We popped to the bar for a Friday night bite — I had a cucumber gin drink and my guy tried both an old fashioned and a manhattan. I enjoyed my drink but the muddled cucumber kept getting stuck in my straw. My guy said both his whiskey drinks were«fine» and had those awful neon maraschino cherries(drawback to being a Manhattan snob — we love the Luxardo cherries!). We ordered a few things to share — we opted for the burrata, pretzel bread and a burger. The burrata was nicely package — it came longside a few slices of green and red tomatoes. Its not really the season for great produce, so the tomatoes held their own for February. The cheese itself was deliciously creamy — I tend to prefer one larger ball of the cheese(this came as 4 smaller balls) because the cream to muzz ratio is a bit larger, but nonetheless, a solid dish. The pretzel bread was warm and salty — the mustard tip was a bit too much for me(I used it sparingly). Im not really a bread person, but I ate an entire stick(one of three) plus a little nibble from the second one. The burger arrived — triumphantly accompanied with a barrage of fries and armed with a spear of pickle. This was my favorite thing we ordered. The burger was a tender, thick patty, with a slab of real cheddar cheese and a few crispy slices of bacon. We split the burger, but I handed a portion of mine back to focus on the fries. Those little nuggets were crispy and piping hot when they arrived– I couldnt be happier. The service was fine — our bartender was pretty gruff. She attempted to make make conversation after a bit of time(e.g. responding to our questions) but seemed to really only gravitate to the locals she knew. All in all, a fine experience and solid food.

This place is hidden in the basement of a historic mansion — the drive through the property was cool just on its own. Service was great and the ambiance was very cool down there — a classy, old-school hangout in the basement. At the recommendation of the waiter we had the flat bread special for an appetizer which we proceeded to finish in 60 seconds flat. It was delicious. Ordered the lamb chops which were great but definitely had food envy at my co-workers veal chop. Fantastic. Not too many beer offerings but some solid local choices — I’m not mad at that. Seems more geared to the wine connoisseur crowd. Definitely need to head back there during the daytime and check out the whole property.

The exterior of the property was amazing. At first glance when you enter its impressive. The bar is beautiful. However, the place lacked ambiance. The blonde at the bar did not crack a smile, was not attentive, no hello, no thank you and no good bye. The couches turned out to be fake leather with ripped patches here and there. As I looked around the restaurant and the lounge area it was evident they opted for the cheapest way out. Lighting was horrible. 2 glasses of house wine were $ 28.

Highly disappointed and upset with Cellar 49. Booked my Valentines Day Dinner over a month ago through OpenTable, and two days before our dinner, they called to confirm– something every restaurant has done on OpenTable to me. So not a big deal. I called back, and spoke to a female. She said she just wanted to confirm our dinner, I say yes and thought I was done. Well– she said«I just wanted you to know that its a pre-fixed meal, ok?». I asked what it was because when I booked that wasn’t the case. It turned out to be $ 110.00/PP! I didn’t agree to this when I booked and it wasn’t listed on Opentable. I said I would call right back, because I wanted to check to see if thats what it said online. When I logged in the 14th was blacked out. Meaning, they screwed up and didn’t put it on the website as a pre-fixed meal. I called back and told them I couldn’t afford that and wasn’t told when I booked that it was a pre-fix meal so I would have to cancel. They were SO happy to hear that, thanked me for canceling and hung up. Awful awful awful awful. Would never consider going there, and they didn’t even apologize to me. They didn’t care that 2 days before Valentines Day they were putting me in a horrible spot. Horrible business practice and I’ll never be a customer now. Thanks for nothing.

Urgh. Really wanted to like this spot but food choices were minimal for dinner and food was so so. We ordered wings and they were disgustingly sweet. Asked for a side of sauce to take the flavor of sweetness off and thr manager instead sent out wings that had no honey on them. I think that is a good representation of the food here– no real flavor profile. My partner’s po boy was terrible. The burrata was average. My Caesar salad was fine. Service was great, which is the only reason I’m giving 3 stars.

We dined here for my Husband’s birthday 1÷15÷16. The restaurant is located at the Tarrytown house estate and conference center. The cellar 49 is situated in the biddle Mansion which looks like a castle. The inside of the restaurant is lovely with exposed stone walls and a grand fireplace. We were seated in s romantic corner near the fireplace. I told the hostess Christine that we were celebrating my husbands birthday. At dessert our waiter Paul brought out my Husbands chocolate torte with a candle and complimentary chocolate dipped strawberries. The food was amazing nice sized portions and delicious. The flat bread appetizer is very good as well as the waffle fries and Gouda dip. There are tons of things to choose from on the menu and from the specials. The ambiance is romantic and the service incredible. There is also a full wine list and bar. We played foosball after dinner in the game room next to the bar. Absolutely a wonderful evening.

