I’ve only ever done dine in, it’s a small restaurant with bottle beverages in a little fridge. Kind of like a step up from a take out place but not a full on sit down place, which is perfect for when your shot from work and just want to stuff your face with delicious food. My husband and I have gotten a few different dishes here and every one has been delcious. I like the lamb gyro salad, stuffed grape leaves and my guilty pleasure, sumac fries! Prices are fair, Around 8 dollars for a gyro sandwich, 10 for a lamb gyro salad.

The food here is ALWAYS amazing and fresh. I get the Greek salad with lamb & chicken a lot and always order falafel and the shawarma is delicious. The food usually takes a while to come but it’s always worth the wait & it’s totally cheap for the amount of food you get. I order from Sumac at few times a month for just dining in and take out. This place is a definite diamond in the rough

Small establishment. Came here with my friend who’s Egyptian and we had desserts. We had the Baklava and Kunafa. The Baklava was amazing and so was the Kunafa, I only wish it had the cheese in it. I had ordered a Turkish coffee thinking it was the same as «American» coffee, but I wasn’t a fan of it. We also smoked blue mist hookah. Not bad at all. I will definitely come back to pick up more desserts and order food here. I’m a huge fan of Kofta which I’m happy they serve that here! Can’t wait to try it.

Ive ordered pickup from this place several times and everytime the food is great. Ive only had their chicken and hummus and the chicken sharwarma. The chicken is grilled great and the hummus is flavorful and fresh and so is the tzatziki. I am definitely going back.

Being of Egyptian/Lebanese decent I came here expecting middle eastern cuisine(especially since they were playing Arabic music); however I experienced more of Pakistani and Indian flavors. Spices were overbearing taking away from the pleasure of the meal. Disappointed was an understatement. I have had better meats served from a halal truck than the lamb shawarma. The rice was a total fail! It was cooked with fennel, which is NOT middle eastern cuisine. The dolmas«grape leaves» were fair; although, I’m 95% sure it came from a can(not cool). I did have the fatoosh salad, which was eatable but not appetizing. It lacked the right flavors and the pita was made too thick and was over douched with oils. My husband ordered the mixed grill and the meats also seemed fair but dry and over seasoned(with the wrong seasonings). Hummus is normally expected to be smooth and flavorful and I found the hummus was bland and the consistency was very thick and chunky. Service was not bad; server was polite and did take back my meal when disappointed(although she appeared irritated). I don’t think this was a horrible experience I just would have rather spent my $ 52 dollars on Chinese or KFC!

Ordered dinner from here tonight. Everything was really fresh and delicious. I had a chicken pea salad, foul(a tomato and bean dish) and the vegetable salad. All pretty tasty and fresh for delivery. My husband had the beef kabob over ride and also really enjoyed it. The only negative is the $ 5 delivery free. Also just realized the menu says my salad should have come with hummus and tzatziki which it didn’t. Otherwise the food was really tasty. We’ll definitely order from here again next time we want Mediterranean.

Food is so good here that I had ordered two days in row. They’re reasonably priced, especially for lunch, the hummus and babaganoush are delicious and don’t forget to try their sumac fries– must eat at the restaurant so you’ll enjoy them better.

Claims to be Lebanese, Egyptian & Turkish base but definitely not it’s more of a Pakistani, Indian cuisine with an Arabic twist meaning very strong flavors curry like taste. I came across this place trying to look for info on the new Turkish Spot on Forest Ave 2 or 3 Brothers or something but decided to check this place out because the Turkish spot was not open for service yet we I settled. The food is not bad just in my opinion it’s not Mediterranean /Middle Eastern like they came

I have a serious addiction to the falafel sandwich at this place. Have tried the baba ganoush, the dolmas I love and the tahini is great. You have to try the lentil soup, perfect. I’m vegan and this place is my spot ! I come here w my friend who’s not vegan and she loves it too. Cute little place you could sit and eat but I mostly take out. Holding down the Mediterranean in SI for sure

Great spot to get a taste of authentic middle eastern dishes as well as Mediterranean dishes. The gyros and grape leaves are excellent and the chicken meal has some kick to it with nice mixture of herbs and spices and meshes nicely with sumac rice

Ordered from Sumac today through Grubhub based on the majority of reviews on here. The mixed reviews were right– some of the food is great, some not so much. (-1) Star right off the bat because my order took over an hour and 15 minutes from when it was placed. GH estimated 40 – 45 minutes. I live less than 2 miles from Sumac & most of what I ordered were cold, pre-made dips. Restaurant definitely lives up to its name, as the Turkish spice is heavily used. If you’ve never tasted Sumac, it’s really tart and used in place of lemon in a lot of middle eastern cuisine. That being said, the chef had a very heavy hand with it in all of the dishes I tasted today. Falafel– Too dry. Way too dry. Burnt breading on the outside. Couldn’t taste the inside because of that bitter, burnt flavor. Hummus– One of the better hummus(hummuses, hummi?) out of the Mediterranean and middle eastern restaurants on Staten Island. Babaganoush– This was actually delicious. Muhammara– Gross. Looked unappealing and I’m not sure what even was in it. Roasted Pepper & Walnut Dip– Tasted exactly like it sounds. I liked it. Tzatziki– Tasted good, but was really runny. Sumac Fries– Not bad. Soggy because of the tzatziki and feta on top. Should’ve probably been fried a little crispier to hold up. Pickles– Had an off-taste to them. Wasn’t a fan. Chicken Shwarma– Surprisingly good. Really large portion for the price. Overall, I WOULD order from Sumac again, if I wasn’t starving & was willing to wait forever. I would probably only get Hummus, Babaganoush, and the Chicken Shwarma as most of the other things I tried went straight in the garbage.

