What a great find! Looked busy every time we drove by so thought we would try something more low key like burgers. Whatever you do, get the garlic roasted blue cheese sauce! Burgers done perfectly to order. Purcell was a great server, friendly and quick. All the staff were attentive and friendly. Loved the Edgar Allen Poe theme, lots of keepsakes and photos to ogle at. Good times!

So packed it was hard to thoroughly enjoy. Which is great for business but trying to cram more people in for the sake of more money instead of the whole dining experience… But… The food was great. The portions are large. The staff, although stretched, were great. Loved the flavors, loved the decorum and even bought the shirt.

If you find yourself hungry on Sullivan’s Island, go to Poe’s. If you find yourself thirsty on Sullivan’s Island, go to Poe’s. If you find yourself not hungry on Sullivan’s Island, go to Poe’s and you will become hungry. There is always a line at Poe’s, especially during the summer, but the line moves fast. Plus that’s a great sign that there’s always a line. The staff at Poe’s is always super friendly and attentive even though there are people everywhere. The atmosphere here is awesome too, the Poe decorations are pretty interesting and add a cool feel to the place. The bar opens up to the deck and there is seating outside which gives you plenty of options of seating. Drinks: I recommend trying a Moscow Mule here, they have the copper cups and the price is reasonable for them. If you’re in the mood for some beer, they have some great local craft beer options. Food: Everything is delicious. My favorites are the buffalo shrimp salad, the fish tacos and all of the burgers. Ohh, and the nachos are a great starter. Also, get a side of fries, they may be my favorite thing at this restaurant. And add a fry sauce if you’re in the mood for something different than ketchup! Poe’s is a must if you are in the area!

Let’s talk about the good. Hip atmosphere if you don’t have to drag kids into the mix. The bar has stool seating, long table seating and couch/chair seating next to a fireplace. Pretty cool. Patio and outdoor seating is also available, better for families with kids. Crab cake burger is good. Pretty good beer selection but the prices are average. This joint is also a skip away from the beach if a walk after food is in order. Wait staff seem cool. Manager of the joint is also cool. People were waiting to sit but he didn’t rush us out after we paid so I could finish my brew. We rapped about St. Louis baseball. The bad. Food is waaaaay average for kids, as well as overpriced. How could fries come out cold? It happens. Parking is awful. 7 car lot and fend for street parking which usually turns into a 3 block hike. Waiting for an open table is a «on your honor system» with stalkers ready to leap. For f – k sake, take peoples names down and sit them as people leave. Nothing like having a line of people just lurking in the bar ready to pounce at any given sign of others exiting. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a beeper, grab a brew, and go outside knowing someone has your back when you’re next in line for a seat? And seating is crowded in the back eating area. So I feel Poe’s is more of a single persons getaway. A place where you have zero agenda and time to stand around. This is not what families want to do even though you can probably make it work, it’s difficult. I’d go again with bros.

Sat at the bar @ Poe’s on Jan 1st as the Polar Bear Plunge was gearing up. I loved the costumes and the energy that day of people hanging out at Poe’s and other places on Sullivan’s Island. Poe’s is always a place we go when in Charleston. I love the music they play… Plus — the drinks are good(bring on the bloody’s, mimosas and beer), the hamburgers are good — really, it’s all good! Poe’s makes me feel nostalgic in a way that is difficult for me to explain. Poe’s reminds me of a college bar but for all ages. Keep doing what you are doing.

I know everyone gives this place great reviews, but I think it’s unimpressive. I really do! Every time I go, it’s crowded and near impossible to find seats, and the food isn’t worth the wait. However, I’ve only been three times and during the busy vacation season, so I might be wrong about how it is as a whole. I don’t want to give it another chance.

We come here a lot after a grueling day relaxing on the beach. It can get packed, so expect to wait, but the turnover is usually fast. They have about 20 beers on tap, including some of the local breweries. Food comes out fast. We got the chili cheese fries as an appetizer… SOGOOD. I couldn’t stop eating these and they made my normal hand-cut fries seem sub par when I got my main dish. I had the chicken instead of a burger, and it had a great seasoning on it. It was a lot tastier than I expected. I have had their burgers before, but it’s been so long that I can’t comment on them. If you’re on Sullivan’s island, check out Poe’s. Just make sure that you’re okay with walls covered floor-to-ceiling with pictures of Edgar Allen Poe.

This place is obviously amazing. The cheesy french fries are the best appetizer, and you can get any of their burgers with a veggie patty. Any place that caters to us vegetarians is okay by me! The parking is almost nonexistent so be prepared to take a couple laps around the block or park on the street, but it’s totally worth it. My recommendation(besides the cheese fries) is the AMONTILLADO — Guacamole, Jalapeño Jack Cheese, Pico de Gallo & Chipotle Sour Cream(with veggie patty). Perfect.

The burgers here really are amazing. It also is an excellent place to sit outside and people watch. The starving artist is a bun free burger and tastes amazing with their house made goat cheese pepper spread. The fries are also delicious. It truly was one of the better burgers I have had in my life.

Such a cool atmosphere, and the food was great! My husband and I stopped here before heading to the beach one Saturday and were seated right away(granted, we arrived for an early lunch around 11:30am — we had heard it gets pretty busy around the lunch hour). We split the Black Cat burger and the Sleeper. Both were cooked perfectly, and the buffalo fried shrimp on the Sleeper burger? Amazing! Can’t wait to go back!

I certainly didn’t object when my hub suggested that we catch a(very) late lunch at Poe’s. We arrived in time to still get a parking spot on the(free) lot, opted to eat inside(it was so humid … I didn’t need another bad hair day) and chose a nice table away from the ‘energetic’ and quickly filling bar area. We both ordered the Manhattan Fish Chowder to start. Wow … the huge portion arrived, piping hot and loaded with local fish. A real deal at $ 5.75 … and quite tasty! My hub ordered a Goldbug Plus Burger with Roasted Garlic Bleu Cheese($ 10.75). Of course, it was perfect … and so was the generous side of fries … hot, crispy and fresh. I could not believe the size of my ‘Mixed Greens with Grilled Chicken Salad($ 11.00).’ The huge bowl arrived, loaded with crisp applewood bacon, avocado, hard boiled egg, bleu cheese crumbles and grape tomatoes. It was served with a pimento cheese croûton(which was actually half a piece of toast topped with melted pimento cheese) and a light, yummy tomato vinaigrette. Throw in friendly servers, well blended rum and Diet Cokes and a few ice cold Yuenglings and we left very full and very happy.

Great place to chill on a Sunday Funday. It was a little confusing thinking that you should wait for someone to sit you at a table but as people(ie employees) walk by and see people standing they just say, «Seat yourself and we’ll be right with you.» We sat outside since it was such a beautiful day. I thought we’d be forgotten. They were pretty quick to get out to us. 20 beers on tap so there’s plenty to choose from. We got a burger and fries with nachos. There’s no surprise that everything we had was delicious. The Amontillado burger was perfectluy cooked. The combo of flavors of guacamole, jalapeño jack cheese, pico de gallo & chipotle sour cream was insane. There’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Guac but I’m seriously rethinking this. The nachos tastes like the burger but with no guac and with drunken chilli on top. This thing was very salty once we got to the bottom of the plate.