We came to Tarrytown House to photograph a wedding. We arrived a day early so we decided to try out Cellar 49. Since we had driven many hours and didn’t want to venture out for dinner. I had the scallops and my husband had the strip steak. Although pricey, the food was absolutely wonderful. We sat by the fireplace and drank martinis and Long Island iced teas. And everyone that worked there was beyond nice. For a special evening out, I would highly recommend.

We serendipitously ended up making a reservation at this restaurant after we couldn’t get a reservation at our usual spot. Cellar 49 turned out to be our favorite new place in this area. Here’s the story. We usually come down to Sleepy Hollow around Halloween for the sights and scares. It’s a fantastic time of year. We called the restaurant we usually go to and, due to a special event, they were totally booked. We looked around and decided to try Cellar 49. We had family coming with us, so we wanted a great place, rustic, wine bar style, plenty of options. We nailed it with this place. First you drive up a curvy road towards a mansion that the restaurant is in the basement of. I don’t know much about the whole place, but it is quite expansive and has been there for a long time. So it fits with the vibe we wanted for our weekend. We enter the mansion and take the side door downstairs to this beautiful, secluded spot and give them our reservation name. There are candles, brick walls, exposed beams, and hard wood everywhere. The drink menu hits every major plus, from perfect single wines by the glass to delicious cocktails to a rather extensive wine menu. For appetizers we had the spinach dip and the beets app plate. Delicious, fresh. The dip came with waffle fries, which was a welcomed switch from the usual chips that a dip comes with. For dinner my wife got the duck tacos and I had the filet mignon special. Overall, the food alone gives this place 5 stars. Others in our party ordered the chicken, baked mac and cheese, and more duck tacos. Everyone loved their food and drinks. In terms of price, the place was very comparable to others with a similar menu and vibe, though I think Cellar 49 tops them. If we lived down here, I’d go to this place regularly.

Great dinner. Excellent service. Filet mignon was great and the mashed potatoes were served in an individual covered pot. Drinks were also very good

The mushrooms, wings and cheese appetizers were great. I recommend the strip steak. If you use the valet. Do not stay late. They will send you up to the main lobby. Jeanie at the main lobby is rude and not helpful. You are better off waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ himself then getting any help from her.

First time visit to this quaint location and wasn’t disappointed. Impressed with the maple syrup flavored butter which came with three delicious dining rolls. A salami and cheese appetizer combination was delicious, that was accompanied by honey. My entrée was salmon which was cooked perfectly to go along with its top notch presentation. A hidden treasure of a restaurant in Tarrytown!

The Cellar is beautiful. The grounds equally so. I was disappointed with the valet staff. They didn’t offer to valet my car? For some reason they ushered us all to another parking lot. The walk was nice but the maitre d asked why we handn’t valeted the car… anyway, the food was quite good. The service was wonderful and we would definitely come back. Who knows, maybe they’ll even valet my car next time.

If you are at the hotel and don’t want to venture too far, this place delivers just what you’ll need. However, I did have higher hopes, given the reviews I had read and the menu/prices…cocktails and beer selection were great… corn chowder appetizer was very good and hearty… smoked Gouda dip app came with waffle fries(the same frozen kind you find in any chain restaurant establishment — while tasty, I hoped for something a bit more creative)…aged strip steak was amazing and cooked properly… scallop entrée was also cooked properly but came with so much bacon and was over salted, my taste buds could not handle it… Belgian waffle sundae for dessert was good, but again something I could find in any chain restaurant. Would I go again? Of course! But I think they should try to step up their game even more.

The most magnificent experience I’ve had dinning out to date… There food is incredible. I had the braised short rib and my boyfriend had the peach glazed pork chop. The food was excellently prepared and DELICIOUS! The pork was melt in your mouth good(tried some of his) and the braised short rib was not only fall off the bone but sitting in a gorgeous mashed potato bath with asparagus and gravy; to DIE for. The service is excellent, they don’t breath down your neck but they are attentive to detail. They take your coat and hang it for you upon arrival. They’re knowledgeable in the menu items. They knew we were celebrating our anniversary and even surprised us with dessert and cookies on our way out. I absolutely loved my whole experience here and they really do a fantastic job. Lovely lovely remarkably amazing restaurant.

