I had the pleasure of getting catered from Café Mayo for a conference last year, and everyone WOWed at the sandwiches because they were just so delicious! So we didn’t hesitate to contact Mayo again this year for the same event, and our experience was just as great. Café Mayo is the way to go if you are in Georgetown for a quick bite but seriously catering from them will make you and your guests so happy and full. Thanks George and his team!

With each bite of the Cubano, I died, went to heaven and came back for the next. The people working there are also really nice. The shop is a cozy little place with very little seating, so be prepared if you go during rush hour(i.e more than 5 people).

Really good Peruvian chicken. Hard to tell what they sold from the name, they should really advertise that for sure. It would definitely attract the Peruvian chicken lovers. Good customer service. I was there during the lunch rush and there were only two people working at the time. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!

This place is great! I got the fish tacos and they were perfectly crispy and fresh. No gross fishy taste or smell for my food or the entire café. Also had the yuca fries and they were very tasty as well! Would definitely recommend if you want a good, inexpensive lunch in Georgetown. Their taco lunch special is 2 tacos and a soda for $ 6.99. Their sides are $ 1.99 and I chose yuca fries!

The Cuban sandwich is just… WOW. I also recommend the yucca fries as a side. Don’t let the smallness of this locally owned buisness turn you away. This place has amazing food and is priced so well. Nice spot to grab lunch and sit outside.

Don’t let the diminutive size of this Georgetown gem deceive you. George served up the best Cubano sandwich I’ve had yet in DC. Add an order of yucca fries that are delicious and unique in that they aren’t simply fried yucca, but closer to the consistency and size of a traditional French fry. Not in the mood for pork that’s been marinated for three days, then slow roasted to perfection? No problem. Try the fish tacos. The lightly battered portions are complimented by the usual suspects: tomato, cabbage, a squeeze of lime, if you like, and a drizzle of the same sauce that’s served with the yucca fries. Thanks, George. I’ll definitely see you again. Highly recommended.

Always quick and relatively cheap, Café Mayo has delicious sandwiches and slow-cooked chicken. The staff are friendly and helpful. Drink selection could be improved, but isn’t bad.

I used the Unilocal deal($ 10 for $ 14 voucher) and got the ¼ rotisserie chicken with one side and a drink. I got the fries at the recommendation of the guy at the counter. The price was great for the quality of food. I was hungry and the meal served its purpose. It wasn’t the best Peruvian chicken I’ve had but it wasn’t bad either. The fries were crispy and delicious. The place is very small inside with a few stools for sitting. There are a few outdoor tables.

Ordered a Cubano, enjoyed it. Price is reasonable and staff was very friendly. Some folks commented that it wasn’t authentic due to the bread but the pita bread was light and fluffy and worked well for the sandwich. Will be back to try other items on the menu.

I was just looking for a quick lunch in the area and found this place on Unilocal. The place was, to my surprise, very tiny, more like a place to do take-out. The guy working there suggested Sandwich Cubano but I already spotted Banh Mi so I just had to try it. I got a Banh Mi with grilled pork and it was decent. The pork was really good. I would have given them 5 star but the was still room for improvement for the veggies. There was only cucumber and cilantro in my Banh Mi.

Good, strong Vietnamese iced coffee, banh mi sandwiches, and Peruvian chicken. Everything is good… nice change for Gtown area lunch eats. I’d skip the empanadas.

AMAZING Peruvian roasted chicken and at an incredible price! I wish I lived in Georgetown so I could eat at Café Mayo weekly. I love Peruvian roasted chicken and this was some of the best I have ever had. Grab a ¼ chicken meal with rice and beans and be prepared for Heaven. It’s right off the main shopping strip and it is too good to pass up.

I was pleasantly surprised! I had high expectations given the reviews, but I obviously didn’t look closely enough at them because when I got there I was taken aback by how tiny and sort of dingy it was. Nothing on the menu sounded 100% appealing to me, so I went with the cajun chicken sandwich. My friend and I were able to get two of the few seats inside(and on a Saturday afternoon, which surprised me) and ended up waiting for longer than I expected for our food. But once I got my sandwich, it really was delicious! It was a panini style sandwich with shredded chicken, cheese, cajun mayo, and red onions, and it had a great flavor. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it!

