494 Chicken

Amazingness. This place has great chicken. Their chicken strips are delicious. There is something to their flavor, I can’t figure it out but it’s good.
Their regular fried chicken is also great. Real authentic.
Their onion rings are nice and crispy. Crunchy. The whole things breaks off clean. No strips of onion falling out. Just great stuff.
And it’s consistently the same every time.
Plus. Their staff is very friendly!

Will never order from this place anymore, the chicken is usually good, although the last order which took a ridiculous 90 minutes to arrive was not that good, OK, maybe an off day for the food, but the delivery wait times were getting longer and longer, tried to explain this to the person who answered the phone, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears and he seemed to not care at all, so instead of having a frequent customer who would have made future orders, they have lost my business for good, not good business sense I must say, you would think they see a customer who had used them several times and they would want to do their best to keep my business, I guess they don’t care about making money or keeping customers.

The food is delicious. Each dish out does the prior. Considering that they have free deliveries everywhere in Staten Island, the food is always punctual. Friendly service and reasonable prices. No wonder they’ve been in business more than 28 years. They are a definitely a thumbs up.

I ordered from the store for the first time. It’s delicious. The ribs are great. They have a big variety of side dishes and appetizers. It’s really good to order on rainy days and especially when you don’t feel like cooking!

Ordered last week for the first time and it definitely will not be the last. I ordered the BBQ chicken, it was flavorful, tender and juicy and not the least bit greasy. It had that real BBQ taste and aroma. My son ordered the chicken fingers and got fries with them and they were excellent. My wife ordered the roast chicken and it was delicious.!this will now be our go to take out chicken place.
As far as some criticism about the deliveries we told it would be between 45 to 60 minutes and it was there within 50 minutes. To those that complained about the delivery time I suggest you get a new battery for your watch.

Long wait for over cooked and dry roasted chicken. Save your time and money go else where.

Went here for this first time yesterday my dad and I liked it so much we went back for more today!!! Love the BBQ sauce on the chicken and the fried chicken is also so good as well as the mashed potatoes with a crazy generous amount of gravy! Not to keen on the corn bread but everything else was awesome! Cheap prices too!

Good and huge sizes and trays of chicken which is mostly what I went for in different flavors. They do offer lots of other foods like fries, pasta, pork, chicken, biscuits, etc. T here BBQ spare ribs were awesome and I loved it! They chicken wings were good too and I loved the bleu cheese dipping.
They also cater and do great party trays.
You will miss this place if you don’t look for it really good and make sure to know the address because its a small place on the corner of a plaza.
They deliver all over the island also so thats a plus!

Years ago, I used to do Movie reviews for a local paper, as well as in College & Grad school. One rule that I always made an effort to adhere to, was to look at each movie as what it was fundamentally attempting to be, & how did it compare with others in the same general grouping or genre.
What’s my point? Only that I have partaken of a myriad of fine dining experiences, & I do not want readers to think that I have gone over the deep end, giving a chicken delivery place four starts. The thing is that we order from them on SI, only them, when we are in a fried chicken & ribs at home eating mood, & there’s a reason for that. One has to rate them, comparing them to other places that are cut of similar cloth, & well, when compared to other chicken places on SI, they are the best (they are not like other places that just hang a banner over the place, saying they are the best.)
We have a Chicken Holiday right up the block from us that we will not go near (chicken greasy, flavorless, undersized & overpriced.)
494 Chicken is family run by a couple of brothers who never fail to give friendly, great, customer service. The chicken can be ordered many different ways (we like the skinless fried-​it takes just as good, without the extra fat content of the kin.) The batter is flavorful, the chicken always tastes fresh & they have coupons & good values all over the place. There are also quite a section of side dishes, not all of which are perfect, however, most of them are very good (my favorites are the sweet corn nibblers, macaroni salad, spinach, as well as the Mac. & Cheese. Even the corn bread and buns are good.
While we mostly order the chicken (in sizes that we have left overs for the next couple of days) their ribs are also very nice. A little fatty, but they come right off the bone & the sauce is excellent (they are are huge too!)
They deliver all the way out to our South Shore address, with no delivery charges & as I said, we always use a coupon!

The food here is outstanding. I normally get the fried chicken (to the chagrin of my waistline) but every now and then like to chnage things up. The chicken parm is good as well and their sides never fail in their neverending campaign to shock and awe.

The food took an hour to arrive and was not very good. Also — I ordered a ceaser salad but received a regular house salad with caeser dressing. NOT the same thing! I don’t eat tomatoes or cucumber so I had to throw it out. What a waste of food and money. I’m throwing out the menu as well.

The food was horrible. My girlfriend and I arrived to our hotel and were given the «choice» menus from nearby businesses that the front desk guy said were very good. We chose the 494 Chicken «hotline» menu because of the selection on their menu. I ordered fish and chips and broccoli and she ordered a burger with bacon and cheese sticks.
The broccoli and cheese sticks were the only decent thing we received. The fries were both burnt and still close to frozen — all in the same order. The fish was like what you would imagine a box of battered frozen fish fillets from a store would taste like after thawing-​refreezing-​thawing and cooking in old oil.
The burger that was supposed to have bacon on it did not and there was more bun than burger.
I also ended up extremely ill following this meal.
I am from a college town in Ohio and can eat a lot of crap, but this was the worst.
When I told the Hotel staff of this horrible place we had suggested another restaurant that delivered to the hotel we found to be delicious and reasonable. He threw the menu for it out.
I spent 5 hours in Soho and Little Italy hopping from toilet to toilet trying to get this crap out of me.
Avoid it– trust me.

Always had an issue with my delivery orders taking too long, but last night took the cake. The ribs where tough and my garlic potatoes where cold. I spent all morning throwing up, never again.

Ordered the chicken and rib dinner. ribs were dry and tough chicken was below standerds I used to love this place guess they changed mgmt in the past 4 years on the upside they were very nice and the rice pudding was great
