Deplorable. Not realizing what it was, my family wandered in. We quickly bolted when one of our kids showed us the offensive ‘memorabilia’. When we read the posters and looked into the store, we discovered it exists to spew a mean hate-filled agenda.

I stumbled on this place looking for a hotel and was advised they have small apartments they rent out for cheap. We had our new baby boston puppy with us and they were happy to accommodate us since she had a crate and was so small normally they are not dog friendly. The ladies were so nice the room was all 1950’s theme had a cute courtyard. Kitchen was fully equipped and there was no rush checking out. The best thing the place was 75.00 it was perfect! I will def visit here again the store was adorable as well the ladies were so nice and helpful

Yes, the owners are conservative and have strong opinions. That is their right. I say get over it and enjoy the store. The store cat Smokey is a treasure and the place has a good antique atmosphere. A nice stop along Main Street.

I’m with you, Brothers. This place has to go, and no self respecting person should darken their door again, until and unless they decide to join us in the 21st century. But at the moment, these people, and this place are a major embarrassment, and just what Sutter Creek most certainly does NOT need. Sutter Creek’s a tourist town. Bigotry isn’t cute, or funny, and it isn’t «conservative» as in fact it’s what gives conservatives a bad name. Unfortunately nonsense like they promote opens the entire county up to ridicule and tourists don’t like it, as can clearly be seen here.

Really nice people. They have taken down the political stuff I believe. I love their eclectic selection and they have a friendly store cat which is always a plus. Support them!

My last review on this place was removed by the Unilocal community. I admit I was not very diplomatic but sometimes when you are faced with hate and ugliness, it is hard to be fair. This place is run by people who evidently own other buildings on the block as well as the hotel above. Their aim apparently is to cater to like-minded folks who, if you check out the photo attached, obviously dislike homosexuals, among other choice words, made abundantly clear in their windows. I have not been back in several months to review their off-color window displays, but I highly doubt much has changed. I will update after my next side trip to Sutter Creek. I wrote a letter to the town council and the Chamber regarding my feelings. The response I received was such that nothing can be done because the business owners, as noted above, are also owners of other buildings housing shops rented by… you guessed it… other chamber members. Apparently it is also a matter of their freedom of speech. So… I am going to exercise mine in response. If you happen to be an open-minded antique seeker, you might want to just skip on by this place, they really don’t have much to offer anyway. I would also consider finding other lodging if you are considering the rooms in their hotel. Hopefully we can support businesses that support peaceful and loving communities. If you read this, please keep that in mind, skip Old Hotel Antiques and maybe hit up some other places that welcome all people equally. «If you have integrity, nothing else matters. I’m sad to report that upon walking by this establishment on a beautiful morning, we were shocked to see what was in the window. Along with the antiques there were signs and messages posted. Most of them were overtly racist and homophobic, or otherwise bigoted and hateful. There were some controversial political statements as well, which I thought odd for attracting customers, but the hate speech was what really took our breath away. We love Sutter Creek and had brought our friends with us from NYC to share it and enjoy an overnight here, followed by a weekend in Amador County. What a lovely experience except for this terribly sad reminder of those who openly preach intolerance. It soured our morning and we decided to move on before waiting for the shops to open(mostly at 11a). I look forward to my next visit to Amador County. Freedom of speech is so important to this union of ours, but hate speech in a small tourist town is probably not the best way to increase foot traffic.

My kids and I love antique stores! Whenever we go to a new town, we always look at the antiques. Like most antique stores, this one is stuffed from floor to ceiling with all kinds of different things. She has jewelry, old license plates, lunchboxes, pictures, china, stuffed animals, you name it, she has it. We spent a good half hour in this store and could have spent longer but we had an appointment to get to. If we’re ever in Sutter Creek again, we will definitely be back.
