I would love to be able to write a review but alas I has tried to dine here twice and they have been closed. I went a few weeks ago on the weekend — I don’t recall if it was Saturday or Sunday around 3:30. There was a sign that said they opened at 4:30 so we went elsewhere. I went back yesterday at 4:20 and the sign has been changed to say closed on Sunday and Monday. My boss said the food is really good but I don’t know that they will ever be open when we arrive.

What’s gives with the hours? Been twice trying to eat lunch and both times closed. Once at about 12:30 mid week and the other on a Saturday at 2pm… both times the website indicated they’d be open but a hand-scrawled sign on their door said differently. It’s too bad really. Wanted to try but not sure I’m up for a third attempt at this point. Guess they don’t serve lunch anymore?

Went there for the first time last weekend. Great BBQ and excellent service. Had the ribs and brisket combo and it did not disappoint. Had two sides: cucumber salad(yum) and the mac and cheese(meh). Beers were cold and overall would definitely return to try the cajun side of the menu.

First time to visit this place and found a nice atmosphere. The ribs were good… But, the order was a LARGE portion and the menu said 7 to 9 ribs. We were served 4, which were good… But not enough. I spoke to the manager and he seemed upset that I would be complaining, saying that his ribs were bigger/larger than most served. He did bring us two more ribs. The cost was substantially more money and we wanted to get what we paid for and what the menu stated.

Live music, people who treat you like family and superb food — what’s not to love? We had the crawfish bowl and a shrimp po boy, Wow! Also had a group of 10 – 12 people and the service was excellent. Keep up the good work, Kyle!

We’ve been to RJ’s four times over the past month. The food NEVER disappoints. Tonight some us went the Cajun route and were extremely pleased with the jambalaya, shrimp creole, Cajun pasta with corn choux and chicken. Another of our group chose the baby backs which were smoked perfectly. The owner stopped by with a basket of crawfish for us to try and they were great as well. Only reason we don’t rate the palce a 5 is the help is still on a learning curve. A little inattentive, a little in experienced but pleasant nonetheless. Give RJ’s Native Son a try, it’s well worth it.

Wonderful selection, meeting the owner tonight, he made sure we were at home and had a perfect dining experience.

I read the reviews and gave it a try. Needless to say the accolades were exaggerated. Walked in to find a good band playing really loud but it is too small a venue for bands. It does appear to be a mom and pop shop but pop was stuffing back a big bowl of crawfish while indulging a wine sales rep. Mom was a bit drunk but friendly. The waitress Cathy was attentive but busy. In spite of the mediocre food, they seem to have steady customers. The brisket was dry and lacked seasoning. The ribs were microwaved and bland. They ran out of the only veggie side: corn on the cobb. We would have been better off going to Dune Dogs or Outback.

Soooo the foods good but the service… Well yea. Doesn’t exist… Hope they sort it out. Has lots of potential.

The food is good, portions way too small for the price. No lunch menu/specials. Went for lunch, two sandwiches with fries and beans and two iced teas $ 40 with tip 1⁄3 of the pork sandwich was fat. Never got any drink refills or napkins(other than the inital roll-up) either. It’s a BBQ place, napkins should be in an dispenser on the table.

Baby Back Ribs were the best I’ve ever eaten; bread pudding makes it an even more worthwhile trip; and the service(James) was excellent. We’ll be back !

Unfortunately had a very poor experience here. Service was really bad. Sat around FOREVER before ever being helped and the place wasn’t even busy! Food took an hour plus to come out which would have been semi-okay if our server would have just kept refilling our drinks. The owner and his wife were nice, but the service was otherwise very poor. Food was decent but sadly will not be coming back. Better BBQ and service down the street at Park Avenue.

Seems like a family run joint. Server super friendly. Dragged cool horse saddle seat over to our booth for my daughter. Slight wait for FOOD but not a major complaint. BBQDELICIOUS. Smoky with great pink ring and burnt ends that BBQ aficionados appreciate. I’m a New Orleans ex pat so I appreciate decent Cajun fare. Oyster poboy good and jambalaya great. Kids loved the Mac n cheese. Smoked wings only downfall. Nice job and definitely recommend. Add some Texas flair to the decorations and you’ll have a local gem.

Fully understand the challenges of a start up restaurant especially with staffing. Lots of operational issues to work out. But how is it possible to be seated by the owner and then ignored for 10 minutes? While the bar was busy, the dining area was only half full. Several servers passed by, and not one could even say«be with you in a moment». So we left. Menu looked very interesting with a blend of BBQ and Cajun. Really a shame we did not have an opportunity to try. We’ll wait 6 months and give it another shot.

This was my first trip to RJ’s Native Sun and I am very happy I went! I rarely take time to write reviews but I feel that this place deserves some accolades for its food. It is tucked away in the corner of County Line Plaza so it isn’t evident from US1. I ordered take out so I can not comment on the service but the staff seemed friendly and they already knew customers by name as they arrived, this after the place being open for only a short time. My take out order arrived quickly. I did not know what to expect but I was very pleased the moment I opened the box. I chose the pork rib plater, the ribs were the best I have had in years. VERY tender, fall of the bone juicy meat, with a charred outside bark that was just the right thickness and had great flavor not just a charred crust! It was an amazing combination of bark and juicy meat, how do they do that? I had a choice of two sides which for me was the cucumber salad and also the red beans. The cuke salad was yummy with a sort of creamy vinegar dressing to which I added some vinegar pepper sauce I had in my refrigerator. The beans were(in my opinion) a version of Louisiana red beans in a nice sauce with a good ratio of pulled pork included. I am impressed with the food I had. I hope that when I go back and eat-in I am as pleased with the service as the food. I look forward to trying the green chili which I was told by a few people is very good. This is a recently opened restaurant and I am so hoping that they do well because I loved the ribs I had! I want to go here again and again! This place is in my top three BBQ slots which include Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, AL and a tiny rib place in New Orleans called The Joint. Go RJ Native Sun!

Only gave three stars because they are newly opened this weekend, so they are still getting in the groove. I will do an update and expect their rating to only get better. We had the sausage and the brisket. Both were really good. The brisket was tender, and tasty. The service was very good. Draft beer selection is pretty lame. I’d like to see more micro brews on draft. I definitely recommend you give it a try. Try the brisket. We will be going back.

RJ’s Native Sun Café just opened yesterday here in Tequesta so they have some bugs to work out but I have to say they have the best brisket I have ever tasted! Juicy and smokey, piled high on a huge bun with 2 types of bbq sauce, sweet red and Carolina yellow(not the vinegary kind). I wish them luck in their new venture and welcome to Tequesta!
