Decent breakfast. Good size portions and clean. Food was OK, I ordered the«local’s» with French toast, sunny side up eyes, and sausage. I also got a waffle. The French toast was soggy and soft, the eggs were good not over cooked or over runny, one sausage patty was over cooked the other was ok, and the waffle was average. Overall just a ok home style breakfast.

My daughter really enjoyed Marys. It was fantastic. I got a vegetable omelet with a side of salsa and sarah got chocolate chip pancakes. We shared biscuits and gravy. There is no way we could have finished all this food. It was all fabulous. Great gravy with great seasonings. While we were eating they were fresh grinding beans for the wonderful coffee. I would recommend this location for everyone!

Simple breakfast and for cheap. Biscuits are huge too. Don’t get suckered in to the adequate eats on the boardwalk.

Best fried catfish I’ve found around here and the homemade mac was so creamy! They offer so many sides and their Belgium waffle is something to be reckoned with. Menu price points are about $ 7-$ 11 a plate and the food arrived before we knew it. Servers could be more welcoming though. Worth trying!

Let me explain my rating. As a breakfast place this is a 4. Very down home local place. Very clean and fresh. I had the creamed chipped beef and loved it! Coffee wasn’t that great but I think I am a coffee snob. People were nice. We’d go again.

This a a great place for breakfast and lunch. The food is like home made comfort food. Big portions for a little money and popular with the locals. Can’t beat the daily lunch specials but call ahead as they sell out, ready at 11am ’til sold out. Best short ribs and mash and gravy with Big biscuit and side choice, under $ 8.

If I could give out ten stars it wouldn’t be enough. Biscuits and gravy are amazing VA smoked sausage outstanding even the scrambled eggs were very tasty. Belgian waffle delectable they even offered to heat up the maple syrup. The service was outstanding, this place rocks. Great food and Great value.

Food her is pretty good and at this point, I eat breakfast almost once a week here. The thing that irks me is the amount of staff they have on the floor, yet they are overwhelmingly poor at being attentive. One week I was seated and never attended to after 15 minutes, so I left. I don’t think I’ve ever been offered a refill or been checked on after food was served. I simply come for the food at this point. They’re open very early if you’re an earlybird like myself too which is nice. The Baltic Burrito is decent, but it needs the salsa that it comes with, the Biscuits and Gravy are very tart to me. Otherwise most of their dishes are pretty good and food rolls out quick.

I can see why this is a locals place. It’s clean, its«homey» and not fancy in the way that tourist traps can be. There is kitsch(surfboards on the wall, etc.) but it seems to fit, seems to work in this«cute little place». The food was good. I got a chessesteak omelet, it was hot, cheesy and well made. The hasbrowns were okay if unevenly crisped. The biscuit was nice, fluffy and warm when it arrived. This was a good solid meal at a nice little place. I would seek this place out on another visit. The people are fun, sweet as southern iced tea and competent. [One thought on this-not particularly a cristicsm of Mary’s]. This seems to be a problem in many places that I have been to. Even if they get the rest of the plate right, the hasbrowns seem like some kind of after thought. I have had the over crisped plate wide potato chip and the plate of steamed semi-mash [that was really wrong]. Perhaps someday I will open a place called Hash-Browns and cleverly sell legal marijuana and actual shredded potato’s cooked properly– of course if the patron lights up at the table they may not care about the quality of the dish.

Seeing the Fascist(Fox) News Channel on the screen makes a good breakfast QUEASY! Will not eat here ever again! By playing that channel on the screens, you’re endorsing Fascism, sexism, and racism, along with Donald Trump!***I don’t shove MSNBC down on my Über customers through XM radio, why should this business be shoving fascist politics on people who don’t believe the same way that«Mary» does!***Further, The server who has blonde hair, a ponytail, and classes is very curt and nasty. She just seems to have an issue with constructive criticism him and not taking things that other people feel in a good way. Her response to my verbal feelings against the Fox news network being aired work«sorry about your luck!»

Love this place. Staff is warm and friendly. Service is fast and exceptional. Lots to pick from on the menu. The side items have their own placard because there are so many. The fried green tomatoes are the best! Two can eat for less than $ 20.

