Looks like it’s stuck in the 80s but this place has some of the BEST pancakes I’ve ever had — and that’s pretty serious! I don’t know what they put it there but they’re amazing. I got the crab and shrimp omelette with spinach. It was good. Nice amount of shrimp and a generous portion of real crab meat. Mango mimosa was strong and tasty. The waiter was was sweet too

We really enjoyed our breakfast, and there are a lot of healthy selections on the menu, a whole section just for fruit and yogurt. I definitely would bring my family back again.

We are staying a block away and went there this morning for breakfast. Wife and daughter had pancake combos, son had a burger and I had the southern combo. Everything was excellent including service. Daughter also had a strawberry smoothie that was refreshing and tasty. Menu is extensive and impressive. The potatoes with my combo were grilled to perfection with onions. Would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a solid breakfast in VA Beach. Also, all the tourist coupon books have a coupon for Sunnyside.

Delicious waffles! Huge variety of breakfast foods. Extremely well-run with lots of help. Nice patio too. You can park in the Flagship Motel’s back lot.

Great place and in walking distance to many hotels. The waitstaff was very fast and friendly. The food was flavorful and well made. Price was comparable to others in the area. Clean. Will return.

Good may be good but will never know. Arrived and after finding someone to put our name on the list. I asked how long a wait. Was told 15 — 20 mins. Cool. Then returned to tell me we would need to sit outside. I said it’s freezing cold outside yep. Was informed I had no choice. I exercised my choice to find another spot. Really. Won’t try this place. I like local restaurants with great service. Didn’t find that here.

The French toast and pancakes were good, but it ends there. The food wasn’t even hot when it arrived. The eggs and sausage were terrible. The restaurant seemed very organized and nobody really knew what was going.

Stopped in for my first visit back in late October/early November of 2015. Had gone out earlier that morning for a morning walk to clear my mind and hit the halfway point(about 3 miles) when I realized that I needed to take a break and it was time to get a bite to eat. It was probably about 10 or 11 a.m. when I arrived. There were a few families and couples dining in. Not busy at all, although I assume it is considered the off-peak season that time of year. Seating area had a reasonable amount of seats for the space, although I can understand how quickly it can get packed during the peak season. The area was neat and clean, décor was cute, bathrooms were clean and well-stocked(on the small side, but I’m not one of those people who likes to camp out in there, so it works). My waiter was very polite and attentive. Initially ordered a fruit bowl(cantaloupes and strawberries), coffee, and a glass of water — since I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted something light or a heavier meal. Ended up ordering a waffle with two types of meat and 2 eggs over-easy. Food came out quickly. It was a little pricey(I think it was about $ 20-$ 25 total w/taxes & tip) considering I was eating alone; however, all-in-all it was money well-spent. Yes, I finished everything plus two or three glasses of water and a second refill of house coffee. During my meal, I noticed that the staff on duty that day got along well. There was back and forth banter with each other, out-of-town guests, and their regulars. Which is nice, reminded me of a diner back home that my family and I used to frequent when I was growing up. A pleasant dining experience all around. Took my boys there a few times on different visits and they love the place, too. Will definitely consider bringing family and friends here when they come in to town.

Went for brunch around 11am, we got seated immediately and greeted immediately. Our waitress was on top of everything and getting us more drinks before we were out. The food was awesome and the portions were larger than expected but now too much. Would definitely recommend it! We’ve went back twice more since this experience as its right near our hotel. Each time it has been more busy than the last but we’ve gotten seated almost immediately every time. Today(a Saturday morning) it was very busy and we maybe had to wait 5 minutes for a table. The food is always great. The service wasn’t as good as the first, but Is to be expected. With a larger crowd they can’t pay as much attention to you. But everything was still great.

