I came into Sher-E-Punjab last week to buy a saree for a wedding. I was a little nervous to step in here alone, having no idea what I was looking for or what would be appropriate to wear to a Sikh wedding. I was greeted by a younger woman who asked me lots of questions and I told her that all I really wanted was to show respect to the families, not spend a lot of money on a saree I would probably never wear again… but that I wanted to fit in. She layed out several beautiful sarees in just about every color and in different degrees of «flashiness». I narrowed it down to a color I wanted and she then gave me several more options in the teal color I chose. I tried them on and finally made a decision. While I was changing she found several options of jewelry for me to wear and then showed me various ways to wrap my dupatta and also took the time to explain how to conduct myself while at the wedding so as not to offend any of the more traditional family members. I was more than pleased with the time that all the employees here took to not only help me find something appropriate to wear but also keep me within my budget and also help me understand their culture enough to feel comfortable being a guest at the upcoming wedding.
