This is my all time favorite Pupuseria in NoVA! The owner is super nice and the food is amazingly good! You really get great service and quality of the food is beyond good. My husband is from El Salvador and he loves it. Today we tried the sopa de Frijoles and omg it was BEYOND delicious!

Neighborhood Salvadoran restaurant worth a visit if you’re in the mood for some good carne asada or pupusas. Nothing spectacular but the food is good and the prices are reasonable. A great spot for a quick bite when you want home style cooking without breaking the bank.

Got the papusa and it was on point. But the best part? The plantain empanada! I could eat it without any filling, but it just adds an extra punch! Yummy horchata, too. Oh, and super cheap!

They steak tacos are delicious! Since my favorite Mexican Garden has closed I had no been able to find good steak tacos! My friend had the Carne Asada Platter for 9.95! It came with great rice & beans and salad!!! Next visit I had the papusas and they were GREAT too! They owner is from El Salvador but had a business in NYC. Check it out!

Unilocal – hello – this is Salvadoran food. This is a wonderful little family restaurant. The décor is plain, and you have to listen to soccer in Spanish if you eat there, but the food is amazing. I recommend: Tacos – chicken, steak, and tongue(yes, tongue – it’s a lot like filet mignon) Papusas — really, really good when fresh and hot(not so much the next day), and they come with amazing green spicy sauce and their own homemade«slaw»(think it’s called curtido). The one with the works is awesome. Tamales – simply delicious. I always thought tamales were dry balls of corn dough and hated them from Mexican restaurants. TRYTHESETAMALES! I get the chicken. Plain and simple, just a fantastic texture and mild, comforting taste. Eat with their green sauce, and add the habanero green or red sauce, and it’s now spicy and amazing. Atole – hot corn pudding in drink form. Weird, but very nice in the winter. They have lots of other things on the menu that I need to try, but I always get hung up on my craving for Papusas and Tamales. One day…

I stopped in here because I was buying a bowling ball and trying to kill some time while he drilled it. The place is very small, but nice and clean. The staff is very friendly and didn’t seem bothered when I had no idea what anything was on the menu and explained it. Everything looked delicious, but I’ve never had any El Salvadorian food. Since I’m a picky eater I chickened out on trying anything new so I went with something basic looking which was the pollo, but when I got it it looked a lot different than the picture, but not disappointing. I was served with a MASSIVE portion and it was very good. All of the veggies mixed in with the sauce and the chicken was very delicious. I feel bad because I nit picked through the chicken and left a lot of food left on my plate, but I was in a rush. One of the guys sitting near buy was eating a HUGE soup and it looked very good! I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a authentic filling meal for a good price.

So delicious! This is salvadorean home cooking at it’s best! Pupusas are delectable and the short rib bean soup was so deep and rich without it being greasy. Everything is made to order but it’s only a short wait. There are no kids meals but you can order single tacos or pupusas and it’s the perfect amount! The crazy corn on a stick was truly delicious! The place is clean, warm and has great food!

Really tasty food, friendly quick service, bright clean interior, nicely decorated. From the other reviews, I think they must have redecorated recently because it looks really nice now. I didn’t have high hopes from a strip-mall place, but I was really pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend! We had the chicken tacos and the shrimp with tomato.

Forget the pupusas. The Yucas!(The fried things that look like huge french fries for those that don’t know.) They come with this mayo-based jalapeño dipping sauce… which makes my heart sing. I’ve also encountered this place by mistake, when I go drop off my dry cleaning, since then I’ve been finding quite a bit of stuff to dry clean(cough). The carne asada(steak) sandwiches are awesome, it’s pretty simple, clean, central american food. Don’t go for the décor or the presentation, but definitely put it on your list as a delicious place to get well seasoned lunch from something that(finally) is not a chain!

Is it this place that makes me want to come to the next door $ 1.99 dry cleaning depot regularly? Or is it the dry cleaning that makes me want to come to this place regularly? While I don’t have the answer to this conundrum, I always look forward to dropping off dry cleaning because it gives me a chance to eat the excellent papusas at El Sabor. I have also eaten the tacos and they are good too. I find El Sabor much more appealing than the expensive Mexican Garden that is in adjoining strip mall. It is a great place to get a delicious, inexpensive meal. It is also very non-pretentious and I have found the hosts to be very friendly. I intend to try out some of their other dishes over time. Regular trips to the dry cleaners next door will ensure that :).

I had some of the Papusa without knowing what it was and it was just ok for me. They had other interessting looking dishes for which I might come back for. Still three stars for the food. The interior was not very appealing since it was a mixture of old and garden furniture. I am subtracting one star for that.

A small Salvadorian diner. ‘Sets’ run at around $ 8. Not bad, not great.
