Beers – yes. Very nice. Food? Omg. Huge disappointment. Only tried 2 items. The breaded calamari couldn’t have been any saltier. Totally overpriced menu, especially for what you get… don’t go for the food. Maybe beers and then eat elsewhere, with a proper designated driver!

Maybe a convenient place to get loaded, if you’re actually staying at the hotel. I suppose. My review is strictly on the bar menu/service. Keeping this review simple, very much like the bar menu. No creativity at all. Turkey club, chicken quesadilla, etc. I think you get the drift. Sat outside on the back patio. Service was decent until we finished our meal, and simply asked our server for another coke and iced tea. Server said«My shift is ending so I’ll bring you the check». Check was brought. Sat for another 30 minutes without receiving those drinks, nor did anyone else even approach our table. Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Much like the boring and flavorless chicken quesadilla, which, by the way, was served with their horrendous version of guacamole. Never seen a guacamole like that before, and hope in the lords name that I never do again. Won’t be back.

The Tap Room has been around for ages, located in the Somerset Hills hotel. There’s plenty of parking, and it’s fairly easy to find, being just down the road off edit 33 of route 78. In the last few years they have added a lot of specialty beers to the menu. My understanding is they have one of the bigger selections in New Jersey. Some nights they have live music, but the quality of the bands can be hit or miss. The staff has always been friendly and courteous. The food can also be hit or miss. I’ve had dinner in the restaurant section and it was fairly good. The bar food — well, it depends who’s in the kitchen and what you order. It doesn’t tend to draw a younger singles crowd — 3 west down the road is the place for that. But, if you want to grab a beer and listen to live music on a weekend, or have a more quiet night on a weekday, this is a good place to go.

Good selection of beers. 10 – 12 rotating taps. Bit pricey at $ 7.50 — $ 8.50 on average. Food is just ok. Not a big selection. I had the pulled pork sliders which was a mistake as I have been living in the south for too long and I am spoiled. NJBBQ just doesn’t cut it for me. Not a bad place I’d you are staying at the Somerset Hills Hotel.

Good selection in an odd location. Décor is hotel but the beer is higher end. Loved the Rasputin Stout.

5 stars for the beer list. 3 star for the food. Hotel food paired with s really great beer list. Air conditioning broken as its 81 degrees outside. Beer list was great and I wanted to enjoy the rest more but the atmosphere felt more like the Raddison near the highway in A bad 80’s movie.

We checked into the Somerset Hills Hotel last night(a Friday night), so we came here for dinner. The bar was really loud, despite the fact that there were probably only about twenty people in it.(The three TV’s and painfully loud music certainly weren’t helping.) After milling around for a few minutes because no one greeted us and we were unsure whether we could seat ourselves, we sat, and a minute or two later, the bartender himself came over with menus. So … they have this guy tending bar AND waiting tables? That seemed like a LOT to put onto one person. I wish I’d gotten his name because despite being super busy, he was totally attentive and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. The food itself was pretty good — standard bar fare with better ingredients. The cocktail menu and beer selections left a LOT to be desired(which is a shame, when you call yourself«The Tap Room»). Overall, I walked out last night thinking that this place was a solid three stars. … Then we came down in the morning for breakfast. First of all, there was a sign outside the doors that said, «Please wait to be seated.» So, we walked in and greeted the waiter, then we stood there … awkwardly … while he just stared at us. Finally, my husband asked whether we should just seat ourselves, at which point, the guy quipped something like, «Sure, if you can find a seat.»(We were the only guests there.) We sat and ordered our drinks, which the waiter brought promptly. Then he grabbed a small pitcher of milk or cream off of a tray that was just sitting there(not refrigerated) and brought it to my husband for his coffee. … Awesome. My husband ordered eggs, bacon, and toast and I ordered eggs Benedict. The waiter left and we then spent the next ten minutes swatting fruit flies away from our drinks. My husband’s eggs came out really runny, but edible. My eggs Benedict was really good … until I bit into a large chunk of eggshell, at which point, I was done. While we were eating, the waiter carried a giant recycling bin from the bar, across the restaurant, and into the kitchen, then proceeded to come out and rearrange silverware and glassware on the other tables. So, in the end, breakfast was a fiasco. I would not recommend it to anyone, even if it does come with your room here. The only reason I’m giving this place more than one star is because of dinner last night.

The Tap Room at Somerset Hills Hotel is one of the BEST places to find new and exciting craft and speciality beers in New Jersey.

The Tap Room is part of the Somerset Hills Hotel. I was staying here with a friend for another friend’s wedding so we came in here for a drink and snack. They’re getting 5 stars for their extensive beer list. For a hotel bar, they had a lot of beers that you wouldn’t even see at a stand-alone bar. They have a general list of beers and they also have a secret list that you have to ask for. We had a whiskey-cask beer(which I can’t remember the exact name of unfortunately), and it was pretty delicious. Food wise, we just had their hummus and pita chips. The hummus was olive based, and I don’t like olives, so I didn’t enjoy it at all. People ordered other food that looked pretty good, so I might have to try one of their other options if I’m there again. If you happen to be staying at the hotel or in the area, I would definitely check this place out for a beer.

