A few nights ago the boyfriend was having a craving for Chinese, and decided on Imperial Palace as it is fairly close by. I’m not a big fan of Americanized Chinese restaurants to begin with… and let me tell you this one really lowered the bar. We got our to go order home and opened it up. The«orange chicken» was extremely soggy… the pieces had literally all clumped together in the container, with the soaked breading falling off of them. They tasted bland and watery with a faint hint of lemon. The whole mess was sitting in a puddle of clear-ish, watery liquid, and honestly, it looked and smelled like someone had vomited into the container. It was seriously that unappealing. «Orange chicken»? More like a heaping box of nasty. I choked down one disgusting piece and that was it. The fried rice was dry and flavorless, and the pan fried noodles were even worse. Dry, limp, bland, flavorless pieces of SPAGHETTINOODLES. I passed on that too. The fried shrimp were, sadly, the best part… but that’s not saying much. The sweet and sour sauce was sickly sweet(think high fructose corn syrup), bright reddish — pink, and tasted like it came out of a can. Definitely will not be ordering here again. The food is seriously like something off of Worst Cooks in America. Wish i could get my $ 36 back! At least my boyfriend liked his(likely imitation) crab puffs.

Apparently they have changed ownership. I have been going there for years and last night was not very good My almond chicken Subgum tasted like very bitter garlic. Will probably never go back which makes me feel sad. Used to be the best.

I think it was maybe 2012 when last I had the best Shrimp Fried Rice from Imperial Palace? My husband and I had ordered this single dish from IP for years since we moved into the neighborhood in 2003. It was so good; we’d do takeout and could hardly wait to get home to open the white container that was tightly packed with the best«American-style» Chinese shrimp fried rice because our car would be covered in the amazing aroma. The way it smelled was exactly how it tasted, loved it! Then something changed… We didn’t get that same aroma from the takeout bag, and when we got home and opened the white container, we discovered something that didn’t resemble the«old» shrimp fried rice; it just looked like it was doused in soy sauce yet still looked dry. The aroma wasn’t there, hence the flavor wasn’t either. It tasted how it smelled and looked: white rice doused in soy sauce. It was so disappointing that we couldn’t even finish it. We asked the owner if there was a change with the cooks, and were told that nothing’s changed. But, it did. We tried to go back every now and then hoping that one container was just a fluke. It wasn’t. Each time thereafter was the same thing, disappointing. What a bummer for us because we loved that old shrimp fried rice recipe so much.

Went there while visiting and ordered sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice and pot stickers to go. Food took about 20 minutes with nobody in the restaurant at all. Sweet and sour chicken came in a to go container mixed in sweet and sour sauce. When asked where the container of sweet and sour sauce was she stated she dumped the sauce inside on the chicken. So we head home to eat. The sweet and sour chicken is soggy because she decided to cover it with the sauce instead of putting it Ina separate container like every other Chinese restaurant in America. The potstickers were plump with huge chunks of dark meat. Daughter said they were terrible. The rice was okay with big cubes of pork. Not the best and not the worst. I did check out the reviews prior to going and figured I’d see for myself. Well I saw that the lower reviews were more accurate. Never again!

I remember eating here as a child with my mother and my grandparents. I think it was pretty much the only Chinese Restaurant in the neighborhood back then. I went in recently to grab a quick bite since it was close to work and I didnt have much time for lunch on that day. They have a lunch buffet, now… but I ordered from the menu, instead. The food was nothing to crow about, thats for cure. The service was friendly, bbut lacking any real personality and the older woman working there seemed confused the entire time, and clearly spoke/understood minimal English. Maybe we were there on an off day… it happens to everyone on occasion. I will probably try again to be sure.

Always hot and fresh. Employees are friendly and they do an especially good job with take-out.

Ok, so I absolutely love this place. Nobody else I bring here feels the way I do, but I don’t care. The portions and the flavor are both fantastic. They make substitutions to their family meals for little to no charge. I always get it to go because the restaurant hasn’t been updated in the last 20 years of my patronage. You really can’t get better than divey Chinese!

