This place wasn’t my favorite. It had a rustic atmosphere. I loved the lights and fire place. However it was very cold. The calamari was nothing special and they didn’t have any marinara sauce to go with it, which I thought was odd. The house salad was weak. I ordered the burger and thought it tasted pretty good, but my lettuce was wilted. My friend ordered the fish and chips and it was greasy and all breading, barely any fish. Can’t comment too much on the service since our waiter was new. Overall, not impressed at all.

Came here for dinner and I was truly disappointed We started out with calamari and it was very greasy and not flavorful. Seemed like it was frozen. I got the fish and chips and it was all FRIED breading and very little fish. It was not appetizing at all. We also tried the bread pudding which was old and not tasty. Atmosphere and service were ok which is why i’m giving it two stars.

Hopefully when your order arrives it will be correct because they sure as hell won’t do a goddamn thing to fix it aside from argue with you about whether or not you explicitly told them about your food allergy. This place sucks, but it’s slim pickings in Warrenton so I doubt a bad review will be an impetus for improvement.

Give this place a pass. The only thing traditional about this Irish Pub is the Red Breast Irish Whiskey behind the bar. Tacky décor, cheap bar back of wood shelves and everything painted black, unimpressive wait staff that are more interested in playing darts than serving customers. The sandwich I ordered was terrible and the 10 or so soggy, over salted fries served beside it with a cup of mayo(??) and a cup of ketchup were disgusting. There are far better places to eat in Warrenton or on your way to Shenandoa. Don’t waste your time.

Awesome vibe and good food. The corned beef boxty was particularly good, as well as the pumpkin bread pudding! To die for. Live Irish music on Sunday nights really made this place cozy and comfortable.

Overall, below average food and a below average place. Three stars is being rather generous considering the dry salmon I received and the peas that almost certainly were right out of the bag. The only saving grace to this place was a very nice waiter. We went here on a Saturday night when you think the place would be remotely full, but the whole inside was empty and we were one of three table sitting outside. It is obvious that after 9 o’clock the place turns into a local hang out for men and the vibe completely changes. I am assuming this from the late night crowd I saw rolling in, A cast of very interesting characters and the corn hole game that was conveniently set up outside. Maybe this is how they get away with making such bad food by catering to their late-night local clientele. Who knows, all I know is I will not be returning here.

McMahon’s is the place where everyone knows your name — your«local» as they say in Ireland. Waiters and bartenders, many directly from Ireland, add to the friendly, welcoming and authentic feel. You can’t beat the Boxties, the Gaelic Steak, the mushroom ravioli or the Traditional Irish breakfast. They have a new steak tip appetizer that is fabulous and filling — I often get it as an entrée’ paired with the Cobbler Soup(i.e. Potato leek soup). Smoking and non-smoking sections with a great patio make it the place for all demographics, and when the neighborhood musicians come in to play just for the fun of it, everyone feels Irish. It’s my favorite place in Warrenton — if you check it out, say hi to Sligo native and bartender Daniel for me.

The ambulance is spot on. The building is very unique and the food is good. The service wasn’t excellent but definitely worth a 4 stars. I can only recommend the steak and mushroom stew for it is the only thing I’ve had there. It was very good Nice dart room too!

I like to judge a restaurant by its Reuben sandwich and McMahon’s totally failed the test. Worst part was the gristly corned beef cut so thick that I had to grip it with my hand and rip with my teeth. Rest of the disappointing sandwich was a gloppy mess of indistinguishable components. Having looked at the menu online ahead of time, I was also eager to have the«Irish cut» potatoes. Yuck. Nowhere near the thick slices in the photos, these were thin, greasy tiny overcooked chunks that no fast-food place would dare serve. The advertised Happy Hour only applied on cheap, tasteless American commercial bottled brews along with house wines and rail drinks. Quality Irish drafts were in the $ 6+ neighborhood. Sad to say, McMahon’s you’ve seen the last of my green…

Great atmosphere, awesome food, and friendly staff, and Guinness! What more can you ask for? Try the boxty, trust me…

Not all that motivated to give it another try. Only one server in the whole place on a Tuesday night. Food was only so so. Looks like Robert Irvine could help this place out.

I like this place. I used come here more often a few years ago. I went back very recently. I have not had a bad experience. I’ve lived in the UK and I’m a fan of British and Irish food. I don’t think this place is a 5 in my opinion but I do think it is a 4. It is a really gorgeous building that has a great atmosphere. It gives you the feeling of an Irish/Virginian hunting lodge. You could say that it has character. The building is huge. I will say that the service was a little bit disjointed. We had to walk through the restaurant to find the hostess but once we did, she was very helpful. I thought the service was fine once we were greeted. I liked the selection of beers and cider on tap. I’m a fan of Magner’s which they have. To me that is a sign that you are in a good Irish place. The Irish bread starter was ok. Also, we got a discount for a bread and butter pudding dessert that was a little bland but we left satisfied. We both definitely liked our main courses. I had the Thatch Cottage Pie which I liked though it is basically a chicken pot pie with a side of vegetables and mashed potatoes. A true cottage pie should have beef but I rarely see cottage pies labeled correctly in the US. Anyway, I liked it and ate it happily. The veggies were a nice and healthy mix too. I enjoyed eating them and I can be picky about veggies. My dining companion had the McDonagh Fish and Chips after asking for the waitress’s recommendation and was very pleased. He was happy because they provided him with malt vinegar when asked. Basically it hit the spot for Irish fare. I’d come here again when I am around Warrenton.

