Best pasties!!! Go there every time in the area. Eat in dining area and have warm gravy and sour cream available to accompany the fresh made pasties. Take out available to enjoy the great taste of pasties at home.

We stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday and were greeted by friendly helpful staff. We each had a chicken pasty accompanied by warm gravy and cool sour cream. The chicken vegetable crust ratio was perfect. This is truly the definition of comfort food. I felt like my taste buds were in a warm fuzzy blanket. The next time I’m going to buy a few to eat in my room so my taste buds and I can both be in blankets — so meta.

Amazing pasties! Also the fiesta wrap is the best wrap I’ve ever had. Scones are the best too! Can’t wait to go back! Extremely friendly service!

Very good pasties, steak and cheddar the best in my opinion. Sanwiches are excellant. Everything is made fresh daily. I recommend having a piece of cherry pie to finish your meal. I’m giving Jenny’s 5 stars because it is one of the best deli’s in Northern Michigan.

Wonderful quick lunch spot! The staff here is so helpful and nice. I’m trying to be healthy so I didn’t get a pasty. However, my coworker had the chicken and he loved it. I come up to TC all the time for work. I’ll be back to this spot for sure!

The Powerhouse rocks my world! Haven’t tried much else, but always satisfied with my go-to! Quick service, but not a great flow at the counter. I always feel like everyone(customers) are confused, and it needs to be clearer that a server brings your food to the table.

Tried to check this place out around 9am for the pasties… but there were only two left for the 4 of us… and none were vegetarian. So id suggest going really early if you even want to try anything. The two that were left were just not that appetizing(ham and cheese). I don’t think I’d go back.

I grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan but have been living in North Carolina for 22-years. After reading a blog from a Traverse City local, Cousin Jenny’s was our first stop once we got into town. It had been many years, since I had eaten a pastie, and Cousin Jenny’s cured my craving. I had to go with the original steak pastie which was delicious. I enjoyed having the warm gravy with it. The iced tea was also very good. I loved that they were playing Classical music — a classy place. I actually went to Cousin Jenny’s the next day for lunch — pasties two days in a row. I wish that I could go there for lunch today, but I am back in Raleigh.

Stopped in here on our last morning in TC. Ordered two pasties, a blueberry scone, and a couple coffees. Simply wonderful. I had the veggie, my husband ordered the sausage. Both were yummy. But by 9am, the selection was slim… just so you know.

I will try not be biased, seeing as this was the first pit-stop my wife and I had on the agenda for our 1-year anniversary in Traverse City. Growing up a Michigander, I had always seen a handful of shops peddling«pasties» in Metro Detroit. And admittedly, until recently my only experience eating pasties was in the VIP section of my favorite gentleman’s club. Let me tell you, these taste a lot better, and are apparently pronounced«pass-tees.» Modern man has devolved to nuking Hot Pockets and scarfing them down at his cubicle, trying not to burn the roof of his mouth. The pastie is the the Northern Michigan old world working man’s hot pocket. History has it that wives would make their mining husbands meaty pasties, and they would heat em’ up over a fire on their shovel during a long day’s work. Lucky guys! I am lucky if the wife leaves a Nutri Grain out for me on the counter. Cousin Jenny’s rendition of the pastie is no disappointment it appears. The menu has a plethora of options, but many are specials and not available every day. For instance, the steak and cheddar pastie looks awesome, but was not available the Friday afternoon we strolled in. Would be nice if they were all available all the time, but gotta work within the means right? Do a few things and do it right. My wife chose the chicken pastie and I chose the steak. Both were very tasty. Tasty pasties. The jingle to start of a beautiful Michigan day. The real beauty lies in the freshly baked crust. It tastes distinct from a pot pie or really any other crust I’ve had before. The edges of the crust are to die for, especially when some of the filling is still latched onto it. Much unlike pizza crust, the crust here steals the show. My steak pastie had a lot more potato pieces than steak, and I would have appreciated a better ratio in favor of the meat. But it was still very good, even with the 8:1 carbs to protein. Steak pieces are small, which is appropriate for this dish. My wife’s chicken pastie had other veggies much reminiscent of a chicken pot pie. While traditionally meant to eat dry — the staff is kind to supplement patrons with warm chicken and/or steak gravy, sour cream, and ketchup. I highly recommend you try the gravy with the pasties, at least on intermittent bites. The sour cream pairs well with the steak pastie. If you have ketchup here at all and are over the age of 12, you are not my friend anymore. Service here is great. Friendly and small town vibe. You order at the counter, but they bring the food to you and check on you from time to time, so a small tip is appropriate, even if 10%. The interior has plenty of old Michigan décor, but if the weather is nice, then eat outside and people watch in friendly Traverse City. I am very happy this place was my first pastie experience! I am now motivated to try a few in metro Detroit. But I will always remember where I had it first — closer to the source. Two ‘smitten’ by the mitten’ thumbs up!