Took them a while to come up to our booth for drinks and order but after the initial order, service was fast and prompt — my cup of tea was never near empty as there was always someone available to fill it up in no time! Very friendly staff, and the place was a whole lot bigger than what it looked from the outside — booth galore! Now for the food — it wasn’t anything spectacular, but it was good comfort food and in my world, breakfast food is always a good choice so it’ll be hard to disappoint me with the standard sunny side up eggs, turkey bacon, a few pancakes and french toast. Which reminds me, wayyy too much powdered sugar on the french toast, even for me! I’d go back, mostly because it is so close to the ocean and because it is a cheap, filling breakfast.

This is the perfect place to eat whether it’s breakfast, lunch or early dinner. The staff is great and professional. My favorite is the Haddock fish and chips

Mary’s is my favorite breakfast place in Virginia Beach. I’ve been going there for about 20 years now ever since I first found it. Great breakfast, and you can’t beat the prices. I can’t find Creamed Chipped Beef(SOS) anywhere, anymore. But Mary’s has it, and it’s delicious as are their grits! Nice homey atmosphere with a friendly and fast wait staff. Look forward to Mary’s everytime I’m in town.

I enjoy Mary’s typically each time I go. Quick seating and friendly staff. However the last few visits the food has been horrible. Today I ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The biscuits and gravy were good which I’ve ordered in the past. The bacon was like cardboard, way to crispy and burnt. Should have never been served. Also ordered the steak and eggs — not on the menu but a «special» — there was nothing special about it. Steak was gross, cheap and fatty. Not cooked per request. Asked for my hash browns to be extra crispy which came out saturated in butter/crisco– so gross. Overall not a great meal, while the price is great on all items the quality has went down since past visits.

I moved to the beach a couple of months ago, and have been looking for a place like this. I had the Local Breakfast. Good eggs, great price. Really good service. I will definitely be putting this on my list of places to go regularly. If you want a laid back atmosphere, and a good breakfast… this is the place.

Great breakfast! I will likely be back. The biscuit was amazing! And my best friend destroyed his chicken and waffles. The service was great and very quick even though they were busy. The waitresses filled our coffee and water every time we even got close to being empty.

This is my favorite breakfast joint in Virginia Beach! I’ve been coming here since I was very little and always make a point to come back when I’m in town visiting. I always get the local’s favorite– it’s got a little bit of everything! They have fantastic pancakes and I love their scrambled eggs with cheese. The bacon is pretty typical, nothing out of this world, but not bad at all. Their coffee is pretty good, not very strong but not watered down. The staff are very friendly and attentive, even when they’re very busy, which is often! Even if you have to wait, it’s never too long. There’s no place I’d rather go for breakfast in Virginia Beach. This is a great spot if you want to get a feel of what the locals in the area like.

Great place! We stopped for breakfast and the food was very good. I had the chicken and waffles, my husband had the Neptune special. We were pleased with the service and our waitress was absolutely wonderful! Definitely going to stop back on our next trip.

On our way into Virginia Beach a couple of weeks back, we stopped at Mary’s Restaurant for breakfast. Located just four blocks inland from the touristy beach area, I’m told this is a local favorite. Upon our arrival just before 9 A.M. on a Sunday the restaurant wasn’t overly crowded and a table for nine was available right away. When we left the restaurant all the tables were full and there was a wait for any new customers. So get there early. For breakfast I ordered the biscuits and gravy($ 4.95) along with a side of home fries($ 1.79). The biscuits were nearly square-shaped and clearly homemade. They were dense and very good. The sausage gravy needed a touch of extra salt but was still good. The home fries also appeared to be fresh-cut and were cooked perfectly. The breakfast menu is quite large and definitely has something for everyone. Prices are very reasonable, omelets starting at $ 6, pancakes for under $ 4, and there is even an early bird special for those arriving before nine. Our service was quick and the food was all good to very good. This was a good find.

It’s breakfast(and other things) done right. I love going to Mary’s. From their pancakes, to their breakfast plates, even down to the simple things like poached eggs and homefries, Mary’s is delicious food. Even though their open hours center around breakfast and lunch, you can still score some tasty dinner items like fried pork chops or chicken and dumplings(the latter only available on Monday’s, I think). My first time at Mary’s, I got the chipped beef. I had never heard of it and I love trying new things. I was pleased. It wasn’t omg spectacular, but it definitely hit the spot. The menu is pretty impressive, so I try to get something different each time, but the chicken and dumplings have my heart. Way better than the ones at Cracker Barrel and I feel like I’m getting more for my money. Also, Mary’s is pretty affordable for the amount of quality their food has. The service is great. Always running around, asking if you need coffee, extra napkins, how your food is, just the way service is supposed to act. They’re really good people. For a while, I was only going to Mary’s because I didn’t know where else to get the chunky banana milkshake I like without making it myself. I got my mouth all set for one to be told that they don’t make shakes anymore! I honestly haven’t had a shake since then and it’s been almost a year. How sad is that? Good thing the cakes make up for it. The strawberry cake? Absolutely divine~ They also love kids. My little cousins were visiting out of town and the waitress had whipped cream eyes and a chocolate chip smile put on their pancakes. Mom says: «I like the idea that you can get whatever you want, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner and the servers are nice. The desserts are REALLYGOOD.» Stop by Mary’s if you have the chance. It’s just a small walk from the Boardwalk and it’s well worth it.