I had such high expectations from the reviews and ratings and I expected to be amazed. They had a Unilocal deal for 3 specialty sandwiches for $ 19.99, not a bad deal since each one cost about $ 9. The employee recommended their most popular sandwiches, Cubano, 5 Spice Brisket and the Pastramikraut. They were good but they didn’t leave me wanting more either. The 5 spice brisket reminded me a little bit of a bahn mi sandwich but not as tasty in my opinion. The meat portion wasn’t too generous either. This really is more of a take out place. They have a tiny counter that can maybe fit 3 people around the window but it’s a little awkward eating there since the chairs are too short for the counter, standing works better. They do have 2 small tables set up outside for when the weather is warmer.

Cute little place off the main drag in Georgetown. Key word here is little! You can barely turn around inside the shop without knocking something or someone over. But it’s charming. 3 or so window seats inside, 2 tables with chairs outside. It was perfect for my purposes: wanting to be outdoors on a gorgeous day & people watch, but without being at some hot-spot on Wisconsin. The food: Got the grilled cheese BLT and took their suggestion of roasted garlic mayo. There’s some poor execution going on here though. Weird grape decorations on a low sill in the window, which is also very dirty. Cleaning products out in the open. The cook had his laptop set-up in the window, taking over one of the precious seating options. GIANT drink cooler. You don’t need such a huge cooler for a place of this size. Same for the chip rack, if you could even call it that. Maybe 4 options? Not stocked either. And why do you need a tv in the window? It was facing out & I’m not even sure what was on it… The menu — printed on white paper. It works — but why not put a sandwich board up? Or at least keep a couple of colorful laminated copies around… Sandwich was good & I wish them luck, but hopefully they change a few things!

Alright, so ive tried some good authentic Cuban food in Miami anytime i go down there. This place so far is the only place i would go for some good Cuban coffee or a Cubano sandwich. I actually been craving Cuban coffee for awhile and pretty much finished my drink in a couple minutes. So i decided to finish my fiancees coffee also. Don’t judge me hahaha. Me and my fiancée also had the grilled cheese BLT. That sandwich was stacked on bacon. Who doesnt like bacon? The Cubano sandwich pork was on point. Supposedly the pork is marinated for hours before cooking. Dennis was helpful and made everything right. Cool small place for coffee. They have other sandwiches i might want to try when i stop by again. I will go again for some coffee. Maybe even try the Cuban Café colada. Ill try to order a bigger Cuban Coffee.

LOVE the smoothies and milkshakes and everything!!! The Vietnamese ice coffee shake was delicious. My friend got the avocado smoothie and that was also surprisingly good. Staff was very friend and patient. The space is small, but it’s easy enough to grab the items to go and plop down somewhere nearby and picnic(though don’t worry, there are a few seats around in the restaurant if that’s not yo thing.) Will definitely come back for the sandwiches!

Final update: The third time is indeed a charm as the saying goes… I grew a brain and called ahead to confirm Café Mayo was open. I had the Cubano. The house made shredded pork roast was tender, juicy and well seasoned like none I’ve had before, and there was plenty of it. The ham and cheese were fused together as they should be while lovingly caressed by the sublime house made mustard. And, the homemade pickles add that touch to the Cubano that the store bought ones just can’t. The grilled pita bread was a novel twist on the Cubano’s typical baguette, but I liked it. This is a strong sandwich, and I highly recommend it. If you’re a traditionalist, ask for the baguette instead. My companion had the Brisket and Cheese on baguette. The brisket(like the pork roast) is marinated and cooked in house and was… well, I’m from Texas. We know brisket. This was brisket from heaven. Enough said. The homemade watermelon lemonade was refreshing, as was the raspberry lemonade. I recommend them over a soda any day. Both gentlemen who were working at Café Mayo appeared to be the proprietors. These guys were professional, solicitous and genuinely passionate about the food they cook themselves and serve their guests. They were proud of their food, and it showed. I’m so glad I grew a brain and tried Café Mayo one last time before I left D.C. If you want a standard with a little twist, get the Cubano. The Brisket and Cheese was delicious and is also highly recommended.

Great Prices and Great Food! These guys are poised to take over the lunch game in Georgetown. Their food is well made and they take the time to cook all their meats. They have an array of mayos that they spread on different sandwiches. They also have Banh Mi offerings which show a diversity not easily found in the sandwich game. That also means they have a fantastic baguette. Just thinking about it makes me want more. First timers go straight for the Cubano. Its a home run. Other winners are the Tuna Salad, Cajun Chicken, Brisket steak and cheese, and the Turkey Bacon. To be honest this is every sandwich I’ve tried haha. I made a pledge to try every one and I’m well on my way. They also have milkshake and coffee. Try the Cuban coffee! Bottom line: These guys are putting effort in to their food and it shows. Go there!