Absolutely DISGUSTED, the egg flower soup was like gelatin and had no flavor. Our broccoli beef smelled like rotten meat. We were scared to even eat it. The three of us didn’t even eat it, told the waitress it was awful and she happily took our card and charged us anyways. DONOT eat here… If the health inspector was to show up, this place would be shut down.

I have been coming to this restaurant since the early 70’s and we have celebrated many birthdays anniversaries and other occasions but I think they must have traded hands recently. The last few times they have been slow and want to charge extra for everything. Even things that you want to trade for that are cheaper on the menu.(Have been making this switch for 25 years). Last night was the last time we eat here. Ordered a side order of crab puffs my favorite. There was only 6 in the bag. The portions keep getting smaller the quality worse And the price goes up. We had $ 30 worth of food and only got 2 fortune cookies and only 4 red sauces when we had shrimp crab puffs and BBQ pork. Not a happy camper at that point. My Granddaughter had asked for extra we probably would have only got 1 had she not. Use to be a great place but not Anymore. Oh not to mention you have to walk past all the bar smokers to get in the door.

My family orders food from here all the time for pick up. We love the large portions and great prices. I only gave it 4 stars because we actually went here and sat down to eat and were less than impressed. The service was somewhat slow and we had the same problem that others have mentioned that our food came out at different times. The place is little dingy and desperately needs to be updated. We will continue to order take out, but have no plans of eating in the actual restaurant anytime soon!

This place is a complete toss up, no matter how I try to classify it or rate it with stars I waffle all over the place. Sometimes, when I am out making sales calls away from the store I need something fast but I just don’t feel like fast food, so I come here, they have a very reasonably priced lunch buffet. Sometimes I park my car and I actually sit there for a moment and wonder which Imperial Palace I will encounter today. Usually the service is pretty good, sometimes the servers aren’t great with English and I think that makes people think they are rude, and while I have had serves that have been, shall we say distracted, I have never had one that was out right rude. The food is your basic garden variety Americanized Chinese food. I will give them high marks for the won tons and pot stickers and barbecued pork. The green beans, which I love, can be sometimes a little off or overcooked, but when they are right they are awesome. Since I usually just hit the lunch buffet I will say that it is nothing special, everything is pretty typical for a place like this. However, I have tried it many times and I have to give low low marks for the hot and sour soup. It is usually not sour or too spicy or sometimes it is neither hot nor sour. The egg drop soup is ok. Yes the outside is in great need of a remodel, but not nearly as much as the inside. The place is probably the same as it was in the late 1970’s, but that has little to do with the food. Half the places I love need a remodel. I’ll keep coming here until they give me a solid reason not to.

Been here a half hour and still waiting on food, oh yeah we are the only ones here… Lady serving is slow and lazy. At this time, only leaving 3 stars bcs we haven’t received service yet. Will update after food, which we still haven’t gotten. So the food is amazing that’s why it’s getting 4 stars, but the service sucked! The lady was rude, acted like it was inconvenient that she had to wait on us. Well they are open until midnight, not our fault you had to work! No reason to be so RUDE! However the food was delicious! Crab puffs AMAZING!!! Eggs rolls were amazing. So next time we will go earlier so we don’t inconvenience the staff. but would recommend this place for takeout for sure!,

I will be honest, this is a dingy little place. But my parents and I have gone there for decades and have never been disappointed. The lunch buffet(strict hours) is under $ 6 pp including the tea! Not a huge selection but the foods they put out are always hot and very tasty. Crab puffs, divine!!! Egg rolls, splendid. Beef and broccoli, fried rice, noodles, egg foo young, tempura chicken and shrimp, barbecue chicken, chicken chow mien, and all the sweet and sour sauce you need. The egg flower soup is to die for. I guess I’m letting the cat out of the bag because this place is my(dirty) little secret. A family owned place you’ve got to try.

