We ate here when it was A&W years and years ago when we were teenagers. Glad it’s still around. It is old, but that adds to the old style«feel» of the place. If you do not enjoy an old style car hop you must be dead inside! Now we stop here on our bikes to get root beer floats. We also love to drive the Galaxy convertible around the lake then stop here for a burger, dog, fries or whatever sounds tasty at the time… when the weather is just right. The food is tasty and the fried Oreos are to die for! Oh and they have the BEST tasting root beer. Not that cheap nasty shit you get at some places. Gotta appreciate a very tasty glass of root beer or a delicious float! The service is great too. The menu is right there in front of you when you pull up, seconds later you are greeted by a waitress in a 50’s style outfit who is ready to take your order. The food is delivered fast too. No complaints here! We keep coming back here. Perfect place to eat in the summer!!!

They have some root beer here, oooh eee. Good stuff. Deliciously crafted indeed, there’s an art to this classic drink and they have nailed it.

Greasy onion rings and fries, typical Drive Thru food that you can find anywhere. I thought that the prices were a little bit expensive for the amount of food.

Now called the Car hop, back when I was a kid it was an A&W. Good memories of coming here with my grandpa for footlongs and rootbeer. My brother and I checking out the old neighborhood and had to stop by for a rootbeer float. Hope this place stays around for another 30 years…

Sorry to say that Tom’s Root Beer Stand is no longer. This place is now called Carhop or something like that. I ordered a chili dog, fries and a root beer. I thought their prices were very high and the coney dog was the worst coney dog I’ve ever had. Doubt I’ll be going back.

Been going there for 13 years now. I like the set up. They do need to clean those benches though. Yet a great view of the lake. It’s sad that the place gets a new owner almost every year

Hell yes. Car hop service, milkshakes, fried eggs on bacon cheeseburrrrrrrgers. The service here is awesome, I heard one of the cooks call the car hop mom. We were coming from a gallery show in Walled Lake and this place came highly recommended with no disappointments. We tore through the burgers like a couple of Tyrannosaurs. They serve TATERTOTS! What a beautiful alternative to the late night coney spots of Detroit. Food after midnight never tasted so good. I love the concept of bringing back the hop. I plan to hit up this place relentlessly. Thank you Tom’s!

I miss this place, My bestfriend and I used to ride our bikes up here after a full day of swimming at Walled Lake(before it was polluted) and eat chili-fries and their AWESOME hamburgers to our hearts content. It DOESN’T get ANY better then this!!!

So nice, we went there twice! While killing time before meeting some friends, my boyfriend and I were driving along the lake and happened upon Tom’s. We will always stop for root beer, so we pulled into the little drive-in and ordered 2 frosty mugs, going out to the little picnic area to imbibe. This is my kind of root beer. Rooty, not too sweet. After we met our friends for dinner, we swung back by and grabbed a half gallon(they sell quarts and half gallons to go, for a very reasonable price) to take back to IL with us! I also got a Black Cow for the road. A blended root beer and ice cream«shake»(vs. a float), this was almost *too* creamy in its delicious richness! Yumm. We did not partake of the food but my uncle says he comes for lunch sometimes and that the burgers are okay. The highlight appears to be the eponymous root beer. The service was good: two very nice ladies. The digs are not fancy, but if you want some fine home-brewed root beer, take a swing around Walled Lake, raise your frosty mug, sip, and smile.

Tom’s is doing it’s part in keeping the«American Drive-in» what it used to be. They use great quality products, good service and a fantastic setting on Walled Lake. My wife and I love to stop in and have a hot dog, just to have a hot dog or foot long! Not too many fast food places have them. They have a full menu as well including great burgers. The root beer is great as well, I don’t know if it’s the frosted mugs or the root beer itself but whatever it is, it works!

I wish Tom’s was open all year round! They have excellent service, food, and location. The wait staff is really nice and I love coming here in the summer. Like other people have said, this isn’t the place for healthy food, but it is a great place for some root beer, fries, and a hamburger! If you haven’t been, I’d go ASAP when it opens!

Tom’s has an old school flavor in an area that lacks that a great deal. Great burgers. Cool spot on a summer day.

This is what I’m talkin’ about! Tom’s is a classic drive-in style hotdog stand. The only thing missing are rollerskates on the waitresses. Now, I’m not talking about a new trendy knockoff version… the place is older, the canopy is rusty, the pavement cracked, and the building old. But that’s what makes it great… it feels like the real thing. This used to be owned by A&W back in the day. But when they insisted that the owner stay open too late in the year, he pulled out and bought the place himself. It’s now open during the summer, closed during the winter. The place sits right on the lake and serves up some amazing Root Beer floats, foot longs, and really tasty fries. Whenever I want to feel like I’m in a ‘real’ small town with ‘real’ folks… This is where I have to have lunch.
