Stopped off at Marty’s on our way out of Tahoe after a week of hitting the slopes. We had to wait about 30 – 40 minutes, but it was quite worth it. The food and the service was phenomenal. The Huevos Rancheros breakfast burrito was AMAZING! Highly recommended, I plan to stop by the next time I’m in Truckee.

I have to give this place 5 stars as my eggs benedict was perfect and so was my little green salad that came with it. They kept filling up my coffee without asking. This place is a cool Western themed eatery. I am liking Truckee more than ever and didn’t know this city was such a great place to hang out.

I’ve gotta say, I was expecting typical diner fare and was blown away by Marty’s. First off, there were about 6 or 7 small parties ahead of us and we were seated in about 20 minutes. I’d say that’s pretty darn quick. We sat on the end of a communal table, so it was almost like having our own table. My friend and I both ordered the egg sandwich. I opted for over-medium eggs and she stuck with the suggested sunny-side up. The dish was beautifully plated: a nice slice of toast with the cheese, bacon and eggs over top, a cute disc of homemade hash-browns and, to our surprise, a delicate salad with a light topping of balsamic vinaigrette. The lemon aioli was served in a strip along one side of the plate, allowing you the choice to use it or ignore it. I’ve gotta say, my dish was prefect and not greasy at all. The salad elevated it to much higher level. The service was beyond 5 stars. I raved about the option of Pepper Plant hot sauce. I wanted to buy a bottle(it’s hard to find where I live) but no one knew how much to charge. As I was leaving one of the servers said, «Marty said to just take one» and she handed me a bottle! I was floored and speechless at such a nice gesture! I love this place and will go out of my way to return here again someday!

My bagel egg sandwich was huge for $ 6. It was very good. My friend had the French toast. Their was nothing special about it but not bad.

Awesome breakfast, awesome sandwiches. Note the sandwiches are HUGE. I am a big eater and the fulls killed me after a half. The portions are huge on everything, even the kids hot dogs. Must stop diner in Truckee.

Wow. This place kinda’ just knocked our socks off. Count your blessings Truckee! Marty’s Café is a serious Gem of a breakfast/lunch spot. I might have just had the best grilled cheese sandwich of my life. Eat here.

FOOD — Fried Egg Sandwich: 2 sunny side up eggs over bacon, Gruyère cheese, lemon aioli and French bread. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the flavors came together very well. 5⁄5 – Salad: greens with house dressing. 3⁄5 – House Potato: fried mashed potatoes with green onions over Hollandaise sauce. Well seasoned, perfectly fried. 4.5÷5 — Sloppy Joe: ground beef cooked in Sloppy Joe sauce with swiss cheese, chili peppers, and guacamole server on garlic bread. The meat was flavorful. I liked the addition of guacamole. 4⁄5 – Potato Salad: smashed potatoes with green onions, topped with fried onions or shallots and more green onions. The potato salad was tasty. 4⁄5 SERVICE We were instantly greeted and seated. Our server gave us time to look over the menu and asked if we had questions. No one came to check on us, but that’s okay, we were busy stuffing our faces. lol. 3.5÷5 FINALTHOUGHTS We’re definitely coming back. Everything on the menu looked good!

Super small restaurant. They are extremely packed though so it shows that they’ll be worth the wait. There were lots of local places that weren’t as packed. No waiting area so you just wrote your name on the list and wait outside. 30 mins later we were served. The women were extremely nice. The handed my boys a «present» with a train for them to play with while the sit and eat! Loved this idea! We ordered the huevos is ranchero and the meatloaf sandwich. Both were amazing! Full of creativity and flavors! The potato salad was literally the best potatoes salad my husband and I have ever eaten! The meatloaf sandwich was on a perfectly chewy and toasty French roll! And the made the cutest Mickey Mouse pancake for my boys! We’ll definitely come back if we’re in the area again.

This place is THEBEST! Service was super friendly with someone always coming around for water or coffee refills. My boyfriend and I both ordered the fried egg sandwich with no aoli. So good! We also ordered a half order of the French toast. This is probably the best French toast I ever had. The breakfast came fast and so did the check. We didn’t wait on anything. If you are in the area you have to check it out. They are open for lunch too.

Super cozy and friendly! What an awesome spot. GF and I stopped in after a weekend in Tahoe on our way back to the bay. I had the c.b.l.t.a. OMG the chicken breast was cooked perfectly. Soft bread, lettuce, tomato, and avocado plus bacon. Whaaat!!! Not something I typically order but it was suggested by our server and I’m glad I ordered it. It was amazingly flavorful and so fresh. I asked for the aioli on the side because secret sauces scare me but it was sooo good! And the side of potato salad was probably the best I’ve ever had! GF had the Eggs Benedict and she loved it. It came with this fried mashed potato cake thing, it was crispy on the outside but creamy on the inside. .it was crazy good! The service was great & fast considering every table was full. We are taking family visiting from Miami to Truckee in March & will definately stop by again for brunch!

I really hate to write such a negative review of a local, and small mom n pop place. But honestly I hated my meal here. We came in on new years day for breakfast. So I understand the craziness. I am an avid hater of crowds. So none of that was Marty’s café’s problem. But what I didn’t like about Marty’s was the food. I got the fried egg sandwich. The bacon was good, nice and thick. The fried egg was done perfectly sunny side up. BUT, what really sucked about this dish was they smeared mayonnaise all over my plate. I don’t know if that was suppose to be hollandaise sauce… but it sure did not taste like it. The sauce tasted like mayonnaise, and it really ruined my meal. The coffee was not very good either.