My roommates and I ordered from this restaurant through Seamless, and we will definitely not be ordering from there again. I wanted to order fries and Mediterranean pickles as sides for 2 gyros but misunderstood that wasn’t possible without being charged extra. so the guy called me and told me, and said they come with salad, so I said that was fine. What he DIDN’T tell me(until I called after getting the food to complain) was that he apparently meant the salad(aka lettuce) comes ON the gyro. That’s not a fucking salad. Also, we ordered one vegetable soup and one lentil, and got two lentil soups(which were relatively bland and overcooked — the lentils were nothing more than mush at the bottom of the container). The rice that came with 2 of our meals was bland and tasteless, the chicken shish kebab didn’t include any vegetables and was also bland, the rice in the stuffed grape leaves was overcooked and mushy, the«salad» that came with my meal was just shredded, wilted iceberg with small bits of cheap, unripe tomato and no dressing, and the tzatziki was blended(tzatziki should never be blended) and didn’t taste very good at all — unlike any tzatziki I’ve ever had. Overall, the meal was crap and I wish I’d never ordered from there.

I have ordered delivery and dined in here, and have always enjoyed my meal. Food is great, service is great. The fatoosh looks pricey on the menu but it’s totally worth it, especially if yr dining for 2 or more. You need to try the foul(pronounced«fool.») The ginger honey tea is also yum.

Delivery of Lamb Schawarma-2 orders and lentil soup. Came with fluffy yellow rice, fresh hummus and a shredded salad. All the food was amazing. We ordered at 6, the food came at 645 pm and it was still hot. Very satisfied with the quality of the lamb, perfectly seasoned and the taziki and dill sauce were a perfect match for it.

So good. RUN to this gem before it closes down. I had the gyro(lamb not chicken) and my friend had the gyro entrée. The meat was SOGOOD. BEST gyro I’ve ever had. Seasoned so well. It’s a really small spot with limited seating. Tight space. But if you want to do delivery, I’d highly recommend it. I think they have hookah at night as well.

Food is always fresh and of good quality. A recent misunderstanding nearly lost my office as a customer. After apologizing the owner came back and not only allowed us to keep the food, her returned every penny. It’s easy for a business or one of their workers to mess up but the way they rectify the situation says a lot about the place. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I’ve eaten from Sumac about 10 times and can say that 9 of ten were absolutely delicious. The food always taste and looks fresh, the prices aren’t too bad and the service is good. I usually order take out and the presentation is as if you eat there. I always order the falafels which are really good and the kofta sandwich is amazing! The mezza and mixed meat platters are great for sharing. If you’re curious the 1 time that I wouldn’t rank it high was due to undercooked beef.

From the outside looking in nothing about this place really causes it to stand out. I’ve been told by regular they never see people come in and out but theyre still staying busy so I assume they make a killing from delivery and within the first 15 minutes of being thereI was proven right; the phone didn’t stop ringing and the delivery kid was all over the place. After being seated our order was taken for appetizers and entre as well. We couldn’t figure out what the menu exactly was country wise it was Mediteranean but wasn’t country-specific. It seemed to cover Lebanon Syria and a lot of North African countries and also Greece. I asked the girl behind the counter where they hailed from and she said they were Egyptian. Our appetizer was lamb shawarma with fresh hummus with a fresh baked pita on the side. It was an ample portion for 2 people and I probably could have done with one more pita but cooler heads prevailed knowing that I ordered the mixed meat grill; I had high hopes. The hummus was freshly ground chickpeas I could tell cause it was a couple of chickpeas that had escaped the grinding it was garlicky lemony with some green herbs. The lamb itself was crispy and tender on the inside. the mixed meat grill consisted of lamb chops, minced meat kofta, grilled beef grilled chicken and shavings of lamb shawarma. It was served on a bed of yellow rice and a side salad of tomato cucumber and lettuce. The entrée itself was good for 2 people but I will probably order double just in case. There’s a nice selection of dessert and Mediterranean Teas. The service was good and kept coming back to us asking whether you were happy. This is definitely a smaller operation so be patient it’s definitely worth the while. There is a free delivery as well good to know. As a first time review of Sumac I would highly recommend this place. This is a mom-and-pop organization and support small business! stop nitpicking and enjoy a taste from a different part of the world
