I come to this restaurant because it is very conveniently located to my apartment. However, I feel like I’m settling every time I do. There are much better sushi locations in the neighborhood. Oki doesn’t have the best sushi roll choices and the fish doesn’t always taste fresh. I order the asparagus roll often and sometimes that is a hit or miss as well. The asparagus sometimes has a weird after taste like it is old. There’s a chance I’ll be back, but I’d rather walk the extra few blocks and go else where.

I ate almost everything in this restaurent menu. Everything are good but just only one thing, your sashimi are too thin and short slide. Another menu is still awesome

It’s sad to see all bad reviews. I agree that sushi used to be much better. And that’s the reason why I don’t come here as often as I used to. But I like this place because it’s small and quite, and waitresses are very polite and nice.

Ordered the Oki Roll and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. The Oki roll which was suppose to be spicy tempura tasted like it was canned tuna and was not in the least bit spicy. The shrimp tempura was extremely soggy which is strange because the food came pretty quickly making me think it was not made to order. The ONLY reason I am giving it two stars instead of one is because it came so quickly. Would not order from here again.

I have been going to and ordering from Oki for over 10 years(used to live in Sunnyside, now in Woodside and go there frequently or pick up takeout like tonight). I had never looked at their reviews before, but since I was looking for an online menu just now I came across them. I don’t quite understand the bad reviews. I get excellent service, greeted with smiles, and in 10 years I have only had 1(ONE!) sub-par quality food experience, other than that is has always been excellent. I must have ordered from them or eaten there over 100 times total over the last 10 years.

Worst sushi on the planet. No exaggeration. And, their spicy mayo is some gross thousand island-esk concoction.

The food at this place is REVOLTING. Do not eat or order here. If you thought Chinese take out was gross, wait until you get something from this hell hole. I ordered the deep fried tofu appetizer and it was not the description. They use soft tofu, coated in some sugary glaze, pan fried and topped with fish flakes(katsuobushi) that obviously come from a package. You would expect something that was actually deep fried, using super firm tofu, and no fish. I took two bites and threw it out. The miso ramen is barf-immediately-disgusting with its heavy reliance on EGGS. Use MISO when you make MISORAMEN. Egg noodles, topped with a poached egg, in a miso broth that had been stained by egg whites. The tasteless seaweed was of course from a package. I had some of the broth and then threw everything else out. A few months ago I had ordered the tofu teriyaki lunch. I got immensely sick after with multiple bowel movements. I gave this place a second chance, and I threw out 95% of the food.

Dragon roll, looks nice and taste fine. White and red roll, salty, the tempura was soggy and a lot of crust on it. The fish wrapped around it was tiny pieces. We left more than half the roll on the plate. The sushi & sashimi combo was nice looking and the fish tasted fresh. Fun to serve it on a wooden boat plate. The salad and soup was also ok. Service was fast and attentive. Nice staff. :)

The sushi is serviceable, especially during half price sushi happy hours. Some of the rolls are better than others. Even though it’s not amazing, I will continue to go here because it is close to home, reasonably priced, and there is never a wait for a table.

Food is just okay, but a tad overpriced for its quality and quantity

Oki Japanese is a restaurant you go on a Tuesday night after a hard day’s work and no motivation to cook at home. Oki has reasonable prices, no wait ever, friendly attentive service, and a peaceful atmosphere. Not a great place for a sushi date unless it’s with a girl with no potential. I suggest you order the Bento Box! You cannot go wrong by ordering the chicken or beef terriyaki bento box. The price and portions are different for lunch and dinner, dinner slightly more expensive, but with larger portions. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

this is my «oh geez i’m so hungry and i want sushi but i don’t want to wait long» place bauce it is literally downstairs from my apartment. The place almost never has people in it, maybe a table or 2. the hours are very strange(like 4−10pm) and the food is… ok…like other reviews have said: it’s a Japanese place run by Chinese. rude wait staff too, the one time i did have dinner there with a friend they couldn’t wait for us to leave and gave us our check when our appetizers arrived. There’s a bunch of other places to go to in the area, so go there.

I had the miso soup and two rolls of shrimp tempura. The soup was pretty decent but the rolls were extremely spicy. I usually eat very spicy but their spicy mayo was too much, maybe they put too much sriracha. The overall quality is ok, can’t expect much for those prices. What disturbed me was that they charged me 2 $ for 2ml of mayo.-bad mayo anyway :(

Yuck. Just ordered delivery from here. Not good quality. Won’t order again. The salad was turning brown, the rice on the sushi was flavorless, the fish was not good quality, and the soy sauce it came with was overly salty. Had to throw away most of the food because it was so yucky.