Awful, just awful the only thing worth positive mention are the huge portions. However the quality is crap, it used to be better but they’ve gone down hill. THEYUSESPAGHETTINOODLESFORTHELOMEIN! I haven’t seen that since I ate Chinese food in the Florida keys(don’t ever do that by the way) take out will cost you around 30 bucks for 2 people, and don’t ever go to the lunch buffet. They lie about the price(myself and a 3 year old was 16 dollars) and you have about 7 selections that don’t get replenished. When you ask how long it’ll be until, you know, THEYSERVEFOOD, they say, «oh yeah, fife minie.» 30 mins later, «oh yeah, mo food, fife minie. Only reason this shit hole got 2 stars is because there are worse Chinese places in the world, but they’re all in Florida. Avoid a huge disappointment and go to taste of Asia, where at least everything is slightly above average…

When it comes to Chinese, I try not to judge a book by its cover. In the case of the Imperial Palace, the outside is all I needed to see. Upon entering my internal warnings were firing, «This is a mistake! Turn around!» But I found comfort seeing two other tables occupies. For an early Sunday afternoon, that’s pretty good. I was pleased to see Lunch Specials on a Sunday. The hubs ordered General Tsao Chicken and I ordered the Cashew Chicken with no peppers or onions. We also ordered potstickers for an appetizer, as we had the kids with us and we intended to eat family style. Our waitress was lovely and attentive. I have no complaints about her. When she brought us our soup, my stomach dropped. I had ordered the egg flower and I have to admit, I was VERY put off by the lack of color. The broth was as clear as water. That combined with the white noodles, left me in a rough place. It did have an ok flavor, but it was hard to get passed the appearance. My husband ordered the hot and sour soup. He reported that it tasted nice, but was having a hard time getting past it’s smell. I agreed. The odor of his soup was very pungent. I could not believe he actually are the soup with as bad as it smelled. Next our food did not come out together. Our appetizer of potstickers cam out with my husband’s entrée. I then waited another five minutes for mine. I enjoyed the size(they are HUGE) and flavor of the pot stickers. The sauce was awful and really just taste of a reduced soy sauce. It was far too salty. What ever was stuck to the side of the sauce bowl(see pic) didn’t come off either. When my cashew chicken, I will admit I was fairly disappointed. It was covered in celery(see pic). It resembled something along lines of subgum. Husband enjoyed his chicken. While there were some major bumps, our experience at imperial palace wasn’t entirely wasted. … Oh wait. It kind of was. So sorry. I will not return.

Solid 3 stars. Food is good and you get large portions for the price. Chinese food is not my favorite but I enjoy coming here once in awhile. Have been frequenting Imperial Palace for years. Looks shady on the outside but it’s okay once inside. Waitress was nice tonight. Be back next year to get my yearly Chinese food fix.

Great happy hour food items & prices, drinks are well poured, food is really good. They have the best Pot Stickers I have ever had! BF always gets their Won Ton Soup, I try something new every time I go, and haven’t gotten anything I haven’t liked yet! Great service in the lounge!(only side I’ve ever been in)

Very slow service. Better then it was months ago when I was here. Posted a review but you can buy Unilocal to take it off. Giving Unilocal a zero star. Chinese food should be fast and it’s not and not busy

I love this place! One of the best Chinese restaurants in Vancouver. I’ve never had a bad experience. I’ve been in for lunch, dinner, the lunch buffet, & happy hour. If you want a stiff drink for super cheap, this is the place to go! They have a decent amount of food on happy hour in the bar. The buffet is good. My favorites here are Lemon, Orange, Sweet & sour, sesame, kung pao, cashew, and mar far chicken! I love their bbq pork, won tons, pot stickers & crab puffs for appetizers. Whenever my friends want to go get Chinese food I always suggest here & this place quickly becomes their favorite too. The staff is so nice & awesome. And the bartenders here way cool too. There’s a lot regulars that go into the bar & all of them are always so nice too. They may not have the best décor & it might be a little bit out dated(I remember coming here when I was like 5yr old & it hasn’t changed décor wise). There’s a reason why so many happy customers keep on coming back for 10+ years
