Review is mostly for the food, but I’ll mention my interaction with the staff. Reasons to patronize: Family run. Cheap food that’s still of acceptable quality. Speed/Freshness. Willingness to make changes to the regular menu to accommodate dietary restrictions. Neat produce market next door.(Buy mangos for dessert while your food’s being made) Delivery for orders over $ 25.00 Online ordering. Plenty of(probably!) single professionals popping in to pick up dinner for one… info more interesting to some than others, but I’d lay strong odds on this being a previously undiscovered singles’ hot spot. Lol If ya play your cards right then that dinner at home for one could easily become dinner for two at the restaurant or a nearby park! Décor isn’t awful, but it’s nothing special. Good for groups. Didn’t check the restroom, but disability friendly otherwise.(I didn’t even get asked anything about my Service Dog! A+!) The staff was kind enough to box my order and bring it out to my car when it was ready. Mistake/oversight was taken care of with style, apologies, and NO fuss or even questions asked. Cons: Very basic ‘American Chinese’ food… hearty, filling, tasty — but not much beyond that. I’d gotten MuShu and noticed I’d not been given pancakes/plum sauce… or plastic ware… or napkins. I’d requested extra egg on two dishes… if this is extra egg I would hate to see ‘normal’! They did forget the pancakes and plum sauce for the mu shu. Basically, I can’t get myself to give this place 5 stars because there’s pretty much not a thing about it that really impressed me. They’re getting a full four stars from me, though, because there also was not a single thing that was bad! In short, it’s solid, quick, easy, inexpensive, Food. As long as your expectation going in is humble and you are just looking for modest, filling, ‘comfort Am. Chinese’ food without a ton of frills, bells, or whistles… you probably will come away with a full tummy, leftovers, and maybe a bit of a smile… but don’t plan on bringing extra socks bc the ones you walked in wearing got knocked off during your dining experience. Good value.

This place is family run and the strip mall parking lot is horrible, but the service is always friendly. We typically order some variation of the dinner for two with the Honey Walnut Prawns(delicious). The portions are generous. Try this place.

I have never seen so bad attitude in before. The waitress(an old woman) kept on complaining in front of my face, because I sent some messages to my friend when I was having dinner. What? They prohibit customers to use the cell phone? Ridiculous!

Came back 3 years later. Still low quality food. Calling this food Shanghainese is an insult.

I ordered Vegetarian fried rice and chicken with broccoli from here yesterday. Both dishes were excellent and the price was less than $ 14. I’ll be back! :-)

So I would be the first one to tell you I probably can’t tell you about authentic Chinese food. What I can tell you if the food is fresh or been sitting in front of a lamp for hours. My co-workers and I usually are looking for a quick fix. We have been to fast food Chinese restaurants and it sure tasted like fast food. We came here for lunch and it was not that busy. They have a good selection of lunch specials that are CHEAPER than fast food places. They cook the food to order and it’s out pretty quick and it taste better than Panda Express or Lucky 7. Is it a fancy place I would take my wife for a nice dinner… probably not but is it a good place for lunch with co-workers that fits in my budget… YESSIR.

There is a reason this place was absolutely empty at lunch time. General Tsos chicken isn’t supposed to taste like sour lemons. Fried rice was dry. Soup was drenched in black pepper. There is a certain level of expectations with this type of place — you don’t expect it to be friendly or clean or amazing but the food has to be greasy and delicious. This place is just a fail all around.

My family LOVES Asian cuisine. After a long day of work, where NOBODY has the energy or desire to cook up a meal, it’s great to «outsource» that task. Who ya gonna call? I suggest Shanghai Restaurant. We’re new to the neighborhood. Scouting out good locations. Take-out was our choice the first time I visited this spot. Food was(for me, at least) absolutely perfect, and the service was great. I can and do recommend this place to all my neighbors and non-local Unilocalers. No reservations.

food was terrible, the items on the menu were not very specific. We got 2 shanghai dinners, and it was a lot of shitty food. My only mistake was not reading the reviews before going there. If you want to ruin Chinese food for yourself and your friends I highly recommend this place.

I like the food we ordered. The rock cod with mixed vegetables and eggplant with fried bean curd. They don’t have too heavy«making-everything-taste-the-same» sauce which I don’t like. Enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere here.