If you’re DYING for sushi and can’t make it out of the Woodside/Sunnyside area, it will do. The sushi is not amazing but it’s better than what I’ve had other places in the neighborhood. The salad has one of the better ginger dressings that I’ve had and is reasonably priced. The shrimp shumai is another great option, too. I just wouldn’t go too crazy here with«eclectic» rolls. The place lacks serious authenticity(and by that I mean I don’t think there’s a Japanese bone in the establishment), so going out on a limb just doesn’t seem like a good digestive choice to me. I know a lot of people like the 50% off sushi special, but 50% off of raw fish scares me. The staff sucks. Watch your credit card statement when you get it. The owner has been known to add to tips. 3÷18÷2013UPDATE: Not getting sushi here again unless it’s shrimp(cooked). Sushi last night smelled fishy… yet«fortunately» I couldn’t taste it due to the massive amount of sauce in each and every roll. Mushy and mayonnaise full. Gag.

Oki is one of those places that I would really like to like as it’s location is synonymous with where I work and relatively convenient to where I live. unfortunately, I just can’t. When I first moved to Woodside over a year ago, Oki was the first sushi place I decided to try. I ordered the Sashimi entrée while sitting at the sushi bar. The staff pretty much ignored me. I had ordered a beer and a glass of water, and I tend to enjoy a lot of water when eating sushi. Not once did a get a refill. When the entrée finally came out, the sushi chefs walked away and I was ignored until I was done and the check was put in front of me. I still left a generous tip based on that service. Since that experience, I’ve ordered from there time to time just because of the convenience factor, hoping my experience would be better. The food is always so-so, but it’s the little things that get to me. My most recent experience this afternoon was when I ordered their Nabeyaki Udon with Soba noodles instead of Udon. I had asked if they had chili oil as many restaurants that serve noodles do and they told me that they give powder for a $ 1.00 extra. I understand that everyone’s cutting back and many places charge for what is considered premium these days, specifically being the«Spicy Mayo, Eel Sauce, and Teriyaki Sauce» market, but to charge for the equivalent of what most Japanese restaurants serve as the equivalent of salt and pepper to me is a little stingy. I’m okay with that however, i’m always about putting money back in the economy. Since she did not answer my question about the chili oil however, I asked again thinking that maybe the rude waitress on the phone taking the order may have misunderstood. So she told me «yes, chili oil, dollar extra». Okay, fine, a dollar, no problem. Then she hung up. I only assumed that my order was taken. After walking over, I went in, rude waitress as usual had my food waiting, and I paid and left. So I get back to my office and I open my bag only to see spicy mayo. Oh boy, mayonnaise and soup, delicious. All in all, my experience with Oki has been pretty subpar. There are plenty of other Japanese restaurants in the area that are worth trekking to. The moral of the story is, don’t be lazy, and what may seem convenient, may not be.

I came here for lunch with my family. Their lunch specials seemed limited. I ended up ordering 2 maki roll for $ 7.50, which came with a soup and a salad. The miso soup was tasty and the salad was fresh. I had the eel roll and the salmon skin roll. They were good, but nothing to rave about. My dad had some sushi, which was fresh. I also tried some of my cousin’s udon noodles, which were tasty. Overall, I might come back here again if I am unable to find another Japanese place in the area.

In great despair and distraught, with a friend, I sought a late lunch to sustain substance on Queens’ Boulevard of Death(aka Queens Boulevard). We ordered the special of tuna Bento Box to be shared, with great difficulty from my mental state of distraught, I grind through the Miso soup and ginger salad while the rest were wholly engulfed by a friend. Quality of food was average. I was not well stricken in shock that I was on the verge of vomiting thus occupied the one facility for at least ten minutes. Facilities are relatively clean with very minimal amenities in this one facility. Oki is a small dinning room with mean spirited staff who constantly shoot us a rude scowl look for disturbing their off-duty hours of their lunch. We took our time to eat while we talked. The entire restaurant’s staff were all lounging casually for break or eating their lunches, nevertheless, our party of two were the only patrons in this small dinning room. When requesting for more Green Tea, the waiter gave us nasty look with a loud sigh and muttered«no more Green Tea, we’re actually closed now! We have no more of what you want!!» The moment’s status was not to cavort sprightly at Oki, but was a ill experience in seeking comfort with food to dispel reality’s poison. Rather than willing to serve us throughout the whole meal, they shot us dismissive and vile looks + mutter grunts — unacceptable in the hospitality industry. A simple + polite«We sorry but we’re actually close now» should suffice and my party of two would not disturb their precious time or effort but that was not directly conveyed to us, ergo, the staff would not need to uphold cooking or serving us during the mid-afternoon of 2PM. This statement was not voiced by the staff so we took our time for lunch unknownst to their closed business, but they did not turn us away before we sat down. The person I was with is a elderly white man. Had we known Oki Japanese was currently closed would be a different case and the two of us would not sit down for lunch. I was very disappointed at how we were serviced.
