Seek food elsewhere… The«grilled» cheese came out of a refrigerator, not buttered and placed in a panini maker for $ 5+. I did not realize it was possible to mess up grilled cheese. I stand corrected! The soup was mediocre at best. Oh, and if you do happen to ignore me and go here, please check out the amazing fireplace. Very disappointing.

I’ve always been a satisfied customer! However, I only order soups. I don’t live here anymore, but when I visit home I come here. I know the place has changed though.

Got the grilled cheese. For $ 5.50 I expect real cheese — not American. No butter. And the bread tastes dry and flavorless.

You guys… have got to be kidding… This isn’t a small family owned cute business with a person that loves soups making home made comfort food behind the counter(which is what we were expecting). The environment felt cold and deli like, with an awkward fake fireplace slapped right in the middle. The guy behind the counter totally loathed every customer walking through the door. My butternut squash soup had no texture, it was watery and thin. I ordered a hummus wrap, and to my horror the counter person pointed behind me to a pre-made refrigerated section. You guys really need to make things fresh here, especially things with hummus because hummus with vegetables sitting = sad soggy spinach. My boyfriend ordered a clam chowder that could be out shown by Campbells heated in a microwave and a grilled cheese that was made in a press with no butter and was dry and sad. We had such high hopes but were majorly disappointed. All this for about $ 30… mind boggling. You’re much better off going to whole foods for soup.

I was originally giving them a 3 star as I was having their clam chowder as I found it average along with the service. Then I bit into my three villigers wrap… it was not good. They put the chicken in the microwave right in front of you. Slother it in roasted peppers. I got it and it was all soggy with warm chicken and cold peppers. I would say go elsewhere.

whoever posted that picture of the man serving the mac and cheese… please tell me that you ask your waiters to wear gloves when bringing you your food. he wasn’t cooking the food by the looks of it. Stop being stuck up this place is amazing.

I’m going from two stars to one because quite frankly, they earned it. Now that the summer months are upon us I understand that a soup store won’t be the hottest destination in town. At the same time though that doesn’t give you and out to think you can open late and only serve half of the menu. I just stopped in after waiting 10 minutes after the opening time just to see they didn’t even have anything ready. I asked Mac n cheese and surprise! They are not serving it today. I’ve been wanting to give Soups on a good rating but I just really can’t. They just flat out suck. Prices are crazy, staff is rude, soup is always watery(it’s served from a bag! Not home made!) and they always open late and close very early. It’s almost like they don’t want to make money… Get your sh*t together Soups on!!!

I stopped by Soup’s On today and I must say that I wasn’t very impressed. I had ordered the seafood chowder, and the chowder had no substance. It was very watery, and did not have a chowder texture and also did not have any seafood! It was primarily liquid! Even more than that — when he rang me up it was $ 13 for a 16 Oz of soup and breadbowl! That’s way overpriced for what I received, and overpriced for a quick lunch that tasted bad. Even more, the place was so small and wasn’t very comfortable or spacious to eat there. Would not recommend!

Such a small and quaint place. We’ve watched it grow and we love the homemade reciepes. Cold or warm days I woud come in if passing by.

The New England clam chowder is damn good. Most of the seafood chowders are really good. The rest of the soups are pretty average. Mushy vegetables and mushy noodles. But they are all really expensive relative to what you are getting and you’ll have to beg them for more than 1 bag of oyster crackers. The wraps are just as average and overpriced and the staff isn’t friendly. So other than the clam chowder, which is amazing but $ 8 for a tiny cup, the rest of the soups and wraps are just average. Average food at exorbitant prices = 2 stars.

The beef stew I had was to die for! The staff was also really friendly and the dining area and storefront had a great atmosphere to it. The section of soups was awesome and it looks like they make numerous choices available daily. I travel in this area a ton and would recommend it for a nice lunch break.

While this is the first time I have eaten here and can’t compare it to the previous owners, the food was not nearly as bad as the recent reviews seemed to claim. In fact, it was not bad at all. I’d go again if I was in the area.