Yum yum yum. We made a quick stop here on our way out of town. We’d been trying to get some pasties during our stay Up North, and Cousin Jenny’s was worth the wait. Between the three of us, we shared a traditional steak pasty, a chicken pasty, and a french potato. They were all great, and very different. My fave was the french potato: while it is far from traditional, with the mix of ham, cheddar, potatoes, and green onions, it’s like ham soup in a pastry shell. The chicken was essentially a pot pie with less gravy. The traditional pasty is cubed steak, rutabaga, onions, and potato. It’s about what I’d expect. Not my favorite, but I can appreciate it for its history. They also serve scones and other assorted pastries, but the pasties are obviously the draw. The ladies behind the counter were both very friendly, and took their time explaining the pasties to us. They aren’t too expensive, and you can be in and out very quickly. I’ll be back to Jenny’s my next trip up north!

Good food & friendly people, although we felt pressured to leave by a staff member who kept collecting our plates almost the instant we had picked up our last bites — and despite the fact that the restaurant was almost empty at the time. I think he was just one of those overly-efficient types who is always in «crunch» mode even when it’s not meal time. Clean dining room, tables are a little bit jammed together. Good selection of pasties.

While in northern Michigan, I saw a lot of places advertising pasties, the small pie-like meal that has various meat and vegetable fillings and served piping hot. This food item was invented by folks in the Cornwall section of England and somehow found its way into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as well as the northern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. While I was full from my lunch of whitefish, I thought that pasties would be a good afternoon snack. After finding this restaurant on my Unilocal app, I walked over to Cousin Jenny’s and was marveled by the selection of pasties, such as steak, steak and cheddar, chicken, etc. They also have some rotating selection of pasties. I ordered from the assembly line and decided to try a steak and potato pasty. While I could have eaten right at the restaurant, I decided to take my order to go and to have a few hours later. Fast forward a couple of hours later, I decided to taste the steak and cheddar pasty, which also came with a side of gravy. It was still hot, which is how you want to have a pasty. I found this to be a scrumptious choice. It would probably have tasted even better if it wasn’t the summer(pasties seem like a cold weather comfort food). I’d definitely recommend others to stop here while in downtown Traverse City.

I’m always interested in a good pasties(I blame Alton Brown and the Food Network). When I heard that this is a family restaurant that has been in TC for 34 years… same original owner… I had to check it out. And when I went in, there she was! Although I was there for breakfast and got a Bobbie(not a pastie), I also got a breakfast soufflé(very quiche-y). I will be back for the pastie! The food was delicious(as I had guessed from reading the reviews)… The bobbie was like a delicious bacon infused hashbrown, and the sour cream touched it off perfectly! The soufflé was actually my favorite, and was thick and hearty… but the eggs were light and fluffy. Jerilyn was there to greet me, and actually talked to me for about 15 minutes. When asked if I wanted fresh-squeezed orange juice, she actually cut 3 oranges in half and ran then through a juicer… mmmm, pulpy goodness(perfect for a day that’s going to be spent in airports!). She had a sign up celebrating 34 years this week! and no «food truck» was going to run her off! How could anyone let a food truck park in front of her cute little store… I guess it’s on public property. But WHY would ANYONE consider going there when this is an option! If you are coming in with a large group and want burgers quickly, that place is down the street… this place take time, energy, and talent to run… and you get a quality product for it… so relax, and enjoy! 5 Stars boys and girls, and she earned every one of ‘em!

Decent food. Awful service. Came here with my family during a saturday afternoon. The place was empty and there were about 10 of us. Now, as we were getting ready to place our order, one of the staff members kept nagging about how much silverware we need and where we would need to sit. Mind you… there was NOBODY in this place. Easily the rudeness didn’t stop with this person as it infected the rest of the staff. When we were going to order off of the menu, the person taking our order said… we would greatly appreciate if you look at what’s available as opposed to what’s on the menu. UMMM… THENWHYHAVE A MENU!!! so when we look at what’s available, it was only 4 types. So after this deal with the staff, I can finally review the food. The pasties are pretty good. The crust is fine, and the fillings had just the right amount of heat. I did like the gravy that came with(even though that was another hassle to get). If I just reviewed the food, I would give it a 4. But because the service sucked more than a shop vac, I’m giving them a generous 2. One thing to note, if you have a menu you should be able to supply what’s on the menu. If not and you need customers to only order what’s available… GETRIDOFTHEMENU altogether.

Genuine service… they are apperciative to have you there. Outside table service available, just order inside. We got a veggie, a chicken, and a steak to try them all… they were all gone! Yum. Sauces available on the side. We even got some to go! The breakfast looked good, but we were only in for lunch.