My review, unfortunately, has to do with the discrimination the manager Gus displayed towards myself and my medical service dog. I have a medical disability that my service dog helps me with. My family and I are from out of town(within Virginia) and we went to have brunch at this café. They denied me access because of my service dog. He told me I needed to show paperwork that will allow her into restaurants. I clearly explained that paperwork is unnecessary(and illegal) but he continued to deny my entry. I told them that I would be happy to eat outside but my dog and I are a team and she has to remain by my side. Gus informed me that it was a personal policy that he won’t allow service dogs without«papers» and wouldn’t allow me to eat outdoors with her. I was not able to eat at this restaurant so I am unable to review on the quality of food or the service provided.

My husband and I tried out Sunnyside last weekend when some old friends of ours were passing through town and needed a good brunch and strong coffee to get them through their road trip. I remembered seeing Sunnyside when we were staying down at the Oceanfront but we never got a chance to try it, so we decided to give it a shot. At around 11 – 11:30am on a Saturday, they weren’t really that busy at all, which was great for us! Our waitress was polite and patient with us while we were catching up with our friends since we hadn’t seen them for at least 4+ years. The food was also pretty good as well. Our party all seemed to enjoy what they ordered, even the kids. I had the crab cake eggs Benedict(I’ve really missed Cinnamon’s on Oahu since we moved!) and it was delicious. The crab tasted good and fresh and was plentiful and the home fries were yummy too. My husband had one of the omelets and thought it was great too. We don’t really come down to the Oceanfront that much, but if we’re ever in the mood for breakfast or brunch again while in the area, we’ll definitely be coming back here to Sunnyside.

This place was alright — nothing to write home about though. The service was good — everyone was super friendly — but the food was«eh». Think Bob Evans at best — don’t expect gourmet breakfast grub here! I ordered their Classic Eggs Benedict and was pretty disappointed because their eggs weren’t poached properly — unfortunately, the yolks were overcooked. I was super bummed because the runny yolks are my favorite part! The dish came with a large side of breakfast potatoes. Their flavor was quite good, but they were again, overcooked, and let’s be real, no one likes smushy taters… unless you’re eating mashed potatoes, ha. [insert sad face here] It’s ok though. If I vacation in VA beach again, I’ll def. wake up extra early to try Doc Taylor’s or Citrus! There wasn’t a wait here though so if you’re in a hurry, this is a decent place to hit up. Food: 2 – 2.5 stars Service: 4 – 4.5 stars

Soooo I’m just gonna say it… Better than CITRUS… I guess distance matters but Sunnyside is right on the oceanfront with outdoor seating and great mimosas. I’ve been to citrus a few times and I like it… but this place takes the WAFFLE… I had the Sunnyside café omelet with crab, shrimp, smoked ham, swiss and I added hollandaise. with homefries… and not just some weird boxed potatoes. I’m talking real potatoes with some skin and onions… BANGERS… my fiancée ordered the breakfast sampler giving the option of two carbs french toast and half a Belgian waffle. I love waffles and french toast both are tasty but the waffle was a winner even though the battle was tough… this is going to be our new brunch place. I love love love it and the manmosa is wonderful treat… 4 manmosas and 2 meals came to 50 $… that ain’t bad at all. The service is very fast so be sure to enjoy your drinks and company then order… service is on point . Small place so you may sit closer to another party than expected but it’s the beach so it all works well… I will be back fo sho!

After a poor breakfast experience at a different oceanfront restaurant, I overruled my colleague and let Unilocal do the picking. We headed to Sunnyside and it’s excellent reviews. Good choice. He had eggs and sausage and a waffle. He enjoyed it thoroughly. I went for the crabcake benedict. It’s the Virginia Beach — how can you NOT have crab for breakfast lunch and dinner? The crabcakes were delish, the hollandaise was perfect and a small dash of hot sauce kicked up the excellent hash browns. My only complaint? The muffin underneath needed another«go through the toaster. A minor problem with an otherwise very good meal. Coffee(and iced tea) were refilled often. It was a really good meal and I’d say«Yes» to return.
