Terrible experience. Sunday lunch buffet. — the buffet counter itself had a foul smell — only 2 customers in peak hour — the tandoori chicken was dried out and nobody bothers to change it — mulligatawny soup looked like barf Above all this tall bald gentlemen who I think acted as a manager was least interested in how the food looked. Well dressed though and mechanical. The music was not Hindi or English, it was in a language nobody in the restaurant would have understood except the tall dude. I know this because he was singing along when he refilled our water. What a joker and what a mess of a restaurant. Disgusting and still paid $ 16 for the crappiest food of a lifetime. Obviously never going back.

I’m not a person to complain abt things .but I’m tempted to write this review . Worst thing that you could do is, go to this so called Indian restaurant. Worst food ever. Bad service. Rude and ridiculous people who runs this business .Food took for ever to come to table. A cold dosa came with a spoiled coconut chutney. When we complained abt the food. The manager got angry and try to tell that’s ok and can’t change the dosa. Weird experience in an restaurant. I wanted to give negative stars. But no way … It’s really sad to see an Indian restaurant in SUGARLAND like this. Pathetic !!!

NOSOAPINTHEBATHROOM! Went to Madras Pavilion and spoke with the owner. Wow. Talk about an arrogant sexist jerk. Goes on bragging about himself and his business and his many talents. Food is average and the bathrooms are FILTHY. There was no soap !!! You want to eat food from people who can’t wash their hands?

I went here for a private party that a family member was hosting. The grounds and parking lot are well kept and the view from the room we were in was good. The«lake» behind the building is just an artificial man made canal in the ground that was filled with water. Yes it looks better than if just grass had been there but I don’t understand why people go crazy for the fake lakes. Anyway, the party room was not well kept at all. The carpet had all sorts of stains and was straight up dirty. There was dried bubble gum in the carpet. The chairs had all sorts of dried food and beverage stains. By chairs I do not mean 2 or 3 of a group of 50+ chairs; more like 25−30% of the chairs were dirty. The baseboards in the room were also in really rough shape; scratches, paint chips, etc. All of these things combined make it look cheap and ghetto on the part of the people hosting the party. The only good thing about this place was the service from the waitstaff. They kept glasses filled and cleared plates quickly. It should be noted that they refilled water only. Any other drink they pretty much ignored for refills but this was probably under the direction of management. The thing I disliked the most was how cheap management was over one cup of coffee. Someone at my table wanted a cup so I requested a cup and was told if they gave one person coffee then other people would ask for coffee so they did not want me to «be embarrassed» when they told the guests that coffee was not included in the deal and they could buy it at an additional charge. That was a pretty insulting thing to say to not give me one cup of coffee for one guest when over $ 1000 had been spent for the party. I just bought a cup for just under $ 3 and the coffee was probably bad because the guest quit on it without drinking even half of the cup. They did not want me to be embarrassed when I did not want them to be so cheap about things and just directly say that coffee was not included and I could be purchased as an extra option. This was my first and last time going to this restaurant. There are many Indian food places on the more run down/poor areas along the SW Freeway on Hillcroft yet they have better service, cleaner facilities, and better food. Do not be fooled by the location of this business in the otherwise AAA grade of retail space in First Colony.

I wish they had better food and I could give them more stars since they are so conveniently located. I let the manager/owner know that the food was awful. Service wasn’t much better either. Just understaffed. I will never go again. Although their Kirby location had good food.

Madras Pavillion on Kirby was the first south Indian restaurant I felt comfortable taking my white friends to. Over the years they have expanded locations and widened their menu to include meat and north Indian fare. Unfortunately expansion has been painful and food quality has really taken a hit. I don’t really come here often anymore when there are better fine dining options for celebrations available, and cheaper/more authentic options for when I just want good food(Bhalaji Bhavan for example). If you do come to Madras pavillion stick to the south Indian side of the menu, focusing on dosas, uttupam, and idly. Avoid the biryani and basically anything that involves meat. They don’t really know how to prepare it, meaning that the chicken can be rubbery for the chicken tikka.

Ordered a chicken biriyani that cost me a lot and it was pretty substandard. Not value for money. There are many other better indian restaurants around that area and on 59 south.