I came here specifically to evangelize the fact that their burrata is the best burrata I’ve had in my life. It almost singlehandedly is worth the trip up from the city. Order it. You won’t regret it. One other point — the portions here are gargantuan. Absolutely Kansan. Portion sizes designed for morbidly obese Midwesterners sent here from a starvation diet at fat camp whose esophagi are ready to take down the house. My kale salad could’ve fed a family of four. If we were in North Korea, include the rest of the extended family.

Very cool looking entrance to the restaurant. We were staying on the premises so thought to check out the restaurant. Service was great. Food was delicious! My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and his only complaint was that it has too much of the oil/butter sauce that sort of overwhelmed the flavor. The waiter was nice when we told him and said he would pass our recommendation to the chef. Drinks were awesome as well. Would definitely go back.

Came here for a nice romantic dinner with my boyfriend. First time visiting here, third time for him. He hadn’t come in several years, but he remembered it fondly. It was Sunday so the dining room was empty, which was really nice for us to have an intimate conversation. Though, the bar had a handful of noisy patrons… which I think bothered my boyfriend a bit. Service was wonderful. Everyone was very professional, polite, and engaging. They had no problem snapping a photo of us or answering any of our questions. I ordered the pork chop and he got the special of the night, a filet mignon. Both were excellent. My pork chop tasted like a hawaiian ham, haha! The cheesy grits and sauteed spinach were a nice pair. The portions were very large — no way I could finish that chop on my own! Wine, food, service, very on point. Beautiful grounds as well. It’s worth the money(which in reality, isn’t THAT expensive for what you get). I love the fact that I can remember this place as one of our special nights. Hope to visit again in the future.

Attention food and wine lovers! This hidden gem is waiting for your visit. I just spent an amazing evening at Cellar 49, the restaurant in the Biddle Mansion at the Tarryown House Estate and Conference Center on the Hudson. The Mary Duke Biddle(of Duke tobacco) Mansion is part of this expansive property overlooking the Hudson River, and the restaurant is located in what was the private bar and single lane bowling alley(yes, bowling alley) in the lower level of the stone mansion. Renovations on the space started back in 2008 but it is only recently that Cellar 49 has been able to cater directly to the public. The space has been slowly restored to some of its former glory — brick, stone and rich woods, with some modernization. There is a full bar, a comfortable couch and seating area just off the bar, and a couple of small dining rooms as you work your way back through the space. Tucked away in the very rear of the restaurant is a private dining area in the wine cellar(this used to be the pin pit in the bowling alley) — which is available for private parties. The stone and brick frame a faux tin celing, and the ten(10) seat handcrafted wood table is surrounded by the reserve wines(see pics). Comfortable high-backed chairs and«wine cavern lighting» create a true visual menu. This is where our tasting dinner was held, and I cannot wait to go back with more of our friends! We met executive Chef Chris Harrison, who painstakingly, along with the help of Polaner Wines sommelier Chris Gambelli, constucted a four course tasting menu and wine pairing. It is clear chef Chris, who has held various jobs in the kitchens here loves food, and it was also clear he brings creativity and superb execution to the menu. The wine selection offers good choices from domestic and international regions, with stops at several price points along the way. You can also BYO for a $ 32 corkage fee This evening’s event was a small plate pairing with eclectic California wines, and if you care to read on, the details are below. If not — suffice it to say this was a HUGE surpise, and a great find. The space is warm and comfortable and the staff has done a wonderful job building a menu and wine list to fit the space. I have already made plans to go back with my wife and our friends. Truly a hidden gem. Go — enjoy! Figs/peppered greens/blood orange balsamic and a hint of blue cheese was paired with a crisp old world style Lieu Dit Sauvignon Blanc from the Santa Ynez Valley in California. The Crostini with grilled peach/arugula matched up well with the Massican Chardonnay. This Napa chardonnay avoided the big over-oaked buttery style in favor of a restrained treatment with a hint of old and new French oak, letting the fruit shine though. The harmony with the grilled fruit clearly hit chef Chris’s mark! My favorite of the evening was the 2006 Rhys Pinot Noir, which was killer with the pecan crusted squash blossom and carrot coulis, as well as endive filled with crumbled walnuts/raisins and diced apple. The Rhys is hard-to-get(a few bottles remain in the Cellar 49 wine room) and was a real treat. The final course of candy cane beets and grilled summer onion fit well with the Arnot Roberts Syrah — once again, old world in style and much more food friendly than many modern day syrahs. Kudos to the two Chrisses for putting together a terrific tasting! I reviewed the menu and the wine list and simply cannot wait to explore another gastronomic adventure in that private dining room!
