I used to come here once in a while if I was craving Jja jang myun or Jjam ppong. Not after my last visit. They raised the prices up $ 1.00 on everything. That didn’t really matter to me. I got the Jjam ppong and it seemed like it wasn’t fresh at all. It was REALLY salty as if they had it in the pot ALL day. I had to drink so much water when I went home when I didn’t even finish half of it. The service and environment is nice and all but the taste of jjam ppong just ruined everything.

I tried this place when it first opened a while back and it wasn’t too great. But I gave it another try and I think their taste improved. They only have 6 things on the menu(but technically 4) so it’s very simple when it comes to ordering. The restaurant is a korean-chinese fusion and most people get Jjajangmyeon(noodles with black bean sauce), Jjamppong(noodles with spicy seafood broth and vegetables), and tangsooyook(it’s kinda like sweet and sour pork). You can also replace the noodles with rice, which becomes jjajangbab and jjamppong bab. I would recommend you to get tangsooyook to share and pick either of the jjajangmyeon or the jjamppong. They raised the noodle prices to $ 6.99, but regardless, it is great pricing for the portion and flavor. The restaurant is also self-service and you can see them making your food. The cashier is friendly and helpful. Your food comes out pretty fast so it is a great option in the hmart area if you are in a tight schedule.

If you’re looking for this restaurant, it might be hard to find if you can’t read Korean! It’s near Kimchi Stylist/Yogurtland. This is a Chinese restaurant — Korean style. Aka don’t expect typical Chinese food but that you see in Korean dramas — jjajangmyeon, jjampong, tangsuyuk, etc. Actually there’s maybe only 5 dishes on the menu. The cashier who takes your order doesn’t speak much English, but enough to allow you to order. It’s also self service so you grab your own chopsticks and everything! We got two orders of jjajangmyeon which was mediocre. The portion is huge! There are chunks of pork in it, which was good to see, but I truly like my instant version/Hmart food court’s version better(NOT Chapaghetti). I’m still trying to find a place for bomb jjajang! I wouldn’t come back for this dish but may want to come back to try the other few things on the menu.

They give you huge portions, very reasonable prices. The tangsuyook(fried pork with sweet and sour sauce) was the best. Everything is self service here, you place your order and they call out your number. Dont forget to clear your own table after! Mom and I shared the jjambong and order of fried pork, lots of food. The jjambong wasnt spicy at all for us and there wasn’t a lot of seafood(squid) in it but for $ 7 not bad.

I didn’t have a full meal here, but instead shared one ja jang myun($ 7) and tang soo yook($ 10). The portions were decent and were shareable for 2 not very hungry guys. The batter used on the tang soo yook is traditionally flour, but they seem to be using rice here which makes it unique and tasty. Parking is usually packed around this H-Mart area on weekends, so try going there when it’s not so busy!

This is the second HKBJ I’ve been to. It’s good and better than the alternatives in the area. The food is clean and does not taste overly oily. I’m a fan of the jjampong here. It’s extra peppery and by that I mean, peppercorn peppery. Trust me, it’s good. I love the way the tangsooyook is fried too. It’s always nice to see something fried with a coat that’s not overly browned from oil that’s reused over and over again. I can’t say that this one is better than the one I went to in California but I do have to say that it’s the place I prefer in the area. I won’t go out of my way to trek here from uptown just for this but if I’m in the Carrollton area and in the mood for some jjajang or jjampong, I’ll definitely be stopping by.

Jja jang myun is only $ 5.99 and jam ppong is $ 5.99 and is huge. Probably can split it. The tang su yook is a little small at $ 10 but it’s pretty good and made with special batter or something. It’s a good size pave and it’s maintained well. The kitchen is visible from the outside. You self serve so there’s no tip. It’s right next to Park Jun and Charm Juk. I would recommend this place.
