Great place for families. Our young kids had confetti pancakes with eggs on the side. I had«the sunrise» and husband had«hearty» something. Spuds were crazy good, eggs cooked perfectly. Service was extremely friendly and attentive. The décor was ‘70s retro and was quite cool. Great spot!

DELICIOUS breakfasts! This is now one of my favorite stops in Traverse City! The cherry compote flap jacks are my favorite, however their omlettes are also amazing. Portions are very good and so is service. Sitting on the patio is a bonus. Décor is 60/70s and fun! I highly recommend a stop while in town.

We came here after a friend recommended it. Our waitress was so so good.(Her name is Sarah.) She was kind and very quick. We ordered our toddlers meal right away so he wouldn’t have to wait and his meal was out within 5 minutes.(Anyone who takes young kids out to dinner will appreciate how fast that was!) The atmosphere was cute and retro. My only nitpicking would be the syrup container was stuck to the table and the high chair probably needed to be tossed out. Overall a great experience.

Came here with a group of ten on a Sunday, so we figured it would be busy but we were willing to wait– worth it. Not a very big waiting area but you make do and enjoy the coffee that’s free while you wait– nice perk. We were seated fairly fast given our group size and got terrific, patient service while we all made up our minds– coffee by the carafe is another coffee bonus. Wanted to try something other than pancakes because that’s what I usually get– also the pancakes seem heavily leaning toward dessert. Went for the Albuquerque omelette– it’s terrific– and if I get another opportunity I’m pretty sure I’ll make that a repeat choice— and I’m not an omelette guy. Definitely worth visiting.

25 minutes to get seated… That’s ok we were willing to wait. It’s been an hour since we sat and still no food. Also the reason why we came here is because our first visit same thing happened and we were given 10 to use on the next visit. Food is good but this is ridiculous. Almost ready to leave!!! With no Sunday breakfast.

Love the Flap Jack Shack! We started coming here after it was renovated and absolutely love it! Breakfast to lunch, they do not disappoint! The biscuits and gravy are amazing! Also love all the baked omelets, especially the Albuquerque! Came on a busy Sunday and the waitress was extremely attentive and communicated there was a slight wait but we weren’t worried about it. Always been consistently excellent. Quaint spot and décor with some amazing Traverse City views! Can’t wait for the patio to be open!

Having been a long time Traverse City visitor we were long overdue for our 1st visit to the Flap Jack Shack. Saturday morning as you’d expect are busy, the wait was however not long. The service was a little slow though our waitress got it all correct and even remembered our to go coffee cups. Now for the important portion — THEFOOD. It was very good for the price but sadly was not quite warm enough. We had waited for quite a while so we made it work and due to the busyness of the restaurant didn’t ask for any adjustments or warmups. Not complaining per say just be sure to ask for hot food on a busy day. The corn beef hash is awesome! Give it a try if that’s your thing! We’ll definitely go again!

Decent breakfast. Nice atmosphere. Friendly, great service. I like that they leave the pot of coffee on your table. Potato pancakes were not good. They seemed more like mashed potatoes with cornmeal in them. The pancakes tasted a bit of corn meal as well, heavy. The ham is Canadian bacon, round and small, avoid that. Eggs and bacon were good. Super expensive breakfast. For the money, you are way better off going to Big Boy next door. We were staying at Great Wolf and wanted to try something different but it really wasn’t anything special.

I left Flap Jack Shack disappointed on a few accounts. I tried ordering corned-beef hash, and they were out. This just rubs me the wrong way when something is out. I ended up ordering a skillet. It came out pathetically small and underwhelming. The two flap jacks on the side were dry and sad looking.

Flappy Jack’s is really good for breakfast but everything else is very good as well. The Monte Cristo with the French Onion Soap is one of their best sandwiches and can easily be split between two people or half taken home. My other favorite dish is Diced ham and eggs served with a side of salsa, hash brown potatoes and of course pancakes. The décor is Route 66 dinner style flash back you the 50’s.

So our experience was a little bit tainted. We waited in line for a table for about 20 minutes. weekends are very busy. Overall they were understaffed a d overbooked. I had one of the skillets(the one with bacon and tomatoes) and it was hot and fresh and delicious. Others at the table had cold food or things that were undercooked. It took us almost 2 hours to complete our dining experience, which was not by choice. The cook did come out and apologize, and credit our bill. Overall I dont think the food is worth the hassel of getting it in front of you… also drinks took about 25 min to even reach our table. Bummer because it was pretty good food

1970s décor, colors and the music you remember. American family diner with view of the hills. Football on TVs above the bar. Food is good and attractive. Thoughtful staff.

Loved the place, we had a feast and got biscuits & gravy, banana bread french toast, breakfast burrito side of sausage and fruit… Obviously we couldn’t finish it all just the two of use but we wish we could! Mimosas were delicious as well ;)

The food was not very good overall. Quality varied per each in our party. The service was very poor. We went to the shack because we knew we could get some drinks with a Saturday«brunch». Upon entry, we were told we could not be seated outside– odd on a nice day. It was warm and sunny outside– maybe too hot for them? As we sat, it started to get pretty warm inside anyway. No shortage of servers or employees in general– like a server per table. In fact, our table of four experienced 3 different servers. Only one of which seemed to actually care how we were doing. We sat near noisy kids. Bloody Mary’s were too salty, small, with an odd heavy application of lemon pepper on the rim. This place is confused! Progressive décor scattered around a generally cheesy interior, breakfast and lunch menu that looks creative but is no better than Ram’s Horn, adult beverages available in a typical family style setting — all out of whack. Not coming back.

My husband and I were heading out from Travers City and the day/night before we were in downtown. We didn’t want to have to go to downtown again for breakfast and pay for parking, so we found the Flap Jack Shack while on our way out of town. I was a bit apprehensive about going based on the outside(I know, don’t judge a book by its cover!). The place is retro, but not dirty. It is very clean and cute! Had oldie but goodie music on and we were seated right away for a Friday morning. Their prices are reasonable, much more reasonable then going to downtown Traverse City. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. I got«The Sunrise» you get a bit of a taste of everything. Their spuds had good flavor and didn’t just taste like a potato. Flap jacks were fluffy and my two eggs were cooked just the way I wanted them. My husband got the«Ultimate Hearty» which basically is the same just three eggs instead of two and added sausage. Do not pass this place up! The coffee and food are hot and the retro theme is unique and fun! Skip Cracker Barrel and come here!

We were staying nearby and thought we should try a local place vs a chain(Cracker Barrel) for breakfast. Food was not that good. Service outside was not great. It is a cool looking restaraunt but not worth the stop. For a pancake place, the pancakes were so dry no one could finish a short stack. Next time we will just go to the chain and get some good, predictable food. Disappointed with the Shack.

This restaurant was really nice and had a retro vibe to it. The experience felt like you were having breakfast in a 60’s diner. When we arrived there was a wait(apparently this is common). We were seating quickly. Out waitress’s name was Summer and she was great and nice. I had the full of it flap jacks and they were delicious. The food was hot, the coffee was great and the service was fast. I would go back again to try other things on the menu!

Pros: good hot coffee, friendly wait staff, standard stick to your ribs breakfast grub. Cons: dining room reminds me of the Brady bunch living room.

Don’t let the corky giant lantern and 70 feel of the Décor stir you away. Have passed this place a dozen times headed into Traverse City on mini vacation. Today we stopped on our way back home. The waitress was outstanding. Had a sausage gray omelette which was so good. Loaded with potatoes, sausage, cheese and topped with sausage gray. And sour dough bread with home made strawberry jam. So good. I even finished off my wife’s flapjacks yum. Will be back
