AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

This is a tough review. I used this service center a couple/​three years ago and had a GREAT experience. The people I dealt with were so friendly and interested in why I was there and the customer service was really good. Which is why I went back 6 months ago. My car is older and my intention is to have it on the road about a year or so. When I used the center 6 months ago, the cost was fairly high for the value of the car. Not to mention there were a few new bumps and bruises on the car that hadn’t been there when we had it towed over. AND the people I dealt with were not the same people I had dealt with on my first visit. This was a totally different experience in customer service. It was like I was an annoyance for even coming in with my old gal. Unfortunately I went back a third time — I figured I should keep using the same shop that «knows my car», right??? Well, after dropping another chunk of change on what was supposed to be an already-​paid-​for part of the previous service, I decided that was enough. I won’t be going back.
I don’t know what changed, but I wish they’d change it back. How you treat the customer is as important as how you treat the vehicle you’re servicing.

I do not recommend this place at all. We went there to get the clutch fixed on our car, and they screwed up the alignment, broke the clock spring (which controls the air bag sensor and several other major components). We took it back and they were very rude to us, and tried to say our cars new problems that they caused were driver error. They lost the filter cover and claimed again it wasn’t there before. And caused us to have to get a second alignment done after they fixed the clock spring that they broke, plus caused an additional $ 500 worth of more damage. Did I mention they also added $ 400 worth of additional charges after the agreed price of $ 1400 to fix the clutch??? Disrespectful manager George, who does not care about the customer at all.

My Suburban broke down on I-​45 near 1960. I called AAMCO based on a recommendation from a family member and less than an hour later the tow truck Bridget at AAMCO arranged had my ride loaded up (at a cheaper price than I can remember paying for a tow truck in a long time) and on the way to the shop. By that afternoon, they had me back on the road. They have been my go-​to mechanics ever since.

I went here for a second opinion on my old jallopy. It had been slipping gears passed a certain speed, and had that constant «check engine» light glaring at me every time I turned the blasted thing on. The first place I took it to, advertised a free diagnostic on my car, and promised to tell me what horrible demons had recently possessed my transmission.
At this first place, which will hereby be refered to as, «Scammy-McGee’s,» I handed over my keys and took a seat in the sad looking lobby. Not that I care much about the lobby, so long as you honestly help me with my car.
There’s the hitch. The man at Scammy-McGee’s told me he’d have to hold my car overnight, charge me 180 $ for the «free» reading (that he said I was missing a proper part for), and let me know in the morning. Needless to say, I got my keys, and left.
***Now to the actual review*** I called up Aamco on Kuykendal, and they were really polite over the phone (good sign number 1), and they had me come out, even though it was 20 minutes before closing time. Not only did they discover the part old Scammy said was missing, they ran a free diagnostic for me, and explained, in detail, what my car would need to get back into shape. All the while, NEVER pressuring me to spend a dime or commit to any repairs, and gave me free cookies. I left without making any decisions, so I could mull it over. But if I decide to keep the beast, I’ll be going back there for all the repairs.
