These cupcakes look great. However I don’t like a lot of icing so the 3 inches of icing is a bit much for me. If you like icing then this cupcakery is for you. I tried the lemon cupcake and the little bit of icing I did eat tasted good. The cake unfortunately was a bit dry. I also tried the mini cheery cheesecake which was awesome. Overall not the worst I’ve tried but definitely not the best.

This chain shop is located at Persimmon Hill near the Flying Bear restaurant. I spotted it while ambling through the Funky Emporium looking at their very cool reclaimed vintage stuff and decided to give it a try. I took home a Wedding Cake and a Raspberry chocolate. The wedding cake was a bust. Cake was on the dry site and crumbly. The frosting was clearly confectioner sugar-based and had little flavor, though it was very pretty to look at. On the other hand, the raspberry chocolate was a dream. It was as described-a brownie like texture cake, with a raspberry center, and a chocolate fudge frosting. The cupcake had just the right amount of frosting on the top, and the cupcake itself was moist, dark, and chewy. The raspberry filling gave it a delightful additional moistness and flavor. Definitely worth having again. This chain has a daily menu of cupcakes. Some are available every day, and certain cakes are only available on specific days. They also have some gluten free options, mini cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, and stuffed cookies. I returned later to try a lemon daisy cupcake that lacked sufficient lemon flavor, and the triple chocolate torte, which was moist and chewy again, with the right amount of chocolate frosting. Gigi’s seems to have the right formula for their chocolate cupcakes, and for the chocolate frosting. Other frostings are loaded onto the cupcakes, and are not true buttercream(and I am a buttercream woman). They detract from the cupcake and have an off taste due to a lack of sufficient butter and flavorings. The cupcakes themselves seem to be a bit on the dry side, and are a bit crumbly. Smallcakes has a better cupcake overall, and a slightly better frosting, but the Cake Shop still tops both of these chains.
