I ate here once, maybe 2 years ago. Disgusting. Inside was filthy. Tables hadn’t been wiped down in days, or even the crumbs removed. It’s not like they were busy, otherwise they would have had a good excuse. The workers there were either dope fiends or Forrest Gump competitors. I understand how difficult it must be to listen to someone’s order and then relay that back to a computer or cook, but I found it odd when I received a cheesesteak with nothing on it; after I ordered«cheese steak with peppers onions and mushrooms». Maybe the cheese steak girl thought I’d enjoy it more. I’m glad this place is closed. Originally, I wished it would have burned down, but realized that the owner would’ve received insurance money. I hope he went bankrupt and lives on the Staten Island ferry bench.

Thank god this dump finally closed. Thieves that serve drek are fucs. People are not as stupid as the owner of this place thought they were. What a dive. Surprised it lasted so long.

Update: the owner has now explained to me that this establishment has closed. Sorry for the confusion; Unilocal still has them as open. I hope that something good takes its place. Preferably a restaurant where the owner doesn’t call everyone who doesn’t like his food a «fat fuc». Disclaimer: I’ve never had an authentic Philly cheesesteak so I can’t speak to whether or not they’re similar to Philly ones. Thus, my review is geared to people like me who don’t have anything to compare this sandwich to. I just don’t think these cheesesteaks are that tasty. There’s not a lot of meat and I really dislike the bread, which is very soft. That could just be a preference thing because nothing makes me happier than a nice loaf of crusty Italian bread(again, I have no idea what type of bread authentic Philly ones are served on). I also don’t think these are a good value for your money. For the same amount I could get a huge Italian sandwich that makes two meals. And what’s up with the owner leaving such nasty comments on people’s reviews?! That’s just not classy!

I only do take out from here, but the Philly Cheese Steaks are really some of the best I’ve had on Staten Island. I had a coupon from a flier, actually there were 3 on the flier, and the cashier made it a point to cut out the one I could use and give the rest back to me. Thought that was really nice! They also have tons of fries to choose from! Potatoe, sweet potato, even zucchini. The list goes on.

Did a take out on Sunday and it was great got the boardwalk fries which are salt and vinegar on French fries they were great also then I ordered wings and they were great I got them crispy and they were good a little pricey for just 10 wings but they were huge ! And also I think the blue cheese was fresh and home made! Which is always a plus it was super chunky ! And I ordered a cheese steak to have as my lunch today and oh boy it was great also ! I will be be coming back it took a few mins from when I ordered to the time I got my phone but everything is made to order which I don’t mind waiting then ! I will be back to try other things from the menu !!!

Last Friday me and my sister took a ride to Shaggys for the first time, I was in need of a cheesesteak sand which, I’ve bean dying to go there for sometime now. When we get there we order the nine inch cheesesteak hoagie, we talking and waiting for our food, the husband and the wife are awesome, so the husband says you guys eat collard greens and were like yes, so he makes us this cheesesteak with collard greens and this four blend Italian cheese, it was freaking awesome, so we went back this past Friday to get the same, she had it, I had the ½ pound bacon cheeseburger with the same cheese, awesome, I’ll definitely be a regular there. So good, and the cheese fries where great too.

If you love going to places where you feel like you are set back a few decades(as far as the racial dividend), then you are in for a treat. The staff is not polite, you get treated like you are from another planet. They also proclaim to have one of the best cheese steaks in New York City; that my friends is a bold face lie!

Love Shaggy’s! the staff can be a bunch of meatheads but the food is always good. Try getting them to deliver a spaghetti taco for your kid and ask it not be assembled(otherwise they arrive a soggy sopping mess) and you’ll hear their brains lock up at such a simple request.

I had been to Shaggy’s a few times and the food was always good. Unfortunately, the service changed, the food changed(small portions). I ordered a 9″ cheesesteak but all I got was nine inches of bread with about three small pieces of steak and a whisper of cheese. I will not go back to Shaggy’s!

