This is my favorite sushi stop in Toledo, and I yearn for it when I’m out of town. It’s fresh, made with love, and the owners are gracious hosts. Try the«no name» rolls, and you won’t be disappointed. There are also good Korean items, like chirashi.

Pretty much my go-to place in Toledo/Sylvania for getting fast, cheap, decent sushi. You get what you pay for(it won’t blow your mind or anything) but it’s definitely better and more affordable than some other places out there. I usually get the california roll, salmon, or spicy salmon, which are like 8 pieces for ~$ 4. My only complaint is that the spicy sauce for the spicy salmon and the filling in the california roll are a little too mayonnaise-y, but some people might enjoy that. The owners are always super nice too!

This place is cute but rather hidden from the main stretch. The prices are very reasonable but you do get what you pay for here. The rolls that we get usually have very little raw fish in them and by the end piece — it’s practically all rice. This hasn’t happened just once but every time. we used grab carry out here every other week — that is till my husband got sick from their sushi. We haven’t gone back since and with two other sushi places down the street it is really hard to find the reason to come back here.

My go to for sushi these days. Fresh, and well done. It definitely satisfies that sushi craving that I get from time to time.

Used to live in Asia and this place absolutely compares to food there. The owner is wonderful and cooks her food with so much love. Highly recommend.

Good cheap sushi seems like an oxymoron but this place does do it well. It is very basic but is fresher and better than super market sushi.

With Domo around the corner, I’m not sure why my friend suggested this place. Yes the price is cheap, but you get what you paid for. I came here with my friend on a week night, and during our entire dinner there were only 2 take-out orders + our table. I guess this shop is set up more for take outs, but they do have tables around and a sushi bar. The daughter/mother waitress/sushi chef combo were really polite and nice. I ordered the tuna combo and house salad. The food was prepared quickly. Sadly the salad was better than the sushi. I’m not saying the sushi was bad, but it was mediocre at best. The color of my fish doesn’t look super fresh, but I can’t blame them as business seems very slow. I think I rather spend a few more bucks and go a few blocks to Domo. Perhaps they need to move out of this little plaza or spice up the seating area.

Bottom line: Great portions, great prices. Had I not been introduced to Taruman, by a friend I would never have noticed it hiding in its small shopping plaza by City BBQ. Taruman is my most favorite sushi place in Toledo(5-star bias, sorry!) The sushi is simple but always tastes delicious. If you aren’t big on mayonnaise-based fillings, I will warn you that the crab for the rolls(ex. California) is mixed with mayo. Rolls are heavy on rice too, but I like that. I always order the spicy tuna roll and California roll with masago. Of the specialty rolls, I prefer the Waikiki sunset or monster. They offer a lunch special from 11−2pm as well which includes miso soup, salad(house or seaweed), and 8 pieces is sushi(two rolls, each 4 pieces). I’ll be honest, if you’re looking for authentic Japanese sushi this may not be the place for you. If you enjoy a simpler twist on sushi that tastes great and is easy on the wallet, be sure to keep your eyes open for this sushi cubby hole!

So I actually kind of went out of my way to check this place out. I know nothing about sushi. And I mean NOTHING. I am not cool or hip. I am from Monroe dammit. Monroe does not really have much in the way of ethnic retraunts and it has nothing even resembling a decent sushi place. So I went here based on the reviews that I read on Unilocal.I was very pleased with this place. They are reasonably priced and the sushi is really good. I definitely like the vibe of this place. Not very many places to sit but you can sit right there at the bar and watch them make it. I like how comfortable and casual this place is which is part of why I like it. It’s not super fancy with candles and chandeliers and sh*t. Those places make me uncomfortable and I always feel out of place. The other customers were actually surprisingly friendly as well(we debated salmon vs. tuna rolls). I mention that I was pleasantly surprised because Toledo isn’t the friendliest area I have ever been to compared to other mid size cities. No hate, just an observation. The service was fast and friendly as well. I always just order spicy salmon rolls because I may not know squat about sushi but I know what salmon is at least. 0. o It IS very hard to find as everyone else has noted. I passed it myself being the giant dork that I am… I really like to use reference points and there is big old Meijer right there next to the plaza so that is how I always remember where it is for future reference. :) My only complaint is that I wish it was closer to where I live!

