This place is an absolute dive. There should be a spring board in front of this joint. That being said. The regulars make us feel 100% welcome every time we go in. Great place to listen to tunes and have some laughs! A+ Also … The Taco Joint next door is second to none!

I love this place!!! It is truly a hidden Waltham gem. The bar tenders and regulars welcome you and make you feel at home. There is always a fresh supply of cheese balls, gold fish, and bar snacks. The energy here is infectious and to top it all off the bar is over a century old!

Loved this hole in the wall bar. The owner was super friendly and so were the other customers. Good people. Good juke box. I wanna go back!

I went to the Hose Trough Tavern last week and LOVEDIT! The hospitality was just great! Eddie the bartender and Patty the owner are so welcoming. You can tell they have a solid group of regulars but welcomed us with open arms when we walked in. The music was loud and everyone loved it! I have to say I may become a regular of the Hose Trough Tavern myself!

This place is awesome. I lived around the corner in my first apartment out of college, first job. Many a night did I wander into the House Trough to hang out with the guys. So named because of the fire station across the way– when the hoses are hung up to dry, they drain into the trough and the firehouse dog can belly up for a drink.

Well, if you’re looking for a classy establishment, this is not it. However, if you are looking for a quiet spot with cheap drinks and a colorful cast of characters, then the Hose Trough Tavern is your place. I stopped in on a random Saturday afternoon for a drink and was thoroughly entertained. The drinks are extremely cheap despite the bartender having a heavy hand, and the regular patrons are very personable. The bartender was attentive, talkative and helpful. The complimentary kettle corn is delicious, and the fact that the bartender hands over the remote control to customers is awesome. Definitely worth dropping in if you find yourself in the bowels of Waltham.

Two words: Hidden gem! It’s hook for purses and cheap drinks is what put this bar over the edge for me. A local bar with interesting conversation and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you are at a bar in your own home. If you are looking for a high class establishment, than this isn’t the place for you. This is a down home Waltham watering hole with an everyday clientele makes you feel like you are walking into the cast of cheers!

This is a local bar which garners to the same clientele over and over again. The prices are reasonable and the service is prompt. The Hose Trough is not the bar to go to if you are not respectful and act as a guest until you have earned the right to be accepted by the patrons who go there. It is a tight knit bar which in many ways parrallels the atmosphere from the show Cheers in the fact that the same people go there time after time. The first few times I went to the Trough I was an outsider but after gaining the acceptance fo the patrons, they would have my drink ready for me when I sat down and give me some free food cooking on the grill or in the crock,

How the hell do some places get a liquor license? I think this guy came downstairs one morning, opened a beer and said, «I wish I had a bar in my living room.» So he opened one. Seriously, the Hose Trough is a bar in a renovated living room on the ground floor of some guy’s house. I think it was just a place for the owner’s buddies to hang out — we walked in and the two patrons and bar tender looked at us like we had horns growing out of our heads. They serve warm Budweiser. There are liquor bottles behind the bar, but the labels are so old and faded you can’t quite tell what they are anymore. And I don’t think the employees wash their hands before returning to work. It was an experience, to say the least.
