I’ve been back a few times to pick up snacks, party goods and paraphernalia for my desk and the cashiers haven’t gotten any less snooty or off-putting. I’ll stop visiting this location and try the one on Hilltop. Buh-bye!

This review will be short and not-so-sweet for two reasons: (1) We weren’t in the store that long. (2) The customer service here is less than stellar. I stopped in earlier today(at around 2:00, I believe) with a friend because he needed to purchase a speaker for his IPOD. We walked in and decided to start on the right side of the store and work our way around(because that’s how fun Five Below is). You can’t just come in, grab what you need, and go. I don’t remember being greeted by anyone when we first entered the store. I’m not the type of customer to throw a hissy fit if I’m not greeted immediately, but it is note-worthy considering the fact that the customer service we experienced during this visit was super-cali-frag-ilistic-expi-crap-tastic. We walked around the store looking at all of the goodies and fun stuff they had, and so far we were having a pretty good time. I noticed a couple of things that I’d like to purchase the next time I visit(like those cool, bright-colored water bottles in the far left-hand corner of the store, sidewalk chalk, nail polish, etc.). We went to the checkout counter and that’s where it became weird. There were two cashiers: one was a young man wearing a beanie, and the other was an older woman with blonde hair. There was a large group of people at the first checkout counter(a woman with a baby in a stroller, a man, and one or two smaller children). My friend walked around the display boxes at the front of the store in an attempt to get to the second cashier. He didn’t realize that there was someone on their way up to that register. Apparently, there was a woman who was trying to get through and check out at that second register. The cashier told my friend«She’s coming up,» to which my friend replied«Oh, I’m sorry. I thought they were all together.» My friend walked back around to wait in line. When she was done checking out the people in front of us, the blonde woman called us up. She didn’t seem too happy or friendly. I don’t even remember her saying«Hello.» In fact, I don’t remember her saying anything other than what my friend’s total was. Honestly, if it weren’t for my friend and I talking to one another, the entire transaction would’ve been silent and awkward. As we walked away, my friend said«I guess customer service just isn’t important today.» I was thinking the exact same thing, and it was disappointing, to say the least. This won’t stop me from coming to this location again, but it’d be nice if their employees actually spoke to us. It doesn’t even have to be an overzealous«Hi!» or «How are you?» A simple«Hello» would suffice. My ruling: Five Below has a wonderful assortment of fun products for people of all ages, which I, a big kid, can fully appreciate. However, the experience that I had today has significantly depreciated my view of the store and how it values customer service and the customer experience.

Five below is a HUGE step up from any dollar store. There are so many cool little knick knacks, toys, sports gear(mostly Redskins stuff that I noticed), games, school supplies, CANDY, party supplies(ala Frozen). I mean, don’t come here expecting to find that magical gift for your significant other, come here for stocking stuffers and the like. Oh and since its the holiday season, be prepared for a long line… everyone likes a good deal. Me, I came here and found the greatest game ever — Doody head.

Busy season for the holidays and I came in for a $ 5 micro-usb plug and I found several frozen puzzle to go 3 for $ 5. Not a bad deal at all. But at checkout, not only they don’t take American Express, only VISA and MASTERCARD, but a debit card will automatically ring as a credit card. Come on! a local thrift store can do better than this. Other than this, no complains.
