Sat outside on a beautiful summer day. Nice selection of beer available. Margherita and Ambustus pizza were tasty. Neighbors dropping by tables and hanging out with customers and staff. Service friendly and prompt.

Great atmosphere and the pizza was awesome. The beer and wine selections were incredible too! Check out this Troy gem for sure. I will be back for sure!

Took a day trip to Troy; this was a decent dinner spot. Rugged aesthetic featuring the gaping mouth of Bacchus as the pizza oven. Unfortunately, the food was less exciting. I tried the garden pasta, which had lots of veggies prepared in a creamy red pepper sauce. I think my college dining hall makes pasta with more flavor — I had to add quite a bit of salt for it to taste okay. The cheesy garlic bread was soft and chewy, although the garlic flavor could have been more prominent. Some of my friends ordered the pizza, which looked good and crusty. Plus it gets extra points for being cooked in the Bacchus oven. Service was warm but slow(although I was with a large group).

Pretty standard pizza. The crust was doughy and delicious but otherwise nothing too crazy. We started out with the spinach and cheese dip which was ok but the bread it was served with was great. Their wine pours are generous and they offer decent wine options. We ordered the margherita pizza which was pretty middle of the pack if you ask me. If you’re looking for a relatively decent laid back pizza option this is the place. If you’re looking for the best pizza you’ve ever had, keep looking.

Pizza and Beer. Wood Fired Pizza and Beer. Wood Fired Pizza and 12 Craft Draft Beers. Have I got your attention yet? If not, then don’t bother reading any further. I’ve been to Bacchus maybe two or three times over the past ten or more years. I don’t know why I haven’t been there more frequently. It’s quite convenient to the Troy Music Hall directly across the street so you can stop in before a performance or even after a show if it’s on a Friday or Saturday when they are open until midnight. I know I’ve suggested it to my wife numerous times even when we weren’t going to the Music Hall. Finally, last week I convinced her to return after recently having had the opportunity to try wood fired pizza at some other places. The atmosphere at Bacchus reminds me of some of the Old Montréal places we’ve come across. You enter from the street into the basement of an old stone building that I believe may have once been a church. Heavy stone support walls separate the small rooms in the restaurant, you almost feel like you are in the catacombs of some cult where you see a fire burning in the mouth of the sculpture of the god Bacchus. That’s where your pizzas will come from. The pizzas are available in two sizes — 8″($ 6.95) and 12″($ 10.95). There are all the standard toppings available in addition to some less offered options, e.g., artichokes, feta cheese, pepperoncinis, and fig. You can design your own pizza by upgrading your sauce($ 1/$ 2) from choices of Pesto Sauce, Roasted Garlic Alfredo, or Garlic Infused Olive Oil before choosing your toppings($.90/$ 1.75, although meatballs, sausage, chicken, and shrimp have slightly higher costs for each size). We decided to take the easy way out by choosing two of the small pre-designed Specialty Pizzas. We went with The Ambustus and The Mozza Bella($ 10.95 each/small). The Ambustus came with blackened chicken, mushrooms, jalapeños, red onions, and topped with a spicy tomato sauce. A light hand was used in applying the chicken and tomato sauce, but there were plenty of jalapeño slices, red onion slices, and mushrooms, and a reasonable amount of fresh mozzarella. The dough had a very nice flavor, was enjoyably chewy, and had some nice brown and char spots along the edge of the crust. If I wanted to change anything, I think I would ask for more char on the edges and crispness on the bottom if possible. The Mozza Bella came with meatballs, fresh mozzarella, spinach, fresh minced garlic, and the standard red sauce. We also opted to add their homemade Italian sausage($ 1.75) so we could sample it. The blend of flavors for the Mozza Bella were totally different from the Ambustus but just as enjoyable. The crust was similarly charred and I have to wonder if we had arrived at a later hour(more than 30 minutes after they had opened) whether the oven would have been hotter and the dough more crisped. Not to overlook the craft draft beers, I was quickly drawn to the Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout($ 6/pt), not only because of the sign hanging on the wall above our table, but also because it was the darkest of the dozen offered and a favorite of mine. My wife had the Brooklyn Insulated Dark Lager($ 5/pt) and was pleased with her selection. And while I didn’t say anything about it, they also serve seven different varieties of Pasta and they also serve wine. Service by Kimberly was prompt, friendly and efficient. I’m hoping there won’t be as long between visits in the future. Maybe some Unilocal friends would enjoy having a gathering here.

Do you like to eat gourmet pizza and drink craft beers(or cheap wine) while being watched by the dark eyes of a flaming ancient god? Of course. Go to Bacchus. The pizza is thin, crisp, and topped with items unusual for your typical cheap delivery services. And, as alluded to above, baked in a pizza oven in the shape of Bacchus’s head. The beer selection is great. Less so for wine, but who wants to drink expensive wine with pizza anyways. Bring your date or your kids: it’s appropriate for both. Enjoy the food: it’s what Bacchus would want.

My son picked this establishment for him since he is a big pizza fan. He picked it for me because of the fact it has an decent craft beer selection. It’s located in the basement of an office building downtown. We went on a Saturday evening and the place was full. We sat at the bar, and the place being busy didn’t seem to disrupt service too much. I had one of the local craft IPA’s and the temperature of it was satisfactory. I ordered the side salad and split a pizza. Both were pleasing. All in all a good experience, although the staff were adequate, they weren’t going to win any congeniality awards.

A restaurant located in the basement of an old building in Troy. A very cool setup with brick walls, wooden booths, and a crazy looking pizza oven. The service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip(bon!) and 4 different pizzas. The pizza is thin crust and very good for upstate NY. The 8-cut is a personal size pie and the large enough for 2. There’s a good selection of craft beer on tap. I had heard good things about this place before and it exceeded expectations.