The tap room has the best Jamaican jersey wings that I have had in NJ! The wings are large and you will be full off of just the wings alone. The Buffalo wings are spicy but delicious! The atmosphere is very bar like. There is another section but it is not open all the time. During midday the larger area is closed. The place is worth trying the wings alone. Watch out for the greasy residue at the end but the wings are so amazing it is bearable.

Went there for lunch and the experience was average. It was pretty empty so our service was great! I had fish and chips and it really wasn’t very good. The beer selection wasn’t bad though.

I was really too angry in my last review of this place… I need to learn to write my reviews after the experience has a chance to resonate. For a $ 13 burger you expect a perfect burger. Cooked to order… Fries hot. What I was served was a slight burger. Over cooked and fries that were soggy and cold. I understand that this place is in western rural NJ. But if you are going to charge manhattan prices you really need to excel above mediocracy and offer something worthy… Amazing beer menu though… Perhaps grab a bite elsewhere and enjoy a great brew for dessert.

Let me tell you the story about four thirsty guys on a Friday afternoon. it’s really a story about wings, we gotta have wings with beer. Only one person on duty at the Tap Room before 5pm, the bartender-ess, so we order wings and beers at the bar, and carry beer back to the table. Wings arrive almost one full round of beers later, what is that, 30 min? The wings are cold to the touch. How is that possible? I mean *cold*, not even remotely warm, like they forgot to push start on the microwave. We get the bartender-ess, she takes them back. The replacement wings arrive 10 minutes later. Warm outside, stone cold inside. Again I ask you, how is that possible? How can a kitchen mess up the REDO order, the mulligan order, in the exact same way? We fetch our bartender-ess again, she takes them away again. Third batch(I’m telling you, we wanted *wings*) arrives 10 minutes after that, this is at least 45 minutes after ordering. We expected them to be burned to a crisp. The newly arrived 5 o’clock waitress brings them to our table and is baffled by our cheers, these wings are finally hot! They are spicy! They are not burned! They are pretty good. Beers still overpriced, $ 7.50/pint of Dogfish Head Punkin ale, yummy. Total damage $ 62 for 8 beers before tip. During happy hour no less. Yeah. No scotch, no wine, just beer. Much to our bartender-ess’s credit, she does not charge us for the wings, hence an additional star, total two. Harsh? Maybe, but at these prices I expect better.

Great selection of craft beer with 11 rotating taps. Kevin, the beer manager, is a very nice guy and is strongly committed to the craft beer scene. He is constantly hosting beer-related events at the tap room and sends out a great newsletter. Another personal favorite feature: the lounge-like area adjacent to the bar that contains 3 or 4 soft and comfy couches. It’s usually hard to get a seat over there, but when you can, there’s nothing better than sipping your oak-aged yeti imperial stout while sitting in a lush, poofy seat.

Love/Hate relationship with this place. Kevin does an AMAZING job of rotating the taps in and out week by week. He gets some of the rarest beers ever at decent prices. However, the staff always appear to be too busy and stressed out to give personalized service. Occasionally there is some attitude, but that is only because they are so burnt out by the traffic of the bar. Kevin needs an extra man behind the bar on Fri/Sat nights. Also there is a nice patio area for the summer, but during the winter while indoors it gets crowded quickly. Surprisingly, on an off night can be women to mack on too. It’s rare but when it happens, it happens. Also the bad classic rock band needs to go(weekends only.) Whoever manages the sound levels does a piss poor job as they are always too loud for the bar area. The only way to salvage a conversation when they play is by moving to the business center outside the bar.

OK, the thing you need to know about this place is that it is not a stand-alone bar — it is housed within a fancy hotel. Not the end of the world, but also not what I expected when someone told me to meet them at this«beer bar.» Conveniently located off I-78, but easy to miss if you don’t know to look for a hotel. The beer selection is strong and not overwhelming. Personally I prefer 11 good beer choices over 50 taps that range from good to terrible. I immediately regretted trying the complimentary broccoli-cheddar bites. Gave them 4 stars for fighting the good fight in the beer world, but really should be 3.5 due to the awkward location.

If you consider yourself a beer snob(I do not), this very well might be the place for you. My wife and I stopped in and they had 11 beers on tap — not one domestic light, pretty much all beers that we had never heard of. To be honest, I can’t even remember the names of the beers we ordered but they were decent. My wife had to switch to the good ‘ol Coors Light but it was definitely a nice experience to try something different. We didn’t try any of the food, but they did have some pretty good bar specials. As far as the actual bar goes, it is very nice. I was pleasantly surprised by how big it was.