I don’t know what’s in their coffee but I wait all week for a cup. I love the seat yourself aspect and all waitresses are always nice. Very good breakfast. Food comes out quick and hot. I’ve been coming here for years and come almost 2 times a month.

I was once a regular at Mary’s until I took a full-time job in Nor. Mary’s is like your ‘Cheers’- typically they remember you & are all very kind. The breakfast food is delicious– always made well. I used to go for lunch often– they do everything very nicely! From sandwiches to fried chicken, this place reminds me of ‘home cooking’. No complaints– ever. Attentive, friendly service & great food every time. Oh, don’t forget to add a slice of pie!(They’re all amazing & home made)

Mary’s is a local institution, and my boyfriend, who lived here for a few months, has been wanting to try Mary’s for a long time. So on one of his last days in VB, we headed over for brunch. It’s seat yourself, and the waitresses are so nice that they’ll give you a cavity. It’s a cute little restaurant with surfboards mounted high on the walls. My boyfriend had the eggs benedict, and he thought their hollandaise was pretty good. I got the barbecue chicken, with spiced apples and macaroni salad. And damn was that chicken good. Such a huge portion, and super juicy at that. There was only one tiny little section that was dry. The sides were also amazing; even though I was dying because I was so stuffed with chicken, I managed to finish every bite(and take a great nap afterwards). I wish I had found Mary’s sooner. Delicious, friendly, and won’t break your wallet.

Very affordable diner with a small town feel. I got the«surf and turf» for breakfast, which was fried catfish, 2 eggs, home fries, and a biscuit for $ 9.99. It was very filling and everything was delicious! Definitely check out Mary’s… It’s a good place to go on a lazy, rainy weekend morning, or when you just don’t feel like cooking. :)

The hunger was real by the time we made it to Mary’s. We’d tried a couple other breakfast spots in the area and all were packed with waits much longer than our tummies could handle. Mary’s saved the day as we were seated right away and fed quickly. We ordered: — chocolate chip waffle — rise & shine: 2 egg whites, bacon, grits, biscuit — spinach & feta egg white omelet, home fries, wheat toast — orange juice And we wished we had tried out the pies and German Chocolate Cake looming at us from the diner counter, but we withheld from the temptation, at least this time. Now the quality of the food was nothing to speak of, but considering how famished we were at the time it was just right. Especially the biscuit. Perhaps it’s because we’re in the south, but every place I hit down here nails it when it comes to biscuits. There’s nothing like that dense, buttery crumb of a good biscuit. Props to Mary.

Popped in to eat what the locals are eating and found that the locals are eating pretty well. Overly friendly service from the waitress, but that’s not unexpected. I took a seat in what started off as a quiet section of the restaurant but immediately after ordering, two different parties took tables nearby and seemed to find a need to blather on loudly to each other about what events were coming up this weekend, even having an argument. Ugh. Locals. My eggs over easy, sausage patties and pancakes went down nicely, other than the racket. Plenty of decent coffee. Good stop. I’d go here again.

Oh man Mary’s Restaurant is super good and the prices are unbelievable. Came with a group of seven and it was not hard to get a table. We joined some tables together and there it was. The waitress was very helpful with the menu as well as with drinks. The wait for the food wasn’t bad at all. About 15 min, we went at around 2 so it was not that busy in there. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on wheat toast with american cheese and bacon. As well as home fries. It was soooo good. Their home fries are diced potatoes which are super soft and cooked perfectly. All it needed was a bit of pepper and ketchup. YUM! The sandwich tasted like a homemade sandwich that I would make for my family. It was super super good and the crunchiness of the bacon. Would come back if I am ever in the area again. This place is rockin!