Took my parents and kids here yesterday for a late lunch. I ordered the Thatch Cottage Pie. So good. I’ve gotten that on 2 of my 3 visits. Waitress was right on point. No sooner had we sipped our drinks close to the bottom, there she was refilling. No problem splitting a Fish and Chips between two kids.(that’s a plus) as the food is plentiful per plate. When my mother ordered the key lime pie, it was almost tossed onto the table in front of her with 3 spoons(?) but, we let it go. Perhaps she was anxious to start her«to be» busy night and needed us to clear out. Anyway. All the food was good and we enjoyed ourselves.

Great spot to hang out and have a few drinks. They have two separate bars, outdoor seating, and cornhole in the parking lot. The owners/staff are very friendly. Service is usually on point, and your drink usually doesn’t run dry. As far as the food goes, I usually get appetizers. Haven’t had any that weren’t good. My one complaint(and that of our entire party that evening) was their corned beef and cabbage. It was terrible. I had really high hopes, as this is an Irish Restaurant. For that reason, I have not been back to the restaurant portion of the place.

Me and the wife love this place. Food is hearty but the atmosphere is the best. Really friendly staff. Great beer selections and we love trivia night on Wednesdays. This is our favorite date night spot. Food is good. Sometimes bland but I love the Shepards pie

Everything I’ve ever had here has been wonderful. Great ambiance. Perfect place for a girls’ night out or a date. I highly recommend going on Sunday nights and listening to the traditional Irish Seisiun.

I love McMahon’s, but you have to understand that there are two totally separate dining experiences to be had here. There is a dining room with servers and traditional Irish décor with specialties on the menu such as Boxty(which is rare to find around here) and of course Guinness Stew and CB&C. But there is also a back area that is a bar only, with both smoking and non smoking options. This area is loud and chaotic and great for watching a game or coming for Happy Hour. I’ve had most of the items on the menu, — well, the real Irish options. I love the Corned Beef Boxty, which is basically a potato cake fried crispy and topped with corned beef. I also love the cabbage at McMahon’s, cabbage is a fickle fickle thing — one false move and its goo in salt water and nobody likes that. The lattice pie is also quite yummy — but enjoy that one in the colder months, it’s a little heavy. The service and ambiance — the service in the dining room has always left a bit to be desired in my opinion. I am not sure where they wander off to but I’ve become accustomed to waiting for them if I chose to sit in the dining room, which I do rarely. The bar area is awesome. I love the stone and dark colors. It really reminds me of a true Ireland pub. The bar tenders are generally pretty attentive and like to chit chat with the customers. I don’t work in the Gainesville area anymore but when I did this was always my go to for happy hour!

Great bar. Fun, laid back ambience. Smoking and non-smoking bars are available as well as the regular restaurant areas. The curry chips are top notch and I would also highly recommend the fish and chips and boxty from the menu. The bartenders make excellent drinks, the beer selection is good, and they often have authentic Irish entertainment.

Our family had reservations for 5:00 pm on 3⁄17 St. Patricks Day. We were looking forward to good food, and happy Irish atmosphere. When we arrived on time, we had to wait 30 minutes for our table — that was dirty and not set. The good part of the evening was that there was live Irish music and a joyful crowd. Loud, yes — but that’s expected on this day. The bad far out weighed the good. We were surprised to find that dinner was $ 30 a person — but that was okay because we believed we’d be getting good food. Wrong. The food was awful. Corned beef was undercooked and tough, the mashed potatoes were dry and stiff, green beans flavorless, shepherds pie only mediocre, and the chicken puff pastry dish — the pastry must have been baked days in advance. We got mass produced cafeteria type food for $ 30.00 per person not including coffee. Oh yes — we had a sliver of cheese cake(included) was dry and crumbling. All I can say is BUYERBEWARE!

I’m not really a fan of this place. My mom and I went here for dinner a couple weeks ago when we were in the area. The outside of the building is really cute, but the inside isn’t so much. The dining area next to the bar has a lot of open, unused space, which is a little awkward. But that would have all been ok if the rest of it hadn’t been so awkward, as well. I think they’re used to getting mostly locals in there, who know the menu already, because we hadn’t been seated more than 30 seconds before the waitress came and asked what we wanted. I hadn’t even opened my menu yet. We had a Specialicious coupon for $ 20 worth of «Irish Fare.» So I got the steak and cheese sandwich and my mom got the burger(cooked medium). They brought us some Irish brown bread to snack on before the food came, which was good. The food came fairly quickly, but when my mom bit into her burger, it was nearly raw inside. She cut it in half to see if it was like that all the way through, and it was. She felt bad saying anything to the waitress about it, and it would have been ok if it had been medium-rare, but this thing was definitely very rare. So she sent it back. It took forever for the new burger to come back, and then it wasn’t even a new burger. The cooks somehow put it back together after it had been cut in half, but we knew it was the same burger because it still had the bite taken out of one side! Then, I’d barely finished eating before the waitress swooped in and took my plate away. My mom was still eating and had to guard her plate from being taken, too. The food was fine, but nothing special. Then came time to pay the bill. We gave the waitress the coupon and she didn’t know what to do with it, so she went and asked the manager. We had paid $ 10 for what was essentially a $ 20 gift certificate to the restaurant — the same way all Groupons, Living Social deals, etc. work. The manager instructed the waitress to take $ 10 off our approx. $ 20 check. No. That’s not how it works. We had to sit there and argue with the manager to make him understand how the deal worked! He kept asking us how he was supposed to make any money if that’s how it worked. Um, sorry, but isn’t that your problem, not ours? Finally, he adjusted the check to reflect the deal, but acted like he was doing us a favor. I almost felt bad for him — he really was a nice guy, but just didn’t understand what he’d signed up for with Specialicious. So, I’m not in the Warrenton area often, but even if I’m there again, I won’t be back to this place.
