». service is usually much better.

They are hit and miss like anywhere, but they are more hit than miss. If u have an issue ask for Cindy the Mgr, she rocks and tries her best despite the odds … being from a server/​bartender/​rest. Mgr background. .she’s a keeper and the reason it is a great neighborhood bar/​pub.
The only reason I didn’t rate higher is u gotta knock my socks off

MY wife and i ate there one night about 9.45 the girl informed us the kitchen was closing at 10. she came back at 10.10 but was kind enough to bring some food we couldn’t eat any way. run fast, very fast

Such a friendly place! The beers are cold, the service is quick and everyone is friendly! It’s a great place!
Oh and the food is wonderful!

Not GROUPON friendly ! I called in advance on 7÷14÷15 to ensure there would be no Day/​Time conflict using the groupon? Employee on phone wasn’t familiar how groupon worked? Contacted her Mgr., called me back saying Groupon released some Groupons too soon, but come anyway, they’d honor it. In the end they were charging me their regular price for the meal? «Bait & Switch» When I pointed this out, the server discussed with Mgr. (who never came out to resolve ?) server came back and said the Mgr. was taking $ 1.00 off the bill. What a Rip ! So FYI, The food is mediocre at best and the only thing really being served up is the poor «Servers»! Don’t kill the messenger. I tipped him nicely, but will never go there again.

Went here a couple weeks ago for the first time, and last. Seated immediately. Our horseshoes came 45 minutes later and completely cold. We were forgotten about even though nobody else was in the dining area. The server came around once for refills. After about another 45 minutes after the meal we had to go to the bar to ask for the check since he never came back. The server was too busy taking shots with other customers to wait on us. Even standing at the bar, obviously annoyed we had to wait another 10 minutes for him to acknowledge us. I guess the way to get service is to buy servers drinks. Very unprofessional.

Plan to wait a very long time for your food. Came on Saturday and the place wasn’t that busy at all. It has taken over an hour so far and we still haven’t gotten it!

One of the best horseshoes I’ve had. Better than Darcy’s in my opinion. Large menu to choose from.

I have came to the restaurant and I have some mixed feelings about it… the service sometimes will be amazing, and other times I had to wait over 15 minutes for our waitress to come and get our drink order
The other thing that yo yo’s is the food proportions, sometimes it will be generous and other times it will be small.
However the food is really good, I love getting a mushroom pony shoe

Been there 3 times since they reopened, had the pizza twice. Staff is super friendly and the pizza was pretty good. Not the best but pretty good if you like a thin-​ish chewy pizza.

Been here twice. Each time ordered the burger medium and got it waaaaay well-​done. Bacon is good though. Price is fair.

We’ve always had good times and meals here. Never been to Darcies but have no reason to go there. Just glad when the grouchy old lady sold it…

Was pretty empty when we went not sure why, it was a wed eve. But place was nice and food was great.

This place is a Springfield staple. Superb food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff! Try their Shepard’s pie, Irish potatoes cakes and delicious horseshoes!

I am a vegetarian so finding places that have things I like, and things my fiancée likes, is a bit of a challenge. I always get the mushroom soup and mushroom sandwich since that’s really the only vegetarian friendly items on their menu. I absolutely love both items and I am not a fan of mushrooms! My fiancée loves their burgers, too!

Reopened and we tried again. Three different times because we each had a bad dinner on different occasions. The third time was bad for both of us.
We tried burgers twice. They are like dry hockey pucks. No flavor and hard even if you get them medium rare. They were dry but greasy all over the bun. Very odd. On the last time we had an Irish Monty and a point shoe. The monty had really doughy bread in it and the corned beef was tasteless. The pony shoe was buffalo chicken. Two chicken tenders eyes the chicken part. It was OK. Nothing outstanding.
Their chips have been overcooked. Tried the fries SBD they were fries.
Service was ok. But they were out of a lot of the beers. Kind of hard to get a flight if you are out of the craft beers.
The whole experience was underwhelming.

We wanted to go to Darcy’s but it had a 2 hour wait. No thanks. So we came here instead. This was my first experience with a horseshoe so I got the plain old horseshoe, which is a piece of Texas toast with a hamburger patty on it, covered in fries, and then smothered in cheese sauce. I have no complaints about the food at all — how can you argue with this concoction? Now that I am home in Chicago, I am kind of plotting the next trip to Springfield so we can have more horseshoes… They also have some pretty excellent beers, including some newer local brewers, like Rolling Meadows, which is nifty. My only real issue is that the service was slow. It was early afternoon and the place was not packed but it took quite a while to get drinks and to get our food and then an equal amount of time to get our food. Hopefully that improves as the food is tasty but slow service is kind of a deterrent.

Their version of Monte Cristo is cold. Disappointing. Chips are default side, and they tasted burned. Place was dead so server kept coming by. He had nothing else to do. Made me feel rushed. New building is nice!

I checked out The Barrelhead this past Wednesday after work. I told my co-​worker I wanted a burger and this is where we ended up. (Apparently The Barrelhead is the place to go in Springfield if you want a good burger)
I was not disappointed by the burger at all. I ordered a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger that was supposed to come with pepper jack cheese. I am pretty sure I got the Bacon Burger instead. The Bacon Burger was fantastic, cooked just right with fresh toppings and a good bun. It definitely lived up to the fame of The Barrelhead burger here in the Patch.
However, I was really hoping for that BBQ sauce and jack cheese on my burger which did not happen. This leads me to the point of the service. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the 40 different kinds of beers The Barrelhead offers on tap and also a sweet lady. Just not the best waitress.
Not only did she bring me the wrong burger but one time when I asked her for a glass of water she brought me another beer instead. Was I going to order another beer? Sure. Did I still have half of my last beer sitting in front of me? Yup. Was the beer she brought me lukewarm by the time I started drinking it? You betcha.
Any way the lackluster service is not enough to keep me away from The Barrelhead and I am hoping that next time I go in it will be better and I can update this review. The yummy burgers and casual atmosphere definitely make a meal at The Barrelhead worth it.

What a burger!!!
Went there for dinner tonight and the wife and I both ordered hamburger pony shoes. We waited a bit long for them to arrive given the fact the place was only a third full but that angst evaporated with the first bite. The patty was cooked exactly right, the cheese sauce was rich & flavorful and the steak fries were slightly crispy on the outside.
Service was good and our drinks were never empty. As an added bonus, our check was only $ 18.