We loved this place so much, we went back the next day. Even though they were crazy busy, the servers were super friendly. The food was delicious and the portions large. As a vegetarian I was pleased to find options on the menu that I could enjoy – namely the Isreali couscous and their unique version of breakfast potatoes. My wife loved her eggs Benedict and my son ate his entire breakfast bagel egg sandwich even though it looked too large to complete. We’ll be back next time we go to play in the snow.

Worth the wait! Most friendly service regardless of how busy. Always delicious, always generous portions. Been going there for a few years now and still looking forward to any of their offerings. May it be the green chili burrito, skiers breakfast, brie and mushroom omelette, eggs benedicts(daily special or traditional), or philly cheesesteak, etc. you will leave nourished nicely from this cozy spot.

Passing through Truckee? This is a must stop meal — bookmark it. Breakfast and Lunch 7-days a week and open for dinner later in the week. It’s a stop we make when we pass through(perhaps every 6 months or so)… if it’s not too crowded. It’s not a large dining room and parking can be a pain. If you have any doubts whether you’ll like it, this Unilocal rating does not lie. Check out the achievements of the owner/chef Marty Carlton( ). Fresh quality ingredients. Portions can be large. Food is at your table fairly quickly after ordering. Service has always been great. Check out the menu online to get an idea of what to expect( ). I was prompted to write this review after recommending Marty’s to a fellow Unilocaler who was headed it that direction. I hadn’t realized I’d not written a review. Karen & Ken stopped, ordered, ate, and Karen wrote her review here … Albeit short, it sums up what you need to know about Marty’s Café.

This quaint little café was recommended by our Unilocal buddy John H. I wanted a good lunch place on our way to our adventure! I saw it was fabulous & glowing with just about five stars too! When we got here there was snow all over! There was a little parking area right next to the restaurant. Thank goodness a space was calling our name:-) I was happy we got here in good time especially since I needed to empty my bladder! Thank goodness they had a bathroom but the toilet wouldn’t flush. I hurriedly ordered our food &OMGOSH it appeared so quickly! Hubby got the huevos rancheros breakfast burrito that was humongous!!! He said it was delish! I ordered the two eggs your way with English muffin & cute potato cake! Now I’ve never had that before & I want to go back again for another! It was so flavorful that I was sad there was no more! I was pretty full that the two eggs was more like five eggs! I took some of that to go! And so did my hubby! You think it was his birthday with that unforgettable burrito plate! He was so pleased! Now this restaurant knows how to do make amazing food to please your palate. I’m so glad I asked the right person where to hit today! Thanks John H!

Marty’s is great. We discovered it a few trips to Tahoe ago and have been making it a regular stop ever since. The menu is moderately priced but beware, the portions can be ENORMOUS. I typically get the half-sandwich, which by most standards would be considered a full. If you can get in, I think you won’t be disappointed.

Obsessed with this spot! I love how cozy the small restaurant is, and if you’re lucky enough, you will get a seat right next to the kitchen. The open concept kitchen is open to the dining floor, enabling the patron to experience the assembling process of ingredients first hand. We were even able to thank the chef personally after the meal was over, without the need of leaving our seat, nor the chef having to leave the kitchen. The dishes are a collection of usual favorites but with fun and unique twists. For instance, all breakfast dishes come with a side of «house potatoes» but they aren’t your usually hash browns. Instead they are a mashed conglomerate of potato with their skins and spices, then seared into fun shaped hockey pucks. As a lover of the vegetarian cuisine, my boyfriend and I always tend to opt for veggie choices, and luckily for us there was more than one option to choose from. The huevos rancheros was by far the star of our breakfast, with housemade beans swimming in a delicious pool of rich sauces and covered with eggs. The vegetarian Benedict was also a big hit with us, each bite showcased fresh vegetables which to me, is the best part of any meal. Bravo, Marty. Bravo.

When you’re not really a breakfast type of person and can order a sloppy joe and burger at 9am from the sweetest waitresses with no judgement — done. Great atmosphere, huge portions, and very tasty food! I’ve never seen portions this big in such a long time that as soon as I was halfway done with my sloppy joe I had to put it down and get a to go box. Either way, delicious — for sure would visit again the next time I’m in Truckee!

This place is amazing and Marty is a genuinely nice and creative guy(and though busy, he’s still not too busy to chat with his guests). I’ve been in a few times now and I’ve tried something different on each visit, there isn’t a flaw with the food, the menu, the staff, or the décor. Located in Old Town Truckee this quaint café matches and blends perfectly with its surroundings. The staff one and all are pleasant, conversational(where appropriate) and happy to offer tips or recommendations. On prior visits I’ve relished in the splendid enjoyment of the Sam, a very high quality blend of pastrami and corned beef, piled incredibly high, and beyond words delicious. On another occasion I had the fifty fifty, a blended patty of beef and pork belly, that is succulent and so incredibly rich in flavor. Today’s trip I had the special, called the Judith, winner of a local contest. A chicken breast sandwich on a hoagie, dressed in a fig and jalapeño jam, topped with melted brïe, and a bit of lettuce. All I can say is wow! Delicious beyond words, creamy with a touch of sweet from the jam and again so good! Even the simple side salad with their housemade balsamic vinaigrette is off the hook. I’m not a potato salad guy(but wouldn’t be surprised if Marty’s couldn’t turn me), and finally my next visit(which may be tomorrow for lunch) I’m definitely trying the macaroni salad, can’t go wrong with macaroni, feta, pepperoncinis, sun dried tomatoes, oh yeah, I know that’s gotta be good. When in Truckee, visit Marty’s.