TERRIBLE. — 1 star The ninja rarely does this. however… due to the poor experience at this restaurant it is warranted. My reviews are basically 50⁄50(Food/Service). In this case the service was so poor food was never tasted. The restaurant was empty, the request was simple. 1 order of rice to go. The woman at the restaurant answer«No, no» and said«leave». No explanation… just«leave. .: Overall:. Not sure why the woman reacted that way, but suffice it to say the Ninja will not be returning. .:Recommendation!!!:. Nope… I don’t not want anyone else to experience that. Just terrible…

I was happy to find a Chinese Restaurant that delivered to my address! I had never been to this establishment, so I decided to give it a try. My order was delivered quickly and the temperature was piping hot. The price was reasonable and the portions were huge. I had to order quite a bit of food to meet the minimum delivery price, so I sampled a bit of everything. I ordered wor wonton soup, pork fried rice, beef with garlic sauce and shrimp with lobster sauce. The soup and the shrimp were good, but the beef and fried rice were a little bland in my opinion. The beef dish was my least favorite as it was supposed to be spicy and really didn’t have much flavor. My favorite was the shrimp with lobster sauce. It had lots of shrimp and was tasty.

Way back when, this was one of the few Chinese restaurants in the area. As you can tell by the décor, it shows. Co-workers always went here when they needed a quick meal. Even though they are named Shanghai they seem to have your Cantonese American standards too. Nothing really to write home about but if you work in this area, this maybe the only game in town if you want Chinese

I am posting 5 stars because this place is better than the 3 overall that it currently has. I come here for lunch often and the food is good. I get the lunch special and I have a full meal for $ 7 with entrée, rice, salad and soup. I only have one complaint: they always have the same soup and salad every day for their lunch special. This is a bit annoying because otherwise I would eat here everyday.

Yeah… this restaurant is really bad. The interior of the restaurant doesn’t look that horrible, but the food here definitely is. On my first visit I decided to try the Chicken Fried Rice which is a staple for these kinds of Chinese restaurants and it wasn’t even that good at all! Next up on another visit I wanted to try something different and went with Honey Walnut Prawns. For about $ 7 – 8 I received a lot of steamed rice and only a small portion of the prawns, which to me were basically inedible and not appetizing at all. I have no idea why this restaurant is still around but it’s got no competition with the nearby restaurants in my eyes. I probably should have listened to all of the one star reviews on here…

How this is ranked highly is beyond my comprehension. My soup was like water, my rice was stale, my chicken was rubbery and it looks like the health inspectors need to visit. It’s the closest Chinese to me but I’d rather walk a mile than eat here.

Shanghai Restaurant makes the best fried cheese wontons! Cheese in Chinese food, you ask? I thought that was strange, but they really have those wontons perfected. They’re a must-try. Prices were reasonable– lunch prices ranged from 6 – 8 bucks per entrée. Portion sizes were fair but the ratio of carbs to everything else was a little on the high side. The food was pretty tasty and wasn’t too oily or salty(not too common for a Chinese restaurant!). I was here with my officemate for lunch on a Friday. The atmosphere was cozy and the lady who worked there was always smiling, and she gave us soup and a small salad to start us off. There was only one other group eating here, so service was fast. Overall, the food was good and we were satisfied. This place is a gem for lower-priced, decent Chinese food, but you would never know from the outside, since it’s located in a nondescript strip mall on a street that doesn’t get much traffic. But that’s why we have Unilocal, right? ;)

Your basic, American-style Chinese food, offered in a semi-seedy, strip-mall setting. Food spicing is mild; The menu is 100% English; Tables have forks and knives; no chopsticks. One section of the interior looks nice enough( ). But the rest of the décor is «80’s rec-room», with wood paneling, a faded paint job, and large, unframed Chinese art prints. Even though you may have never set foot inside the door, you’ve been here before. And what’s with fake grape arbor over the door?( ). Since when is this part of Chinese décor? Despite all the American-style-Italian restaurant touches, the proprietress barely speaks English. So communication can be a difficult. On my first visit I asked her which of the chicken lunch specials had the most vegetables. She didn’t understand my question, even after several attempts on my part. Finally I just gave up and ordered. The best aspects of Shanghai Restaurant were the pricing and speed. Lunch specials were only $ 5.75(!) and plates were delivered to my table about 5 minutes after ordering. This was just as cheap as most fast food options(but healthier of course). The food itself: The kung pao chicken I ordered on my first visit was unimpressive. The broccoli chicken I had on my second visit was a little better. Salad and soup served with each of my meals were a bit lacking. 3 stars overall; No more. As for the Unilocalers who gave this place 5 stars(i.e. «as good as it gets»), all I have to say is: C’mon, Reeally? For me, I could see a return here only if speed and cost were my only priorities.