I went for a late lunch on a weekday, and I was pleased to see the entire buffet was available and was still very well stocked and hot. There was nothing that was too different than an average Indian food buffet and I was a little disappointed that such a large restaurant only has about 4 vegetable and 3 meat dishes. That being said, they were all very good. I will say the service was a 5! There were only guest at 2 tables, the staff was extremely attentive and never made me feel like I was imposing after a busy lunch rush. I am not sure if this is a place I would choose to go again, but if someone suggested it I’d be on board.

Was a huge fan of this place until I saw a roach crawling on the buffet table 2 inches from all the food. Couldn’t finish my lunch and have not had the desire to eat there since. Really a shame because I enjoyed the lunch buffet.

I was excited to have rawa masala dost but it turned out to be really disappointing, chatni was more of water than some chatni plus the dosa was very oily. Chhole bhature was good. Te bhatura was of the size of a big plate. Worth trying.

This is by far the worst Indian place I’ve eaten at, anywhere. I went for lunch for the buffet. The food was mediocre. The service was nonexistent. I never received a basket of naan, which is usually included in a buffet. And I had to ask for something to drink and for my check. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but I had such a poor experience that I would never go back to try again.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the token Indian celebration venue in Houston. If you own a sari or are related to someone who does in Houston, you either have been or heard about this place. Known for affordable Indian food, many venture here for graduations, weddings, anniversaries, etc. The menu varies with quite a few vegetarian options and they taste fairly good. Honestly if you come here there is nothing on the menu that is worth mentioning because everything is relatively good, but nothing 5-star. What you’ll like is: — The atmosphere(very nice waiters/bartenders + the owner is always there). — The variety — The bold flavors of the items(you will definitely get a kick per bite) Overall, a nice place to try once and get a feel of true vegetarian indian food.

Never answer the phone. The wait staff literally could be by the phone not doing anything and will not answer. I saw this multiple times, in fact I even called while in the restaurant and they did not answer. However love the food. Last few times its been awesome. I hope management sees this and tries to improve service, I think you have wonderful food.

For all the reviews, certificates and awards that line the corridor inside Madras Pavillion, I was quite disappointed with the food. I’m no Indian food connoisseur but I think I can at least tell the difference between good vs. mediocre Indian food. After decades of living in Sugar Land, and many brown friend’s graduation parties later, I decided to go to Madras Pavillion for lunch after not having been there for about 6 years. I thought that this place must be good since it’s been a stable establishment off Hwy6 for so many years. I was craving lots of different curries, lentils, creamed spinach and other«staple» Indian buffet foods but I was saddened to see that their lunch buffet was very limited. I mean… there’s variety, but not much. The foods that I tried were ok, but I’ve had better at another Indian restaurant down the road in Town Center. Their two redeeming factors were that the owner/manager lady was very kind and attentive. She had the chef in the back make some sort of potato stuffed bread for us to try free of charge. Also, for lunch, it just so happened that Madras Pavillion had a lunch special where you could buy one lunch and get the other half off. However, I would have liked much more selection in food. Flavors were just ok.

The first time I went here was with my mom. We were on our way from Target and were craving some authentic Indian food and saw this place. We immediately decided to give it a try. It was pretty empty, and the owner herself showed us to our seats. There was an empty buffet, and the owner explained that they were having issues with it so they had to get rid of it. She gave us the menu, and I was disappointed to find out that it was simply a sheet of paper! Not laminated or anything, just a sheet of paper. Anyways. I ended up getting a vegetarian platter of some sort. I don’t really remember what I got, but I know that it had a dosa, some sambar, and something else. The food was pretty good, but not mind blowing or anything. The meal comes with a desert(I don’t remember if there’s a choice), but we ended up with a fruit cup. It was the most pathetic looking fruit cup I’ve ever seen. Apples that were on the verge of browning were not the prettiest sight. When we were waiting for the check, I decided to look up for some reason. The ceiling was GROSS. I couldn’t believe that we were sitting below an open vent that had tons spider webs and lint. We were so disgusted. The owner saw our reaction and told us they’re going to take care of it soon. That alone makes me never want to return. The thought of it makes me all squirmy.