This place has changed owners, and since then has gone majorly downhill. Some of the soups are still ok, but nothing like what they used to be. You can tell the quality has gone down, and continues to get worse over time The grilled cheese is pre-made and comes stale looking out of the refrigerator, no thanks I’ll pass. The rolls are hard as rocks, don’t taste fresh or nice like the used to. The sandwiches are now pre-made and packaged in a cooler by the door, but are often soggy from sitting all day. If you ask them to make you a fresh one, they insist that you take one from the cooler. I am sorry to say that I haven’t been back in months, and am unwilling to try it again with so many places in the area serving good soup. I’m pretty heartbroken, this used to be one of my favorite places to grab lunch, I was here several times a week… not anymore :(

Apparently, I should have read Unilocal reviews before returning to this establishment, which was one of my favorite restaurants. I work at SBU, and loved the prospect of a hot, home-made soup with a fresh roll for lunch(or to bring home for dinner). The roll was hard as a rock and green as a shamrock. When I called to complain, he offered me a new roll if I would return for a replacement(really?). Sorry to say, this will be my LAST visit. There are too many excellent options around Stony Brook.

Just had chicken noodle soup there. Was ok, a bit fatty and only three little pieces of chicken in it 2 of which were like the rib me and too pink looking for me to eat. The bread was dry and covered with flour. Wish I spent my $ 5.50/12oz elsewhere

This is a shame… because I loved this place so much. However, last night my boyfriend and I ate there, and he got food poisoning from the chicken and dumpling soup. They also ran out of bread bowls. Also… the prices are kind of ridiculous. I can’t go back.

This place use to be so good. I ordered the new England clam chowder. It had a special price. I asked what is the special price the guy told me it’s the most expensive. Usually special price means it’s a good price. Special price here means you will pay more then normal. The soup tasted bland. It was not hot. Just a bit warm. I don’t know about you but I like my soup hot. The bread was dry and had so much flour on it that my tray looked like it sat out in the snow. So I would advise you to try else where for soup. I tried to think of something good to say about this place, but I can’t think of anything. It use to be amazing. Always over priced, but at least the food was good.

This place has changed owners and now besides soups offers different types of sandwiches and grill cheese. Always felt the soup was top notch but didn’t feel it this time, could be because there are only a few tables and people came in and staked claim making me have to eat in my freezing car. The grill cheese sandwich I did observe came out of the cold box already made, they added the bacon to it and grilled it. While it was yum, little turned off as it «appeared» to me to just be sitting on a paper plate and not wrapped in the fridge. Ordered the Beef Stew small size and it was the end of the barrel and about an inch shy from the top and it was about to be handed to me when I inquired if there was more. The bread also was not as I remember but maybe that was due to being in the car. Bottom line for the price it was worth it, I will revisit the place and my review to see if both can be better.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Soups On, been going there since I was a lowly undergrad and have some good memories of taking my soup down to the Stony Brook dock to eat it and generally be melancholy. The soup is always hot, I mean seriously hot temperature-wise and not salty at all; it makes you think you are eating something really good for you. Soup just makes everything better. Sadly, I have read that the soup is not homemade anymore? I remember seeing young guys with beards(before they were cool) slaving over the hot stove with a giant cauldron in years past. I truly hope they have not given up the gauntlet on making their own soup. Went there today and had a great bowl of chicken pot pie stew. It’s good. It’s pricey, but I happily shell over my $ 5.96 for twelve ounces of hearty soup with a roll, some oyster crackers and an apple on the side.

Soup’s On is adorable and delicious. Small place, go up to the counter, order your soup, and sit yourself. They offer 3 different sizes for each of the 10 soups of the day. You can get a bread bowl if you want. This hidden treasure has quickly become my boyfriend’s and my after-class lunch place. Butternut squash(sometimes made with apple?) in a bread bowl is my new winter staple. Wouldn’t recommend their lobster bisque, but among the other goodies were Italian Wedding and Chicken Noodle Soup. I have my doubts that all of these soups are homemade, but I really don’t care. They’re good, man. Yum.