Polite staff and great sushi. The best quality for the cheapest price you will find. Basic rolls are good, and the specialty rolls are even better. The Taruman roll is great. The spicy mayo is the best I’ve ever had. Sometimes they use a bit too much rice but that won’t stop me from going. The tofu in the miso soup is not the greatest but I still order it. I recommend this place.

was super excited to find a sushi place that had cheap sushi rolls. Usually in larger cities, these small Japanese take out places offer quality rolls at cheap prices. I don’t expect the food to be amazing but at least acceptable. I have eaten at dozens and dozens of Japanese places of all types and this would have to be the worst place ever. The rolls are made with just rice. I found a speck of what looked like my avocado. The salmon in there was also extremely small. Even for the pricing, it was totally not worth it. The cost to buy an avocado isn’t that much, why would they be so stingy. One avocado in their store probably made the entire days rolls.seriously. This place is probably made for people who want to eat«sushi» and not actually eat fish, etc but just mainly rice with seaweed paper wrapped around it. I use Unilocal a lot to see what people say about places but this is my first time posting as I really have to tell others, not worth the price. Even though the sushi is more expensive at KyotoKa across the street, its worth it in comparison. You’re getting about 5x more stuff for double the price or so. I am also amazed about how people post positive comments for this place. Any big city, they would be out of business in a week.

Follows the standard, you get what you pay for. Yes its sushi, but not the melt in your mouth fish that is served at your«A» level restaurants. The fish was fresh, but the best way to describe it, it tasted lean. If you want to stuff yourself for less than 20 bucks this is a good choice.

So to clarify, this is not a ‘sushi restaurant’ i.e. a nice sit down restaurant. It’s more of a take out kind of place. But there are a couple tables that you can sit at.(see posted pics) The Korean chirashi was plentiful & price wasn’t bad $ 9.50. It had a lot if sashimi and not much rice. As for rolls, they looked very homemade. The sizes of each piece differed from thick to thin. The rolls were pretty cheap(ranging from $ 3.75 to $ 4.75 for regular Maki and up to $ 8.50 for larger Maki rolls) but tasted good. They didn’t have specialty rolls like spider. This place is a great place to go for take out if you’re in the mood for sushi but don’t want to spend a lot.

This place is not bad for cheap sushi, give it a try if you don’t wanna spend $ 30 or $ 40/person on sushi because you somehow just want to eat some sushi, not super fancy ones! I like their rolls and especially handrolls. Nigiri are just ok.

Meh… I was very excited to finally find a cheap takeout type of sushi restaurant in Toledo(Vancouver is littered with little take out sushi joints like this that often superb quality sushi, so finding something similar in Toledo, I could hardly contain myself) Yet I only found my self disappointed even though I’ve been back a few times as I just did not quite want to give up on this little place. first of all, this place is HARDTOFIND. It’s tucked in the middle of a strip mall away from the street and the lighted sign has been broken every time I’ve been there. I’ve only ordered takeout from here so I can’t comment on service. Now to the FOOD– The fish is ok… not the freshest, but it is acceptable, what’s not acceptable here is the makeup of their rolls. Almost everytime I’ve ordered from here, there have always been 1 or 2 pieces on most of my rolls(usually the end pieces) that are almost 100% rice. That’s just not acceptable. Aside from that, the rolls are actually not too bad, especially for the price. — Their seaweed salad is also worth a try as they do provide you a good amount for a minimal price.

If you want cheap, fast, delicious sushi, this is your place. Don’t be fooled by the fact that it is in a plaza in Toledo and the absence of a smiling man in a kimono manning the sushi bar. Taruman is delicious and if you leave that sad plaza parking lot without even ordering take-out you, my friend, will be sorry Ok let’s start with the sushi. It was delicious. My dining partner and I had a dragon roll, an extreme monster roll and a Taruman roll. Excellent size rolls and the fact that they were reasonably priced(did you say 7.75 for a dragon roll?) enhanced the flavor. Both the monster roll and Taruman roll came with spicy sauce and eel sauce which I love, but some purist may not like. There is a list of at least 15 specialty rolls to choose from and many contain eel(I love eel so this review is soaking with bias). The service was also very friendly and very fast as our sushi order was fulfilled minutes after we had ordered. I so badly wanted to give this place 5-stars because it was so cheap and delicious, but I had go with four stars. The food was great except for the udon. I knew we shouldn’t have ordered it, but someone(not me) had an udon craving that would not be silenced. Instead of tempura udon we were given a bowl of noodles with a single tempura shrimp. It looked very sad, especially since I’ve seen udon in all of it’s delicious glory. Stick with the fish. Also, we weren’t given any kind of beverage or offered water, but when we asked about water it showed up right away. Lastly, décor is kind of lacking and the setting is kind of informal, but perhaps the low overhead costs translate into sushi savings. I will definitely be going back here. Good sushi is hard to find in Toledo.

Awesome sushi for the price! I only wish I lived closer to it! I don’t know what they do to the rice, but it is the best consistency I have ever had — and even on day 2 of eating the sushi(if I can restrain myself), it’s still soft, not hard and brittle like other sushi places I’ve been to. A must try for those looking for affordable sushi to take home and enjoy on the couch.