Delicious wood fired pizza and very cool ambiance. Spinach artichoke and shrimp dip was best I’ve had in a long time

Pizza is delicious. Good beer and wine selection, craft beers available. Good prices. Bartender could use some manners, but wait staff were pleasant. Will go back for the pizza!

Bacchus. How I love thee. Your food is fabulous. The garlic bread with cheese is something dreams are made of. Brick fire pizza is on point. Everything is so reasonably priced and they have a create your own pasta option which satisfies all cravings! They are receiving a 3 start because the service could stand to be a bit more attentive and friendlier at times.

We came for a late dinner on a Saturday night. The place was dead. Initial vibes from our bartender and server weren’t great. I think she was trying to be funny but came off as rude and inappropriate. Food was not good. My pasta was overcooked and my boyfriend’s pasta dish, Rome’s Inferno, had too much spice and not enough flavor. We just did not have the best experience. I would try again and maybe order something different.

Consistently great job with their pizza whether you are eating in or picking up. Reasonably priced, though if you are feeding 2 adults and a couple of kids, you will probably need to buy 2 pizzas since they are small. Sauce and cheese are always proportional to the crust. Hipster type atmosphere consistent with that area of troy. Cannot speak of other items on the menu since I always get the pizza since it’s so good.

Limited menu choices — pizza, pasta, and appetizers. The pizza was burnt, the spinach and artichoke dip was mediocre. But the state of the bathrooms is absolutely deplorable. I’m never coming back.

When I’ve had too much to drink in Troy, I stumble my way here with my friends and satisfy m my pizza cravings. You know if you’ve been in Troy there are plenty of places to get pizza, but a pizza forged from the pits of the underworld(or a stove shaped from a giant Bacchus head) is what I crave. Crispy crust with a variety of tasty toppings and a nice selection of craft beers and wine to keep the night going is why I keep going back. Never had an issue with the friendly staff and the atmosphere is pretty laid back. Check it out.

I love my time with my son talking about anything at all. Being a mom is the most treasured gift on the planet. Thank you sweet Jesus!

Okay, so keep in mind that this review is based on the one visit at this restaurant. The location is okay. There are parking meters nearby so I can park and enjoy my meal. The inside of the restaurant is pretty unique compared to most of the pizza places I’ve been to. When I visited, it was during lunch hours. There wasn’t a lot of people so it didn’t take too long for our food to be ready. I didn’t try the pizza mainly because I was told by my friends that it was really thin. I prefer to have pan crust pizzas. I ordered a pasta dish that was completely vegetarian. It was delicious! Lots of flavor and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. I really like the ambiance in this place. It would seem more appropriate for a Friday or Saturday night spot for beer and hanging out with friends. There are outdoor seating available, so that’s very neat. Staff is friendly and the price range is very reasonable. Most people tend to overlook this little Italian restaurant because it’s tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Troy. But if you’re trying to figure out where to go on a Friday night, try Bacchus!

My party of four was quite surprised that this place was as large and pleasant at it was. It’s dark and quiet(in a good way — maybe because there wasn’t a lot of people — even though it was Saturday night). A+ on ambiance, it felt like an old style pizzeria. Very Troy. Service was okay. Not overly accommodating. We liked the beer choices(about $ 5 a pint.) we ordered the mozzabella. Which was good, but not much to write home about IMO. It sorta bothered me that the cheese didn’t cover the pizza and the price wasn’t worth the size. Clearly the pizza is fresh and made to order. As was the salad and the roasted garlic bulbs. I’d rather go cheap and get I love ny pizza. But if I’m gonna do gourmet pizza I’ll head over to the capital city gastro pub. My fave in the area.

Speaking as someone not from the area, this restaurant was a hiddem gem. It’s downstairs below groundfloor and the second I stepped inside, the aura of the place hit me. I was fascinated by the oven as it’s the first thing anyone should see. The ambience of the restaurant had a relaxing feel to it due to the dark lighting. The smell of freshly baked pizza accompanied by the chefs enjoying their individually made masterpieces also added to the effect. Mozza Bella pizza: can’t go wrong with it because a Kennedy created it, which was enough of a reason for me. Custom: pineapple, mushroom, ham, broccoli, and red sauce. It was a weird getup that tasted pretty healthy and pretty good. I would only recommend this if you like those ingredients. Custom: BACON, FIGS, ANDGARLICINFUSEDOLIVEOILSAUCE(the sauce was something along those lines). This genius combination tastes amazing with the bacon(one can never go wrong with bacon) and the figs that add a certain sweetness to the combo. I would highly recommend this custom combination to anyone, even if they dont like figs or bacon. Just try it! The pizza in general was overall really good. The pizza was thin so toppings did fall off. Drinks: The original sin cider was good, it tasted pretty similar to a fruit beer. The waitress offered their last keg of some kind of bock, which was very enjoyable. It had a hint of some kind of fruit to it that no one could put their finger on, but nonetheless a great beer.

They have a very simple menu. Pizza and pasta. But its really well executed and you can create whatever you want. It’s also really easy to spend a lot of money here because of that. If you want any sauce other than red, there’s an upcharge. Chicken is considered a premium topping. So with my brilliant imagination we got a 12″ pizza with garlic alfredo sauce, blackened chicken, broccoli, and ricotta and it ended up costing us $ 21 for that alone. I also expected the pizza to be a little bit bigger. It was a decent size for two people but because of the thin crust it was really easy for us to eat the whole thing. Then we didn’t have any leftovers so instead we ordered two 8″ pizzas to bring home! I was actually kinda glad I didn’t stuff myself because then I still had room for dessert. The raspberry lemondrop was amazing!
