Don’t be fooled this place is NOT similar to Taco Urbano at all! Which is very eerie because it is the same décor, chairs, tables and even the way it is set up. When we walked it there was a guy who was eating that greeted us. I think he was the cook, because he promptly got up and went to the back. I have a feeling it is pretty slow there because someone was knitting and the even leave their purses in the front on a chair. Maybe they wanted the«at home» feel. The menu is very limited, one side has Mexican food and the other side has Caribbean food. The menu that was given to us «had the wrong prices» but I didn’t pay attention to the differences. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was pretty tasteless. I mean it had beans, chicken, and pico in it and everything seemed dried out. Also, they spelled ‘quesadilla’ wrong on the menu. The salsas all kinda of tasted the same but one was very watery and the other a bit chunkier. I think if they are going to last they are going to need to make a lot of changes. They received two stars because they were quick and very friendly.

To be completely honest, we came in here thinking it was still the incomparable Taco Urbano, but found it had changed hands and is now Desert Island Eatery. We were very hungry so we stayed for lunch anyway. The restaurant is full-service and seems to serve typical quick Mexican food, mostly tacos and burritos, with choices of filling like carne asada, bean and cheese, chicken, etc. They also have a Caribbean menu of jerked meat. The menu advertises that the food is made with locally produced eggs and meat. Breakfast burritos are served till noon, and all day on the weekend. We had a bean and cheese burrito, a quesadilla, and some potato salad. The Mexican food was similar to what you would get at Nico’s, but with slightly higher quality ingredients. The potato salad was quite good, with lots of mix-ins like pieces of boiled egg and vegetables. The food came out quickly, and the service was very attentive. My impression is that they may still be revising the menu, as the place has literally just opened in the last couple of weeks, so take this whole review with a grain of salt.