I am addicted to the batura channa! Came here last night with 4 other friends. We ordered way too much food but it was all great. I come here frequently when I want good lamb chops in Sugar Land without having to drive into Hillcroft. Barrah kabab is delicious. The lamb is perfectly seasoned and tender. I have lamb chops with naan and sag paneer. All pretty good for the suburbs. The tandoori and naan do not have the same charred smokiness as other restaurants that cook with tandoori ovens. But pretty tasty and consistent food. Other good dishes that Madras offers: — goat curry: meaty chunks that are not too fatty. Tasty! — chicken tikka masala: standard fare; good not great; white meat and not dark just the way I prefer — masala dosa: tasty but not too crispy — sambar and idly: sambar is made with zucchini. Would like drumsticks. I would skip samosa. Good place for tasty and consistent food. Owners are also great and offer great service!

It really was just A-OK. Not that I’m the expert on Indian food, but there weren’t too many choices, flavors were decent, and service a little spotty. The naan was nice and warm as always, but I wish the server had told us we could have ordered the dosa too. We also had to ask 4 different people for more naan. You’d think they’d have it ready all the time. I think the best dish was the Spinach/Cheese paneer that I always get at Indian restaurants. Nothing else really stood out.

If you are a brown kid in the SL, you have visited this place more than you have the temple, maybe for grad parties or anniversaries or retirement parties, etc., etc. I was at Madras Pavilion for an anniversary party. The party room we were in, meant for 100, was PACKED. Not exactly spatially equipped for exuberant bhangra, but still with enough«stage» area for the various Bollywood-themed song and dance performances of the night. The table settings and seat covers were all silver and red-themed — really well done. As many have noted here, MP, while originally vegetarian, does serve meat, but I’m not sure it’s their forte. The fish was a bit on the dry side and could have used more flavor. And the butter chicken, while more flavorful, didn’t pack enough punch. The chicken tikka they served for appetizers, however, was much better and just the right tenderness. Their vegetarian dishes were also a mixed lot. The kofta and cauliflower dishes were quite good, but the mushroom and pea curry as well as the tomatoey bell pepper/pea curry seemed a bit spice and veggie-deprived. Also, I’m not sure it was a great idea to split the samosas in half, because it meant that the little veggie clump inside pathetically rolled out of its dissected triangular pastry shell as soon as it was on the plate. As for dessert, the adorably miniature gulab jamun were pretty good and not overly syrupy. I didn’t try the gajar(carrot) halva, but others did agree it was good. One advantage of being in the suburbs — this MP definitely has enough parking. Enough, even, that my 9 fellow amateur dancers and I could practice our number in the parking lot and not worry about periodically stopping to let traffic through. Overall, I can see why MP is the old standby for Indian community gatherings. Despite the varied success of its dishes, it is very convenient(and familiar) for locals and has enough hall space, has a reliable staff, and is properly equipped for private parties. I’d be surprised if I’m not back here in the next year… yes, I really do visit the temple that infrequently.

Madras Pavillion is a Texas based Indian chain restaurant that’s bringing a taste of India to parts of Texas that might not have a chance to try authentic South Indian food. I only have a chance to try their lunch buffet so I will comment on the lunch experience at Madras Pavillion. First of all, the restaurant is pretty big and we went there during a late lunch, the restaurant wasn’t pack at all. In fact, there was just a few other customers including my group of co-workers. Don’t expect this Indian restaurant lunch buffet be something like your typical Chinese buffet where there’s rows and rows of «variety» of Chinese /American dishes. The only up-side is the dosa(fermented crêpe made from rice and black lentils) that they would make on the order during buffet time. When we went there, the waiter did not mention it unless you brought it up and they will make it and bring it out. Be sure to know that the yogurts at the end of the buffet line is not your typical American sweet yogurt. These are the real yogurt where the flavor is sour as it’s pretty much just spoiled dairy, in a good way. Over all, it’s a decent Indian restaurant that offers decent authentic Indian cuisine for a fair price. But this wouldn’t be my first of choice to take someone who wants a great Indian food cuisine experience.