Went back yesterday for the first time since my previous post… What has really impressed me about this place always is the food… That is why I was disappointed the last time… I will say however this… We received an email from Billy inviting us back and he was very informative and generous with his input… We had sometime yesterday and ordered the philly’s with the plain bread and ordered it to go… Now it was explained to us that people didn’t like the plain bread because it gets soggy on delivery… Well, while it was soggy when we opened it I said to my gf that this is exactly how a philly should be! The food was amazing and again Billy and his team were great… We didn’t even mention to him that we had hiccups in the past when talking with him yesterday because we had the faith that it was going to be good… We both can’t wait to go back and eat there again… I almost ordered from them again today! lol

I don’t understand the bad reviews. I’ve ate here 3 days in a row. Billy is always nice & my food was delicious. The philly’s are better than ones I’ve had in Philadelphia! The menu is huge & I haven’t been disappointed yet, not to mention I LOVE the Baylon sodas :)

I’m surprised at all the bad reviews this place is receiving. I ate here a few days ago and really enjoyed my sandwich. Was it the best Cheesesteak I ever had? No, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good sandwich. Definitely the best Cheesesteak on Staten Island. I made my sandwich classic and just went with cheese whiz and onions. The sandwiches come in two sizes(6″ or 9″). I got the 9″ cause I was sharing with someone but to be perfectly honest I could have eaten the entire sandwich by myself. Half of it would not have been enough but I also ordered garlic fries so I was able to fill myself up. The food was yummy but so messy. Maybe I’m just a pig but I went through about 10 napkins.

Every time I go to this place I am amazed. I had the most awesome Sandwich. Service was extraordinary, fried eggplant, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers and Italian ham. The 20 for 40 deal is awesome…

It’s a cool little place. And yes, it’s not Philly. But it’s also the only place of it’s kind in the entire area. They do make a good effort, and they have a Boylan’s fountain soda machine! When’s the last time you saw that? If you’re like me and every once in a while you crave a philly, this place is worth a shot, go there once and see if you enjoy. It either satisfies your craving or it doesn’t.

Comparable to Philly? I don’t think so but definitely one of the better cheesesteaks in NYC. Make sure you get the cheesesteak with cheese wiz. Gets very messy but well worth it. cons– I ordered the Cheesesteak with onions an d mushrooms, order of fries and a drink and it came out to around $ 15. Not a big fan of spending over $ 10 for fastfood.

Rude staff, sub par delivery time, terrible food. Called for a delivery, the girl on the phone was beyond rude. Had to order over 20 bucks worth of food to be delivered 4 blocks away. Waited over an hour for a cold cheese steak, horrible onion rings, and frozen jalepeno poppers.

I disagree with some of the bad reviews I have seen here. I went to college in Phila. and lived there for six years. I am familiar with good and bad cheesesteaks in and out of Phila. Let me tell you, this cheesesteak is almost identical to the steaks at Pat’s King of Steaks(the inventor of the cheesesteak). The only difference I found was that more cheese whiz was used than at Pat’s., I think that is a good difference. The price is a bit higher. 7.95 vs 7.50. But doing business in Staten Island may cost more than in South Philly and ingredients must be transported further. Also, the steak may be a bit larger than at Pat’s. This is a family business and I think that anyone who knows cheesesteaks or wants to try the real Philly deal needs to make a trip to Shaggy’s. Order it with cheese whiz and take a bunch of napkins. Update July, 2012 Yesterday visited Shaggy’s and had a roast beef sandwich and a cheesesteak. The roast beef(ordered wet) was as good as what I get at Nick’s in South Philly(Jackson Street). That is as good as it gets. The cheesesteak was the best I have had here. This is also as good as it gets. The meat was tender and good tasting, the roll was authentic South Philly and the cheese whiz was all over the place, as I like it to be. Had to use many napkins but loved every bite. Thanks for such good cheesesteaks and roast beef outside of South Philly. Wish I was able to give more than five stars.

It’s worth it for me to update this review — the«fake» reviews have been flagged and removed(not sure if it’s by the business or Unilocal itself). I returned to eat here and I decided to go with the roast beef and Whiz instead of the steak. The roast beef was a lot tastier, and of higher quality. This place is a good go to place for that type of sandwich, and seeing as it’s a small business, hopefully it survives in the neighborhood.
