I have been waiting for this location to open! Super clean and employees are very friendly. Such great cheese steaks. Don’t forget to get a punch card! :)

I always enjoyed sandwiches from The Cheese Steak Shop. I been to many franchises from Oakland, Union City to Pleasanton. They are almost all the same. I think this one is probably one of the cleaner ones, although at a small little spot, it’s very easy to order. No line when I was there, I hope it doesn’t mean that they are slow. I happen to be there at around 7PM on a Saturday night. This place is all good,.

Finally checked it out and was pleasantly surprised. Awesome food and great service! Best cheesesteak shop I’ve been to.

Miss the Cheese Steaks we use to eat when we lived in SF. Planed a trip to the city, yep. just for a Cheese Steak, then I learned there was one right near me. So convenient! It used to be the old Quizno’s location. There’s several shops next door and the parking is limited.
I ordered the classic and it did not disappoint. The garlic fries were good, we ordered a large which didn’t seem that large to me. I wonder what a small would have looked like. My son ordered the Premium with Bacon. He said it was good, but couldn’t taste much of the Bacon.
On their website, there’s a place to order online and avoid the line. I clicked on the link but it didn’t work. Need to fix the link if you’re offering online ordering. Otherwise, will go back when the Cheese Steak crave hits again.

It’s called «The Cheesesteak Shop» nOt «Philly» cheesesteak shOp for a reason. I’ve had cheesesteaks from Geno’s, Pat’s, Jim’s, Ishkabbibles’s and Max’s so I know a gOod «Philly» cheesesteak but as Cali hoagies go, this is the best bet. Sweet peppers, hot peppers, peppered peppers be the bizness. More expensive than Bob’s but more flavorful as well. Only time will tell… Mortal Kombat! «Choose your destiny!»

This place is the truth! Great philly cheese steaks that keep you always coming back. I usually go to the one up in San Francisco on Divisadero, but I was stoked when I saw the place visiting family in Union City. Went in and got cheese steaks for the whole family, and everyone loved it! Great service too as the owners hooked it up with some drinks when I told them how I love the franchise! Keep it up guys!

I believe in second chances, so when the manager Josh, responded to my previous Unilocal review I decided to come back and try it again.
I ordered the King of Philly and a normal order of garlic curly fries. This time it was definitely stacked with meat and the bread was toasted perfectly. The meat was seasoned this time and not bland which made my experience much better than last time. My only issue was the quantity of the fries. I know I didnt order a large, but theres barely enough to even fill up half of the basket… They were definitely more cooked than before too, but still a bit greasy.
Overall, the food tastes better, all of the workers use gloves while preparing the food (Yes, I read other reviews), but the portions for their fries is still lacking. Keep it up!

I’ve been here a handful of times now. I love how close it is to union landing and target! Most of the workers here are on the younger side but I’ve always had a good experience. There isn’t much to say because this is a franchised chain and they’re all the same. Not that that’s a bad thing. I like knowing that I can visit any location and get the same sandwich each time.
I always go for the 7″ mushroom with everything on it (onions, red and green peppers). I’ve recently started adding extra cheese. Now, it IS $ 1.29 BUT it makes it so much better. If you’re really hungry, add fries and a drink to make it w combo for an extra $ 2.99. But if you want a different side, my friends like to pick up lumpia at the Filipino place next door.
They only had a few packets of crystal hot sauce left in the tray. I only use one on my sandwich for a tiny extra kick with each bite. Don’t forget to wash your hands in the single, unisex bathroom before chowing down! Also, pass on the (ph)rench dip as it’s just the sandwich with a side of fairly salty au jus.

I just finished a 10″ King of Philly sandwich and loved it. What really stood out was how friendly the staff was. They were so nice. I will come back the next time I am in town for sure.

Josh, one of the manager reached out to me and personally responded back to my post regarding my first visit. He stated that they did change their food handling procedures and that all employees now wear gloves.
I went back and sure enough every single employee was wearing gloves and properly handling food.
I got a sandwich on the house and it was great! Would come back again.

