Whistle Stop Cafe

We drove from Melissa and wanted to stopped in. Got here at 935 walked in and no one was on the floor. Waited thinking they were in the back nothing. Went back to the truck 2 more people attempted to come in to eat also left. Door sign conflicts with hours posted here. Restaurant opens at 11 per door sign. 11am seems late for breakfast to me. We hope to try again sometime soon but breakfast is out unless hours change.

We just love it… I’m not a big eater being able to order 3 appetizers because they offer half orders is AWESOME all three were amazing especially the Fried Green Tomatoes they were so crispy Perfection!

Food is very good. CFS is awesome. CF Chicken is awesome. Pattymelt is very good.
Service is great unlike most places with young waitstaff have poor service. We really like Samantha and prefer to go when she is working. Owners are very attentive. We go about twice a month.
A little expensive.
Hoping for a lighter warm weather menu for the summer.

Needed some comfort food on a Saturday night. Called in to-​go order. Meatloaf was on point, including finishing it off on the flat-​top. No sauce/​ketchup on top, which was nice. Skin-​on mashed potatoes were excellent. They even mix the greens for the side salad. Ready to come back and try the catfish on a Friday or Saturday, as well as the breakfast on Saturday/​Sunday.

Start with positives. Atmosphere is on point. Exposed brick walls, tin roof party room, western feel, country music playing.
Service was near perfect, smiling faces, prompt service and drink check ups.
Now to the not as positive. BUT, not all bad by any means .
Had the chicken fried steak (in my opinion should be a staple of any diner type place in the south) I was not thrilled with it. Cooked nice not a bad breading or crust. The issue with the chicken fried was the flavor/​seasoning. It lacked both. Perhaps a change in marinating or seasoning time/​proportions would help. Needs more salt. Size was good. Split with wife with two sides and small salad included. Salad was predictably small but strawberry vinaigrette was delicious. We had green beans w/​bacon (very good) and Mac and cheese (same lack of seasoning as chicken fried) It was plenty for us.
Writing this live waiting on peach cobbler dessert. Great coffee though.
Ok peach cobbler was above average, a nice up tick to end meal on.
Overall I will give this place another go at some point because of the feel at home atmosphere and the excellent service. I think the food needs a few tweaks but the salad and sides/​desserts show promise.
