Food was good. Nothing to rave about and the service was mediocre. I am giving 3 stars for average food and interesting décor. I ordered a wet burrito and was mushy.

If your looking for«real authentic» Mexican then this is your place. It says so on the sign! All joking aside Tacos Jalisco in Truckee ROCKS!!! I could smell the wonderful food before I even got to the door. The building is small and quaint, yet they seem to be able to fit in a lot of seating. The first dining room has high top tables that seat about 8 people each. dining room two has some booths as well as smaller tables for littler parties. This place had a genuine mountain feel without straying from the traditional taqueria ambiance. When I arrived there was one person in front of me in line, I ordered and sat down, suddenly the people started rolling in. everyone from high school kids to construction workers, the place filled up quickly and I came to the conclusion I was clearly in a locals favorite sort of place! I had two tacos with the asada, and since I like sopes I tried one of those with carnitas as well. the meats were fresh and flavorful and there was plenty of it. The shell for my sopes was clearly made in house. It was the perfect blend of tender and crisp. Also I started with chips and pico. Oh the pico!!! Super fresh, obviously made this morning with big chunks of jalapeño to bring the perfect heat. I also have to mention the orange colored salsa. It tasted like a home made Tapatio and it was the bomb! I finished the meal with a horchata, a little heavy on the cinnamon side for me but still enjoyable. I will make it a point to stop by here every time I go through Truckee! I’ll probably even make a special trip up there just to stop in and eat. Taco’s Jalisco is «THEBOMB»

The hotel we stayed at referred us to this place. A little far out but well worth the drive. I had the Enchiladas verde and it was delicious! Not a lot of seating and you have to pay for soda refills. I will definitely be coming back though.

It started out good, friendly environment and happy customers. First off they ran out of rice. Really, no rice at a Mexican restaurant and it was early in the evening? We ordered a riceless meal and found a table. Good chips, not so good guacamole or salsa. When the food came it was watery from the lettuce and cold. The side of beans was very small and luke warm. The tostada was cold. The only hot thing we received was the nachos but those were made wrong and had to be sent back to be redone. Not worth the $ 50 we paid. Overall a very unsatisfying meal. I hate to leave a bad review, but there were no redeeming qualities to this meal. I stopped in for lunch with my family on the way home from Tahoe based on the mostly solid Unilocal reviews. Unilocal got this one wrong. First off, there was no salsa bar and no complimentary chips. Chips and salsa were available for purchase. This is just a minor gripe, I know. My main problem with this place was the food. It was… not good. My wife had a dry carnitas torta on some lackluster bread that was squished flat for some reason. I had a wet al pastor burrito that was also lacking. The meat itself was of seemingly poor quality and not seasoned well at all. I only ate half, and left the other half behind. It all seemed a little pricey on top of everything.

Incredibly fresh food! Their salsa & chips were super yummy. We ordered fish taco, vegetarian burrito & chicken burrito. The food ingredients were super fresh & delicious in every bite. We would definitely go back when in Truckee next time.

There is no Mexican restaurant that comes close to this one! I am from San Diego and have been eating quality Mexican food all of my life. This place is the only place in the truckee /Tahoe region that deserves 5 stars! Love the atmosphere, the food and the family who runs it!

Carnitas is bland and extremely dry. The salsas are watered down and a weak excuse for salsa. The carne asada burritos are decent. But why settle for a decent burrito? The customer service sucks as well. Definitely had better Mexican food else where though unfortunately this is pretty much the only Mexican food spot in Truckee.

Sorry, but I think that I am going to have to pass on coming back to this place. I was craving Mexican food with my family and based on my fellow Unilocal’ers tried this place out. I get that you are in a destination town and the prices are a little higher. What I did not expect was that the quality of the food did not come anywhere near matching my Mexican food expectations or the price. My standard for rating Mexican food is the carnitas. It was a little on the dry side. There was nothing about the meal that was horrible, it was that everything was just mediocre. I wanted to like it, but just couldn’t. What did I learn today? Too many white people in the restaurant to be authentic.

Overall 2.5 stars but I’ll round up for pleasant service. Not too hard to find, looked up food places on Unilocal upon arrival in town and decided on Taco Jalisco. Very hole in the wall place with Mexicana paintings and décor. J. got the wet burrito al pastor and I got a California burrito with chicken. The enchilada sauce on the wet burrito was good, but the contents just okay. Wasn’t evenly distributed upon rolling up the burrito, with all the beans and rice at one end and the meats at the other. My burrito was sizeable. The meat wasn’t dry but there really was no wow factor. A filling meal, sorta satisfying. Next time will probably try El Toro Bravo.

11÷9÷14: I’m sorry, I really have no idea how it’s possible this place is rated so well. Compared to the vast majority of Mexican restaurants in California, both hole-in-the-walls and chains, this food is really badly cooked. 1. Carnitas $ 10.99… Rice: Wow, THE very worst rice I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant at any price po