PISSED! Do not walk. RUN!
I read the other reviews, but chose to dismiss them and make my own review. And like the other reviewer stated they DO NOT handle food properly.
We order 2 steaks, fries, and a soda.
Nobody wore gloves! And then as I ate my steak, there was HAIR in my food! Ugh!!!

Garlic fries tasted good. Nice little spot. My sandwich was filled with tons of delicious steak. They added peppers and onion which gave it more flavor. The curly fries also tasted good. And on top of everything, service was great.

Very skimpy on the meat :(unless you get the king size than its just the normal amount. The flavor is good it just needs more meat!

Went to this place for the first time, and I was definitely satisfied! I got the King Of Philly and curly fries. They made it all FRESH! Like you can see the guy cook your food. That’s what I liked most. The sandwich was great! They don’t hold back when it comes to meat, Like some places do… They fill that Sammie up!!! The fries were amazing. Probably some of the best fries I’ve ever had.
What I liked the most was the service and employees. Everyone was nice, even the cook gave a friendly wave. Bunch of young dudes working there which gives it that new age feel but the décor is definitely old school diner hole in the wall type, which isn’t a bad thing!
My order took about 5 – 10 minutes to make, which isn’t too long honestly. But the cashier still apologized for the wait, which shows great customer service in my book, even though the wait wasn’t long at all! So you can tell they care about their customers. Another plus!
All in all: great place to eat! Friendly Service! Quality Food! The sign on the wall says «CAUTION: MAY BE HABIT FORMING» and that is 100% TRUE. I will be back!

So today I was craving for a cheesesteak. I Unilocaled and found a newly opened «the philly cheesesteak shop» right in the hood of union city. Its off of Whipple and medallion next to nayong flipopino and across is double o. It’s pretty small but enough tables. I’m sure the guy at the counter is the owner. He was nice and helpful. I ordered the mushroom steak and steak fries. It took alittle more time but the food came. I’ve been to a few of the chain places and it tasted like the rest. Nice cheesy mushroom flavor with the peppers and onions. Since the cooks looked young and new I’ll grade it on a curve. Not bad, quite tasty and satisfying. The cheese could have been cooked a bit less. It was just a tad liquid as it was running down onto the paper as I take bites. Overall, It’s IN My Hood And I’ll continue to eat there When I crave For The philly. Jersey Joe’s in san carlos rules though.

We came here 15 min before it closed. The staff was friendly and nice. They didn’t seem to complain about us coming in last minute. Nice small place, Not bad… but the sandwiches were ok. I liked the spinach and mushroom verses the classic. The pickled peppers were pretty good on the sandwiches. The meat was tender. The garlic fries were a little greasy but overloaded on garlic; still tastes good though. Their condiments of mustard, ketchup and ranch were unlimited and to-​go containers were available. Sodas were refillable as well. I don’t mind coming back but it won’t be regularly… there are other Philly sandwiches places better like Jersey Joe’s. That place is much better than here. ;-)

Great service, food is solid, price is average. I got The King of Philly, and they stuffed it with meat and cheese. Didn’t need sides to get me full, the cheese steak did the job.

Modern décor, plenty of seating, friendly staff, amazing food AND only a five minute walk from my house?! Sounds like a winner!
This place officially opened up about a month ago, and from all the happy satisfied faces I saw when I went this afternoon, I can say that you won’t be disappointed here! This building used to house an old Quizno’s many many years ago, but the new owners did some renovating and moved some things around and it looks brand spankin new!
I went during lunch time and it was relatively busy which is great for the new owners seeing as how the location isn’t the best. (It’s kinda hard to see if you aren’t looking for it… Just remember it’s next door to Nayong Filipino and across the street from 00 Liquors!) On this visit I tried the Pepperoni cheese steak with a side of curly fries and it is absolutely delicious! The fries? To die for! The cheese steak? Full, flavorful, fantastic!
This is a welcome addition to Union City and I can see this place staying around for many, many years. Keep up the great work guys!
