We’ve been renting a house here for years for the winter season and have always loved sledding on the 18th hole. Yes, I know– officially not allowed due to liability. Well this year the association has dug in their heels and put fences in the way. Such a total bummer, particularly since the sparse snow has limited other recreation options. I think it’s finally time to find a new place to go.

We rent homes here every winter, and because this winter the snow came later, we didn’t have much snow to play with and headed to the playground instead. It was a great playground with two sections, one for bigger kids, one for younger kids. The kids loved it, and they loved the little bridge with the creek going under it. There was a bit of snow on the bocce ball courts(or that is what I was under the snow), and the kids had a bit of fun there with the snow. Overall this seems like a great association, and I can’t wait for my son to get older so we can take him to the Donner slopes for inner tubing and skiing.

The homeowners asso has made so many improvements I don’t know where to start. During the summer it’s golf, great tennis, pools with fun activities, marina on Donner lake where most families go for the day. Yes, guests over 7 have a daily charge but good all day at all amenities. As an owner if we didn’t have guest fees we the owners probably couldn’t use the amenities as they would be filled by guests. It’s like having a private resort available to us. The winter has downhill skiing, cross country skiing, sledding on the driving range. Yes, everyone pays for these winter activities but the owners get a break in fees. Then we have the Lodge/Pub for a nice dinner or take everyone to «Pizza on the hill» for food & beer/wine. Don’t get caught up in the politics of a homeowner’s association just go and have fun!!!

The HOA here is extremely dysfunctonal. I am a home owner and property owner(for past 13 years) and the issue is not the amount of dues per year(quite reasonable for all the fantastic amenities). The primary issue is a GM that is out to lunch in wanting to develop this into a Vail/Aspen-like Disney Park and a Board that is too passive to oppose him. The current state of TD association amenities is great. It’s the future development we have to be vigilent about. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the property owners in TD(located all over the US) appear to be extremely passive as well. They won’t be when our HO dues shoot up to 3k a year. But by then it will be too late. WIth ‘state-of-the-art’ amenities and everything costing a small fortune to use.

Prior reviewer is unfamiliar with planned communities. While not cheap you get what you pay for. Tahoe Donner assoc costs about 1,300 dollars per year, giving us access to ten million dollars worth of amenities. If you see some of the junky neighborhoods in Truckee you’ll appreciate the oversight of an HOA like Tahoe Donner.

The dues they charge are like carrying a second mortgage, especially when you add the fact that you and your guests still have to pay every time you use the place. It seems like an all inclusive resort until they hit you with their policies. If you live in Tahoe Donner and are a parent, DONOT try to take your children sledding on any of the public properties. You will be rudely kicked out by some arrogant twirp who tells you its a liability and you must leave. Of course, the Tahoe Donner employees can not spell liability. FAMILIESAREPROHIBITED from sledding on the driving range and golf course during winter because they say its a liability. The monkeys are running the circus! Good Grief. Buy or rent somehwere else, its not worth it. If you are looking for laid back Tahoe, this is not it. All Tahoe Donner properties are over priced as a result of the Association fees, policies and prohibitions. Parents in Tahoe Donner know this is a problem and that the association is mismanaged… BEWAREOFADDITIONALREVIEWSINTENDEDTOCREDITTHISREVIEWPOSTEDBYTAHOEDONNERSTAFFMEMBERS.
